ARCHIVED Telling Others About Gluten...
darlindeb25 replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I too understand how you all feel. My sister and father both are celiacs too. So, that makes the odds that much higher for our kids. I know in my heart that 2 of my 5 are gluten intolerant. My daughter is sick a lot, she even called me last week and asked me if I thought she was allergic to corn. I told her it is time to find out if she is celiac too... -

ARCHIVED Just One Little Question.....
darlindeb25 replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I was my sickest, before going gluten-free--I would have terrible days, bad days and not so bad days--I never really had good days. There would be nights I was up all night with diarrhea, sometimes never leaving the bathroom. When there was nothing left--my tummy would relax a little and then I would have a not so bad day--sometimes even 3 not so bad... -
ARCHIVED Stick-on Birth Control Patches, Etc
darlindeb25 replied to skbird's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm really happy I dont have to deal with all this anymore. As many intolerances as I have now, I am sure birth control would be a problem for me. Celiacs threw me into early menopause, but contrary to everything else in my life, menopause went rather smoothly for me. I did have hot flashes for a few years, but havent had one because of menopause in 3... -
So, is glucose syrup similiar to corn syrup here? By the way--Krispy Kremes! I used to sell them, I never have had one, by the time I was selling them at work, I was already gluten free. We had a company before KK called The Sweet Shop--a mom and pop place---they made the best donuts I ever had. When Speedway (where I worked) switched to Krispy Kremes...

ARCHIVED Newbie Here, Please Help!
darlindeb25 replied to Liezl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nettie is correct about the dairy. Some celiacs cant tolerate dairy when they first go gluten-free. I never had a problem with dairy, which is amazing to me, cause I have so many intolerances now. Some cant tolerate rice either--just stick to bland things. Once you feel better, you add one thing at a time. Cream of Rice is an excellent way to warm your... -
ARCHIVED Help... Sick, Stressed And Can't Sleep...
darlindeb25 replied to gabrielle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cute Nettie--I have heard that before too and its true Anyways, Gabrielle, there is a product called melatonin and its a sleep aid. Most people totally relax with it, it can be found in the vitamin section--just make sure you get one that is gluten free. Also, I dont think you should use the Tylenol cold med again, it sounds like a reaction. I have... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free & Friends(?)
darlindeb25 replied to Nevadan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
George--Give them time. Sometimes it is very difficult for others to understand. As you get to feeling a lot better and your spirits lightens, they will see that too. But, never expect everyone to understand totally. Some people just dont grasp the concept. They will always ask, "So you cant have wheat bread, but is white bread ok?" Some will never... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Here, Please Help!
darlindeb25 replied to Liezl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Liezl--Do you tolerate dairy at all. When I first went gluten free, I ate cottage cheese sometimes with 1/2 cup of peaches or applesauce. It gave my tummy time to settle and regroup, so to speak. Maybe some rice, sometimes baked potatoes are good too. Just keep it mild and maybe eat small amounts 6 times a day instead of 3 meals. Feel better! Deb -
ARCHIVED Criticizing Ideas And Not People
darlindeb25 replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Gina--Several felt there was name calling going on--read the posts. You may not have said a specific word directed at her, but the words were there and you meant them to be cruel and hurtful. Kaiti didnt "put down the intelligence of anyone who believes the negative reviews about Kevin Trudeau,"--it was you putting down Kaiti for believing as she does... -
ARCHIVED Criticizing Ideas And Not People
darlindeb25 replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well Gina---I have known Kaiti for a long time and we have been friends since then. She is a very smart lady, she knows her stuff and is always ready to help another out. I ask her questions all the time and she always finds an answer for me. Stops what she is doing and looks it up for me. I read this thread and she didnt ever attack you. She didnt... -
ARCHIVED Support Group In Michigan?
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow--look at all of you from Michigan. Michigan is where I was born and raised. I also raised my children there and my grandkids are growing up there. I live on Long Island New York now and love it. My sister is a member of the Lansing area celiac group. I have gone to a celiac group here---Suffolk County Celiacs. The meetings are nice, but it's always... -
ARCHIVED Many Questions On Symptoms
darlindeb25 replied to johnd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi John--All of our stories are similiar and different at the same time. We all seem to have secondary problems because of the gluten. I have neuropathy and carpal tunnel in my arms and small fiber neuropathy in my legs due to malabsorption. I was the celiac that gained weight--my body fought to survive by adding weight--I lost 60# when I went gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity
darlindeb25 replied to aurora's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Aurora-----To be truthful--the difference between gluten sensitive, gluten intolerance, and celiacs disease is just how much damage has been done. Sensitivity leads to intolerance, which leads to full blown celiacs in time. Everything you read about how to treat celiacs is exactly the way you should be taking care of yourself now. It's kind of like getting... -
ARCHIVED Furious!
darlindeb25 replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As a rule--I never buy Dannon and I also will not purchase anything that says modified food starch unless it is from Kraft--Kraft always list allergens. I love Colombo yogurt--it is made my Yoplait, I think, but it is gluten free--some Kroger yogurts are, most Yoplait is---------Bluelotus, maybe you cant have soy either, I know I cant. My big disappointment... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
darlindeb25 replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree totally with Rachel. I was very sick too and having a difficult time dealing with daily life. My comfort food was TOAST, yeah, one of the worse things I could have been eating. When you read threads asking, "What is the one food you miss now that you are gluten-free?", you will find that most celiac's favorite foods were full of gluten. Mine were... -

ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
darlindeb25 replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Marie, I appologize for misunderstanding your statement. I am an undiagnosed celiac and I doctored for many, many years and got no where. The doctor I am seeing now told me he would not ever ask me to do a gluten challenge just to prove I have it--he is 99% sure I am celiac, just from the symptoms I had for at least 20 years previous to going gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Lawyr's Guacamole Spices & Seasonings
darlindeb25 replied to knvb78's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Joe--I dont know about the dip in general, but in the US maltodextrin is made from corn, so it in itself is gluten free. Dont trust it in other countries though, not necessasarily true outside the US. Also remember that medications are not governed by the same guidelines as food, so maltodextrin in medication can be wheat. I know it is very difficult to... -
Sorry Rusla--I didnt mean that I walk around kissing everyone--geez--just that I draw the line at worrying constantly. My man is very careful with me. He knows how easily I can be glutened and he is careful, but, if I was to get glutened by a kiss, I would just deal with it and kiss him again the next time. That comment was for a smile --Deb

1. During this weather change, does it really affect anyone? I'm finding I'm feeling flu-like most evenings. How long have you been gluten-free--maybe you are getting gluten in someway or maybe it is an intolerance to something else that you havent found yet. I cant tolerate much corn or soy and it is a different reaction then gluten for me. 2...

ARCHIVED Who's Doing Blood Type Diet With Gf?
darlindeb25 replied to GC1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I tried this diet---there is another thread in the forum about this--search for it--you will find other answers too. I am a type A and I dont recall him telling us to eat wheat--as I recall, it said to stay away from wheat and I know it said to stay away from dairy products. I do just fine with dairy, but I followed the diet and I used soy products. I... -

ARCHIVED A Celiac Seeking For Answers
darlindeb25 replied to seeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well Seeker--maybe I can help too. Many celiacs have problems with sugar and it may just be that your system isnt able to deal with sugars yet and going gluten free has just allowed you to realize the problems sugars are causing you--they may always have been a problem, its just the gluten was a bigger problem. Many celiacs have to go dairy free in the... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
darlindeb25 replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
JMARIE, you are very wrong in saying this: "I know this isn't going to be a popular thing to say, but since you brought it up, I am kind of annoyed at the volume of people on this message board that don't have celiac disease. What are you doing here? If you just want to be gluten-free, great, good for you. It's probably a healthy choice." Everyone who...
