  1. I was rather disappointed in the time allotted for celiac disease. It was maybe a whole 5 mins, if that, and they spend a good share of that time slopping beer all over. I do not think that people actually could have gotten any good advice from that tiny time frame. I was very disappointed and remembered very quickly why I have never liked The View.
  2. I have never been glutened by a kiss, yet Kev is always very protective of me and he will immediately tell me if he has eaten any gluten. Kev and I found each other 5 1/2 yrs ago. We met in August and I had gone gluten-free in July. So, we have learned this together and he has always been very observant while on the road too. He will call and say, I just...
  3. It truly depends on the hospital and the staff. My sister is a dietician for a small hospital in Michigan and she has trained her entire staff to cook for a celiac. Her hospital is affiliated with Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, which is one of the best hospitals in the US and they have asked her to come teach their staff. So, I will say, it is getting out...
  4. I was wrong, I'm sorry.
  5. My generic is from Inwood Labs, a division of Forester and yes, it is gluten free. Ask the pharmacist to give you the 800# for their generic company and call yourself. That's is what I did.
  6. I'm sorry Geoff, I guess I misunderstood you. I feel celiac's is a lifestyle change for me. I had to change so much in the last 5+ years. I didn't mean to be cruel. I'm sorry!
  7. Oh yeah, Me thinks you be a normal celiac, if there is such a thing!!!!!
  8. Wow, I keep telling my son he should be gluten free. He asked his doctor to test him for celiac disease and that doctor told him, "I do not think it is necessary to test you now for that!" Joe is the 2nd son I have that was told that same thing by a doctor, and they wonder why we lose faith in them!!! Joe is 25 years old now and he was this child, My...
  9. But living in fear of buffets, croutons, and hidden poisons in my food is not a lifestyle choice.Yes Geoff, it is a lifestyle choice, whether you want to believe it or not. You choose to not eat gluten--some people will continue to eat it, even if it makes them sick. No one is forcing you to be gluten free. Yes, you have a disease and yes, it requires...
  10. Orrington Farms has very good bases.
  11. I too tried the Eat Right for Your Blood Type Diet and only ended up getting ill. I too, am a type A and had already given up gluten when I tried the diet. It says that type A's should not have dairy, so I gave up my dairy and drank 8th Continent Soy Milk and soon became very ill. This is when I found out I was intolerant of soy. I too, do not eat pork...
  12. Yes Autumn, B12 comes in pill and liquid. There are some that dissolve under your tongue and some you swallow.
  13. The ingredients look fine to me, I do not think there is gluten in the chocolate soymilk, yet you should always call the company and verify for yourself when in question.
  14. Well, let me see if I can stump any of you. I am sure there is some Irish on my mom's side and yes, she is a true redhead. My sister and I both have red highlights in our hair, yet, our mom is not celiac, our father is and he was a brunette in his day, now mostly gray. My dad's family is English and German. Blows that theory huh!!!!! By the way...
  15. Barb, only you can decide to do the right thing. We can't force you. If you were diagnosed with celiacs and the doctor did an actual test to diagnose you, then I would not doubt him/her. If you know you feel better when gluten-free, then that should be all the proof you need. Maybe you do not have symptoms when glutened, some people don't. Being celiac...
  16. Probably not Judy, but your eyes may be allergic to the cream and you may have gotten some in your eye accidentally. I work for an optomitrist and from my experience working with him, a person should always go to their eye doctor for any problem with their eyes. A family doctor does not have the training or the equipment to be sure what is going on with...
  17. I'm sorry It's true, there are those of you out there who like Lundberg or they wouldn't still be on the market. Kev says that maybe the ones I bought are outdated. We can't find an expiration date anywhere on the package. They taste like very stale, tough popcorn, so, maybe he is correct, they are old. Yet, I am the type that takes a long time to give...
  18. I was very impressed with the article and was hoping others would benefit too. You are welcome!!!
  19. This is the best paper I have ever read with definitions of celiac disease. He tells why some heal so well, why some do not. The different degrees of celiacs, why some are so easy to diagnose and why some are not. I printed the paper--be aware, it is 14 pages long and the tiniest print. I am sending the paper to my parents. My dad has had stomach...
  20. Autumn--you are correct. If people think it is rough going gluten free, they should try eliminating the things that contain corn, soy, and rice also. Gluten free was easy for me, especially after needing to go soy and corn free and very limited on rice. It's never easy, is it?
  21. It's funny how you can be celiac for years and years and then still hear something that surprises you. I have always had that same problem with my feet--they hurt no matter what I put on them. Too much support hurts, too soft hurts, too hard hurts, too much walking hurts. I love walking on the beach barefoot, yet getting to the hard sand through the soft...
  22. Well, I have eaten Quaker Caramel Corn cakes since I went gluten-free over 5 years ago, daily. I have never been glutened. The only reason I eat them is to have something to put my peanut butter on. Caramel Corn is the only one I like--I tried the white cheddar ones and threw them out--ewwwwwwww. Thes Lundberg ones are no where near the standards of Quaker...
  23. Being a naysayer is never a good thing, yet I must say this. Not everything can be fixed by going gluten free. Doctors do not really know how much anyone will heal. Some problems may not go away. Some problems may have been caused by being celiac, but once they catch hold of us, they take on a life separate from celiacs. My neuropathy has never gotten...
  24. I have read so many times that Quaker Ricecakes cant be trusted. I have eaten them now for over 5 years and not once been glutened. BUT, because everyone is saying not to trust Quaker, I decided to try another. I bought Lundberg and they are discusting ! I will go without before eating these. Any other good ones out there????
  25. Good job Joel--I am a member of the Suffolk County Celiac Group too. This vendor fair will be a lot more work then the last one.
