  1. What does steak, cheese, and/or tuna have to do with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance? I'm new to this forum and just recently finding out about Celiac and possibly tying it to my ailments. Are these foods related somehow? I wanted to add my thoughts to this. I dont eat any beef anymore, it's too hard on my stomach--beef is one of the toughest foods...
  2. I cant drink wine either, I cant drink any alcohol. They say in the wines it may be the sulfites that effect me. I just know that after one tiny glass of wine, I wake in the morning with the worse hangover ever--its not fun do be that sick from a few sips, so I dont drink any! Deb
  3. Zax--You are not being paranoid--we have to be very careful. Call the 800# on the bottle or email the company and ask. If it takes a few days to find out, then go without the supplements for a few more days. I am leary too when it simply says--no wheat and doesnt list the others--most will say no wheat or gluten, then I feel safe. Although, Puritan Pride...
  4. Just email Scott and ask him to drop you from the list. He can do that or maybe check in "my assistant". Deb
  5. I am willing to bet that more then 50% of us (that is probably on the low side) figure this out before the doctors do. In my family, at least 3 of us are celiacs and we all told the doctors first--they had no idea what was wrong. Deb
  6. Dan--Personally, I would stay away from the oats. I dont trust oats, even though some doctors say we can have them. Oats made me ill before I knew anything about celiacs. I dont believe we can have them. Have you checked your cereal--does it contain barley malt? Barley doesnt normally cause a reaction in me, but it is still a gluten we MUST stay away...
  7. Never give up--dont let the celiac monster do you in. We are here to help--you can email me anytime--do you have messengers? I am always willing to help other celiacs. I have met some very good friends through these forums. Have you checked out other forums, sometimes just by reading you will find the one little thing you are missing. There is www.clanthompson...
  8. I'm wondering if your tea was gluten free--I know that some of the Celestrial Season teas have a note on them that they are not gluten free. I developed a soy intolerance about 3 yrs after being gluten-free and then a corn intolerance almost 3 1/2 yrs into being gluten-free. Around the time I was 4 yrs gluten-free, I found I can no longer have tomatoes...
  9. Geez, and I thought this was an after effect of menopause. I had the worst hot flash ever over 3 years ago and never have them anymore. I am rarely comfortable, usually too warm or too cold--never just fine. I wake very warm at night too. I come home from work and I cant get warm until I crawl into bed. I also keep my home at 70 and I used to keep it...
  10. I just want to add here--kitty litter bothers me, but it's because of the cat, not the litter. My allergies flare around it. My friend Rita has 2 cats, 1 long hair, 1short haired. I am allergic to the short haired cat and not the long haired one. Maybe it's not gluten that is bothering you. Deb
  11. Pumpkin Cookies 2 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 3/4 cup butter or shortening 1 3/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoon cinnamon 16 oz. can of pumpkin Mix well and stir in: 3 1/2 cups gluten-free flour You may add choc chips, nuts, raisins, or a mixture of all Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10...
  12. I am pretty sure that baking powder is gluten free--I know that Arm and Hammer is gluten-free and I have a store brand, American Choice and its gluten free too. Deb
  13. Oh yeah--COFFEE is a food group--100% coffee that is! boneless, skinless chicken breast golden delicious apples Turkey Hill ice cream peanut butter, I couldnt go on without my peanut butter Deb
  14. It is very difficult for others to understand. Many people think of celiacs as they do diabetes. They know a little bit of sugar is ok, so they feel that a little bit of gluten wont hurt us. There are also so many things that gluten is in that no one would ever expect and it's these products that make them say, "You have got to be kidding!" Will he use...
  15. Just read the ingredients hun. At Thanksgiving, my boss gives everyone pies, but gave me a turkey breast. His wife read ingredients at the store and found a turkey breast that stated gluten free on it--she also found a butterball that stated wheat flour on the ingreds----so, just read them to be safe and call the 800#--Deb
  16. Hi Chestnut---I am one of the celiacs that cant tolerate much soy. I can eat products that have soy lecithin and I can tolerate the soy oil in margarines as long as it isnt the only oil. I absolutely can not tolerate soy flour or corn flour. I have googled soy and after reading about it, I dont think I would use it if I could..google soybeans and see what...
  17. Hi there--Colombo Yogurt is gluten-free unless you find one with cookies in it or something--I love Colombo. Like they tell you, modified corn starch is ok and Kraft does always lists its ingreds. I never use Coffee Creamer, I always use milk so I cant help with that one. There is flavored coffee and teas that contain gluten, so you must read their...
  18. I too feel that we are born with the gene, probably dmamge is being done all through our lifes and then something triggers it to become overactive. My sister ate dirt as a young child and we both remember that she was diagnosed with a vitamin deficiency then--she had to take this medicine that we called bug juice. I have always had a very touchy tummy,...
  19. Sometimes I wonder if I am getting gluten hidden in something. I have brain fog so often, but I cant figure where I am getting it. Then again, maybe its alzihimers . A few weeks ago I told my sweetie that had just hidden something from myself and he says, "What do you mean you hid it?" I explained that when I put something away I might as well realize...
  20. I have no idea--I thought it was McDonalds--doesnt matter--I know that in Michigan anyways, they always try to do it your way--here on Long Island, the service people are completely different--had I acted as they do when I worked in Michigan, I would have been unemployed. Deb
  21. Dani, I will talk the diet for you--they covered the urine prob and yeah--sometimes drinking more water will help! Some celiacs do have to give up dairy in the beginning and are able to add it back later on. In many people, the damaged villi cannot handle dairy--I never had a problem with dairy. I was gluten free for 3 years when I realized I had developed...
  22. To my knowledge, McDonalds have always aimed to please---you know, "have your way--h a v e it your way!" Remember, "You get money back from your dollar!" I was never glutened at Wendy's either. I used to order a baked potato there and a frosty--I understand the frosty's have gluten now. I dont live close to one anymore, so I dont frequent there. Deb
  23. I wont ever try oats again--they made me ill before I was gluten free and I wont ever trust them. I like Dr. Green and I do believe most everything he says, but I feel he is wrong about oats. I have listened to him talk too and at that meeting he spoke of oats. He asked the room of over 200 how many would try oats again and only 1 person raised their hand...
  24. Me too Nini and it was terrible. I remember, it wasnt all the time usually, but the minute I laid down at night in bed it would start--the itching was terrible--I remember it well. But, I cant remember if it was before or after going gluten-free--I'm thinking before. It went away, never to return. Deb
  25. I dont know that I trust oats, no matter where they came from. Maybe some dont react to oats, but then maybe they are still doing the same damage anyways. I dont react to barley, but it still is doing damage. I personally feel that some of us react to all glutens, not just the wheat, rye, barley and oats. I cant have soy or corn either. I also grew up...
