ARCHIVED Dilation Drops Used For Eye Exam- Are The gluten-free?
darlindeb25 replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another snap judgment call--I think the dilation drops are gluten-free, but it does matter Richard---some of us have contact problems with gluten, maybe you don't. At any rate hun--find a new doctor. I work for an optomitrist and you would never get treatment like that here. He is a wonderful doctor and if he can't help you, he sends you to the best in... -
ARCHIVED Going To A Wedding, Is This Tacky?
darlindeb25 replied to skoki-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Deb, I don't disagree with you. I too wish the world was more accomodating to all disorders, but sadly that is not how it is--yet. Maybe someday. The thing about weddings is--it isn't about us! It's about the bride and groom and we go to help them celebrate their new life together. I feel it's petty if we don't go just because there may not be something... -
ARCHIVED Going To A Wedding, Is This Tacky?
darlindeb25 replied to skoki-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
All good suggestions. I believe it is the bride and grooms day and if there isn't anything there that I can have, then oh well. I am not going for the food, I am going to help them celebrate their day. You could sign the card as you said you would and maybe also call the Highwood Room and tell them you are attending the .......... wedding reception and... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Just Have Celiac Only?
darlindeb25 replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was 46 when I figured out I was celiac--been sick for over 20 years by then, that I remember. I have Raynauds Syndrome, intolerances to almost all grains, starches, and tomatoes. The worst is my peripheral neuropathy. Sometimes I think the celiacs is the easy part now. Deb -
ARCHIVED How Bad Is Wheat In Shampoo?
darlindeb25 replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have always used Pantene and I just read the ingredients on the bottle, no wheat. Maybe the newer products have wheat, the Pantene for different colors of hair, for brunettes, redheads, or blondes--I stick to my old favorites. I do not find any wheat in the ingredients. Fruitis is made by the makers of Pantene. Now Tressemme has wheat in it and I do... -
ARCHIVED Those Of You That Can't Eat Rice
darlindeb25 replied to BamBam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think I should go totally grain free too, but then I think enough has been taken away and rice doesn't make me feel too terrible. Then I think about what gluten does to us and that maybe rice is doing damage even if I don't feel as bad when eating it--I JUST DONT KNOW ANYMORE!!!!! Brown rice made me pretty ill, white rice seems ok most of the time, but... -
ARCHIVED Ill Effects From Eating Pork? Beef?
darlindeb25 replied to Caryl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In my honest opinion, it doesn't matter what the cow ate before we serve it up. Myself, I can't digest beef and pork--red meat is much harder to digest then say chicken or fish. My mom always said that red meat rots in your tummy. I just know it does bother me. If it does matter what the cow is fed, then feeding it all corn would make me very ill, I am... -
ARCHIVED More Oat Questions
darlindeb25 replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I attended a Suffolk County Celiac Support Group meeting where Dr. Peter Green was the guest speaker--he did mention that oats are safe, but when he asked how many in the room actually would eat oats--out of a group of 200, 1 person raised his hand----so, I say no, they made me sick before going gluten-free anyways. Deb -
ARCHIVED Is There A Difference Between Intolerance And Celiac
darlindeb25 replied to mylady4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Full blown celiacs disease is the worse case scenario--it starts as a gluten insensitivity, then grows to an intolerance and if left untreated, becomes full blown celiacs disease. True, there is a difference between intolerances and allergies. BUT, they are both an autoimmune reaction, just 2 different types of reactions. A Celiacs autoimmune systems... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Change My Display Name
darlindeb25 replied to gluten-free RD's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
To my knowledge, the only way to change your name is to join under another name--I don't believe there is any way to change it otherwise. Deb -
ARCHIVED I Do Not Know What To Do
darlindeb25 replied to mylady4's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nicole--are you still eating wheat??? You don't really say that you are gluten free. If you are eating wheat still, that is the problem. I figured out now that when I also started having problems with soy and corn, then I gained again. I am struggling with that wieght now. I do want to say--losing 75# was wonderful and only gaining 7 back isn't so bad... -
I went to a doctor here on Long Island and was telling him I have celiacs disease and he says, "My son has celiacs too, he can't have barley!" I truly hope he does know the difference. I did tell him that in addition to the regular glutens we can't have that I also can't have soy, corn, and tomatoes. I hope he was listening to me, I have the feeling he...

