  1. Hi Brian, I see no one has known the answer as of yet. I do remember reading about charcoal too and for the life of me, I do not understand why gluten needs to be in something we burn. I do remember also that there is charcoal which does not contain gluten. A simple answer to this one is getting a gas grill. As for the water filter, I honestly never...
  2. I just heard the other day how much damage getting glutened does to us in a single time, yet for the life of me, I can't remember what I read or where. Gluten is poison to us, so yes, as far as I am concerned, yes, you are doing damage by cheating. In over 5 yrs, I have never cheated, never even really wanted too. Yes, I miss so many old favorites and...
  3. Tapioca starch can be used too, instead of cornstarch.
  4. Being no one knows very much about the why's and why nots of celiacs, I know mine was always there at some extent. My mother used to tell me that as a very young child she had to extra clothes for me because I would get sick while traveling. I do not have a great memory of childhood like my sister does, although I do remember her eating stones and dirt...
  5. And then there are some of us who have never had a problem with QUaker Rice Cakes. I have eaten Quaker Caramel Rice Cakes for 5 yrs now and never once was I glutened. So, the decision is yours.
  6. I always use Garnier Nutrisse, I always use the same color each time. My hair is waist length and very thick and since going gluten-free 5 yrs ago, it grows so fast. So I get the same brand, the same color, do the roots and blend it in as much as I can, so as not to damage my hair. I have not had a problem with this brand in 5 yrs.
  7. I think your test will be ok, you havent gone completely gluten free, so the damage is still there. Yes, your symptoms are consistant with gluten intolerance. Not everyone has diarrhea, not everyone is constipated, some people do not even know they are sick. Do the test and then go gluten free, totally, no cheating and see what happens.
  8. Cute, Dixie Sweet Cheeks!
  9. Covsooze, a B12 level of 387 is not high at all, it is very low in the range of B12 and some people need a lot more B12 then others. With celiacs, many times we do not utilize our vitamins the way non-celiacs do. Some doctors do not know enough about B12 to give good advice, be honest, a doctor can't know everything! The fact that your GP isn't concerned...
  10. Peta and Michelle--for starters, you need to stop thinking of it as a diet and begin thinking of it as a lifestyle. Until family and friends understand, sometimes it is easier for them to understand allergic as opposed to intolerant. People know that an allergic reaction can kill you, they do not understand that an intolerance can make you wish you were...
  11. Raynauds is different, I have both. Raynauds generally deals with the cold, your fingers or toes get very cold, then change colors, mine get white on the tips, then they start to burn--you must be careful to keep your feet warm enough and gloves n your hands when in the cold.....Now numbness in your feet and/or tingling, burning--that may be neuropathy....
  12. Besides, a huge factor here is that your body in one months time has not had enough time to rid itself of all gluten--it takes time, some people get relieve right away in some form, yet still do have episodes for some time. Might there be cross contamination issues? Maybe a vitamin or medicine you are taking that contains gluten, shampoo, lotion, etc. ...
  13. Are there any???? My sweetie is positive I have a thyroid problem and he just may be right. I am going to go and have it checked, yet first, I would like to know if any of you have a good recommendation for meds that are gluten-free, soy, corn, and rice free. I truthfully do not trust the doctors to know and sometimes the pharmacist is just as bad. I...
  14. Peanut butter!!!!!!!!!
  15. He has to get to the point where he understands that he MUST be careful around you. The man I see, will come over during my lunch and if he has stopped for a sandwich, he warns me as he walks in, he will say, "I just ate a sammich, don't kiss my mouth!" I love how Long Islanders say sandwich . Before I had all of these other intolerances, he would buy...
  16. Nicole--I still would not rule out another intolerance--that's what happens to me. Constipation does not happen over night. Now that he has finally gone, now the cycle will start over--that's what constipation does. It has to build up in your system, then you have the pain. I would try eliminating one group of foods and see what happens. Only my opinion...
  17. I too break out in hives if wheat is on my skin. It is a well known fact that inhaling gluten can make us sick--although, they aren't sure if in inhaling it, it may be that the person is a mouth breather and the air particles are getting in their mouth and swallowed--I do know that most gluten intolerant can not work in bakeries. Ursula, as I was reading...
  18. Nic--have you thought about the fact that he may also be intolerant of something else, like corn, soy, dairy, rice, nightshades. Gluten itself gives me diarrhea, yet corn, soy, rice cause constipation for me--some nightshades cause constipation, yet tomatoes give me diarrhea. Also, check everything, shampoo, soaps, lotions, anything that his hand touches...
  19. I agree--try gluten free, give it a long enough chance too--none of us truly know how long it will take for any one person to heal inside. Do not stop the B12 either, I am sure B12 will be something you will need to continue forever. I have never taken the shots for B12, yet daily I take 2400 mcg of B12 daily. Because of undiagnosed celiacs, I now have...
  20. I have never been glutened by a kiss and only worried about it once. On my birthday this year, my sweetie had given my a gift bag full of goodies and I was so happy, I turned and planted a big ole kiss right on his lips. He got this look of shock on his face and that's when I remembered he was eating corn chips and a sandwich. He is always wiping his mouth...
  21. Awwwwwww Mandy, I know just what you mean. We gluten intolerant people do mourn the loss of gluten. Even though we know it's for our health and feeling better is the best, we still miss so much. This time of year with all the food commercials on tv, people at work talking about this recipe and that, memories of family traditions--it's tough. There is...
  22. My sister is celiac and a dietician. She discussed wheat grass with a supplier and he could not give her a definite answer--she says to avoid it at all costs because the jury is still out on this one.
  23. Abi--my advice is to stay away from those cereals. Barley malt is bad and you do not want wheat starch either. This statement really bothers me: Kellogg's® Corn Pops and Kellogg's® Rice Krispies might be suitable, depending on gluten sensitivity. Depending on gluten sensitivity????????? If you have a gluten sensitivity, then you absolutely do not w...
  24. No sweetie--you go for those strong abs, that's wonderful. I think each time you get glutened may just be a stronger reaction, or maybe the type of gluten you ate caused a stronger reaction. I hardly react to barley, yet wheat makes me sick for days. Keep working out--that's wonderful.
