  1. The only way you can be sure is to remove the lactose from his diet and go from there--see what happens. Everything about celiacs is trial and error. No simple answers here, sorry. Deb
  2. I have been gluten free for 5 yrs last month and still am finding intolerances I didn't realize I had. It's tough, some times a very hard "row ro hoe". At any rate, the alternative, living with gluten, is so much scarier than where I am now. Keep at it. Deb
  3. Most definitely. I get hives when wheat touches my body, like in shampoo or something. Many of us get rashes from being glutened too, it's very normal. Deb
  4. The smell of soy burgers do it to me. I think this is maybe just our sense of smell though and not really anything from celiacs or gluten intolerance. My mother can't stand the smell of bananas. Her grandpa bought a whole truck load of them when she was a child and they ate and ate bananas and to this day, she hates them--won't touch them and she is 7...
  5. A little Irish, English, and German.
  6. Deb, just a word of advice from another Deb--I wouldn't trust the label. Who can truthfully say how much is too much for us? Who really knows? If I read anything that remotely resembles gluten, I don't eat it. Just my opinion. I was purchasing vitamins from Pacific Pride and they told me they were gluten free, but on the label I read, barley grasses...
  7. I use Pantene. The newer ones for certain colors of hair contain gluten, but the old refular ones are fine. Garnier Nutresse is ok, as Is Dove, White Rain, Suave------Tressemme contains gluten, stay away from it. Deb
  8. I am an old pro at this--5 yrs gluten free this month. Yeah, it can last 2 days, 1 week, 2 weeks and when the nausea and diarrhea go away for me, then my tummy hurts, like a huge black and blue for days. It's never fun being glutened and it will happen from time to time. Take care. Deb
  9. I use Splenda and Equal--I have for over 30 yrs and I will continue too. My sweetie is diabetic and he uses them too, he doesnt like Splenda as well because he is afraid it has too much sugar in it--Splenda is made from sugar. Stevia in my opinion is very bitter and I will not buy it. I use no sugar anymore. Deb
  10. I have taken Xanax too, it is definitely gluten free.
  11. Besides all the bad things that could have happened--beer is not gluten free and if he is gluten sensitive, he needs to stay away from beer. Deb
  12. Most canned fruits and veggies are safe--when you run into problems is if they are creamed or something. My info says that DelMonte is safe. Deb
  13. The gin would have made me very ill, for some reason, I can't tolerate alcohols in any form. A tiny glass of wine makes me sicker then the worst hangover ever. You have so many things that you are suspecting to be the problem. The only thing you can do is to eat simple, the things you know don't bother you, then add the others a little at a time. Try...
  14. WEll, I don't know if our nickel allergy is related to celiacs or not. Lots of people have a nickel allergy that aren't celiacs. I was really surprised to see that food contains nickel, don't know why I was surprised, just never thought about it. I have had a sensitivity to earrings with nickel for some years now. Now, I break out in a rash when I wear...
  15. My source says that DelMonte Cream Corn is gluten-free, but of course, read the ingredients. I would like to add, I love the dog, reminds me of a pet we had when I was a kid, he was an Engliah Setter. Deb
  16. I am a member of the Suffolk County Celiac group--this is one of the coordinators of the group-- For More Information- Michael Thorn, Event Coordinator (631) 395-5071 or email pepi0912@aol.com for more information--I would put "celiac info please" in the subject line. The group does meet on Higbie Lane in West Islip--if I can be of any help, email me at...
  17. As of yet, the school probably isnt required to provide food for special diets. As for the cherrios, buy your child some gluten free cherrios to have when the others are having them--just make it very specific to the school that the child must have just her own cherrios and no one elses. If a child is given the choice between carrots and what everyone else...
  18. I was glutened by hazelnut coffee--so yes, please read the ingredients and call the company if in doubt. Deb
  19. Jillian, you probably did see me, I was at the door handing out bags. Had my hair up in a bun--wearing a green shirt--hehe, well we all were wearing green shirts. Was a great place to be, wasnt it? Deb
  20. Minibabe--are you the one that was talking about Trix cereal and asking about the fruit things? I was right across the room from you--I am the one who mentioned the Pacific Pride vitamins with the barley grasses. See you Sunday. Deb
  21. Me--me--hehe--I will be working it too. Sorry if we were at the same meeting and I met you and don't remember you or I missed you. I live in East Islip, I was at the meeting Tuesday night too. I have very long hair, it was in a braid and I was sitting at the same table as Michael was for a while--near the front. Deb
  22. Lister--I work for an optomitrist and he says that the over the counter stuff is off limits. If you have an infection in your eyes, get to your optomitrist and get some meds made for your eyes. He has not done me wrong since I worked there and he has seen me 3 times in 18 months. He treated me for an allergy to the oak trees and for dry eye now and I trust...
  23. I too had cellulitis--was 4 yrs ago last week, Memorial Day weekend, I remember well. My doctor told me that you don't have to do nothing, even a cold can cause it to happen. My knee was injured almost 1 year previously to this happening and I still have the scars on my knee. It swelled terribly, was like a balloon ready to pop. It was on fire, red, hot...
  24. Karen--What is a fruit and yogurt shake--do you make it yourself? Sounds interesting. I am trying to get away from my ricecakes but need breakfast and the shake sounds interesting. Dessa, I have a gazelle too, well, had, I gave it away. I have peripheral neuropathy from my years of undiagnosed celiacs and I just can't use the gazelle. After 10 mins...
  25. There are many false negatives out there that are just that, false. Have you tried gluten free--it can't hurt. Give the diet a chance, but you must remove all gluten, not just a little here or there. I wish you luck. DEb