darlindeb25 replied to mdono's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED How Long Can Getting "glutened" Last?
darlindeb25 replied to chanistuff's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know about kidney pain. It seems you have been to the doctor and they aren't finding anything. If I get glutened, I am sick for days. The last time I was sick for an extened amount of time it was from corn/soy and it took me a good 4 weeks to feel a little better. After being gluten-free for sometime, each time you are glutened feels worse. I... -
ARCHIVED Dreams About Food - A New Thing
darlindeb25 replied to DingoGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I dreamed one night that I ate a hot dog, bun and all--I loved hot dogs from a fire pit. I woke up literally in tears--the dream was so vivid and I just knew I was going to be so sick!!! Deb -
I can handle soy letichin and a tiny amount of cornstarch--strange, last I knew I could eat fresh corn too, but I can't tolerate corn flour, chips, anything like that. I also can't eat tomatoes in any form. I eat chicken breast, cod, tuna (only bumble bee tuna in the foil pouches, no soy), sometimes rice, and veggies. I do have a very boring diet, but...

ARCHIVED I Love I Love I Love...
darlindeb25 replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love the feel of the ocean washing over my feet. I love the scent of a baby's breath. I love that first smile of a grandchild, when you know they know you. I love to hear a baby giggle. I love puppies. I love to see a family of geese at the park. I love to hear the cardinal singing to me at 4am. I love that I have 10,000 angels watching... -
ARCHIVED I Hate I Hate I Hate...
darlindeb25 replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Barbara--Go back to the I LOVE, I LOVE, I LOVE thread and do your thing. When you read things that upset you, move on and put them out of your mind--when you read things that make you smile and feel happy--hold them in your heart and run with them. I want to read your thoughts on what you love--please! Deb -
ARCHIVED Tuna And Syrup
darlindeb25 replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know the why's of it all, but Bumble Bee tuna packed in the foil pouches does not contain soy--I do eat it, but it is the only one I touch. Deb -
ARCHIVED How Do You Cope With Multiple Food Intolerances?
darlindeb25 replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It's not easy being the celiac who can't tolerate other things too. I am beginning to think that there are different levels of celiac disease too. Maybe the general group of celiacs only have to give up wheat, rye, and barley. Oats always made me ill, before I knew about gluten--I now cant have corn or soy flour--I can still handle margarine as long as... -
ARCHIVED I Hate I Hate I Hate...
darlindeb25 replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are very few things I hate--it's a word I was not allowed to use while growing up--seems like a naughty word to me even now as an adult! So--I dislike obnoxious people. I dislike the person who sits behind you at a red light and blows their horn! I dislike when people lie to me! I "HATE" the fact that I can't find a decent noodle... -
ARCHIVED I Love I Love I Love...
darlindeb25 replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I LOVE the fact that I am not sick everyday! I LOVE my 5 kids and the 6 grandchildren they gave me! I LOVE me sweetheart and the fact that he is always watching out for gluten free treats for me. I LOVE that he will try any gluten free thing I bake and actually seems to like them. I LOVE the fact that the ocean is my playground now... -
ARCHIVED Bath And Body Works
darlindeb25 replied to minibabe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, their response was an extremely poor response. I will say though, I use some of their body and lotions and have never had a reaction, gluten wise. Their Moonlight Path does cause me to have an asthma like reaction. I use Sweet Pea, White Tea and Ginger, Peony, and I used the Vanilla. None of them cause any type of reaction with me. I never use anything... -

He has very interesting posts in: Open Original Shared Link Many of the members refer to him with problems. Pets have many of the same problems we do. Deb -
ARCHIVED "celiac Disease Can Kill"
darlindeb25 replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thank you for this article. It's time people realize the seriousness of this disease. I have had people say to me, "So all you have to do is give up bread?" This is a very serious disease, just the same as diabetes and so many others. Thank you, Deb
