  1. Tofu is gluten free, but it is soy, so if youhave an intolerance to soy, no tofu--I cant have tofu. Deb
  2. There is a company that makes gluten free corn and rice cereal that looks just like the Chex brands and there is a cereal named Puffins that would probably make great puppy chow. I found this cereal in Krogers when I was in Michigan, but I have seen it in the health foods dept in the local grocers here too. I had forgotten about puppy chow--I did love that...
  3. My sister and I both have suffered through this itching too. We found quite often it is set off by the water. We both had water softeners installed in our homes, which helped tremondously, we live in an area with very hard water. There are times here that I will get to itching after a shower too--it's usually worse after a shower and yes, I do read the...
  4. I agree with Billygoat--There is whining and then there is WHINING. I understand needing to vent, we all need to vent. Please do lash out that it isnt fair, cause it isnt. That's life, so much about likfe isnt fair. It isnt fair that the gluten free food they make for us doesnt taste anything like the real thing. In this day and age, they should beable...
  5. I eat both Edy's and Turkey Hill----you do have to watch for the ingreds in some--if the list is too long, then I dont buy it. I do eat the butter pecan and vanilla from both brands. Friendly's is ok too and most Breyers--I have even purchased American Choice--sold at Waldbaums here on the island. Deb
  6. I have eaten Quaker Rice Cakes for over 4 years now and I know I have never had a reaction to them. I used to eat their caramel corn cakes and then they changed them to caramel corn rice cakes--I couldnt eat the corn cakes anymore anyways. I did react to their Choc Chip Snack Cakes a few months ago--I thought I reacted to the soy/corn combination, but I...
  7. Each person is different and sometimes reactions are different---I get flu like symptoms and I generally will not feel well again for weeks. Now barley doesnt cause a reaction at all with me, but it still is doing the same damage. Most gluten incident will cause diarrhea for me--I havent been glutened too many times. Soy/corn on the other hand cause constipation...
  8. I have read this thread from start to finish and I have to add my memories now. I was sick for so long--diarrhea nearly every night, sometimes all night long. I couldnt plan anything, I was raising 5 kids pretty much alone--running them all over, hoping to not be sick when they needed me most. When I went gluten free, it was a relief. I didnt mourn the...
  9. I'm sorry hun, but I think you knew the pretzels were a bad idea. I do know that hunger you are talking about--it hits me still, after 4 yrs, I still get hungry like that and just seem crazed. I do feel for you, but you have got to stop this gluten eating--ok. Deb
  10. I cant have soy, but I can tolerate soy lecithin and some soy oil--I can do dairy though, so I just am very careful to get a magarine that isnt just soy oil. I use olive oil often too. Deb
  11. Some people have no reaction to gluten, but the damage is still being done inside along with the fact--that same damage is making your body more exceptable of other diseases. Some people have immediate reactions to gluten, some get very sick within an hour, some get sick slower, some of us are ill for days--if I get glutened, its over a week before I start...
  12. Here's a view from an old one--hehe. I'm 50 and dating again. At this point in life, honestly most of the guys are pretty easy with this. By this age, most everyone has some kind of health issue and are more understanding. To be honest, even my co workers watch out for me. I have never been glutened by a kiss. I dont think you should go out in the...
  13. Armoorefam---I dont know if you can judge B12 in this way. I have never heard this before. I take 1000mcg of B12 daily--first thing in the morning. I take sublingual B12, under my tongue, goes directly into my bloodstream. Until lunch time, my urine is dark yellow, after lunch it goes back pale until the next day when I take my B12 again. So, does that...
  14. I am on Long Island--about 40 miles maybe from Dani--I live in East Islip--Deb
  15. Use away! Deb
  16. My prayers are with you Nancy--the holiday is approaching and I know it will be a rough one--bless you and your family. Now, DancesWithWolves--it doesnt matter if you are gluten sensitive, gluten intolerant, or celiac--the end result is the same--you must go gluten free. I do feel that if a person finds out they are gluten insensitive and do nothing about...
  17. I cant tell you what is good, but I can say I was glutened by CVS brand of nasal spray last winter--Deb
  18. I have always known there was brain fog--I have always heard about it--I just never realized it effected me. Ianm said the exact words I used to describe the feeling I had, exactly. I remember feeling like I was floating around the room and could hear everything that was said, but could not talk. I was in a room with the school principal, a social worker...
  19. Honest, you guys brought tears to my eyes--I was told it was all in my head--that was back when I had panic attacks and I felt just the way you are describing. It is such a relief to know it wasnt me--I believed it was in my head like they told me for so long. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Thank you so much! Deb
  20. Wow, 4 yrs gluten free and I never heard anyone before describe how I used to feel and I never connected it to gluten. I used to feel I was floating around a room--this is the perfect description: I can see and hear everything going on around me but I cannot connect or respond to any of it. Another description is like having my head wrapped in an airtight...
  21. Bob's Candy Canes are gluten-free, as are Allen, Cadbury, Hershey's hardf candies, Jolly Rancher, Life Savers, Nestle SweeARTS candy canes, all Spangler candycanes---I think that most candy canes will be safe, but if you question any ingreds, then call the company---I love cinnamon candy canes and I have never found one with gluten. Deb
  22. I have only had DH a couple of times and both times it started on one elbow and mirrored itself on the other elbow in a few days. I am told that DH always does this, mirror images itself. Check your soaps, shampoos, lotions, perfumes--anything you may put on your body as well as in it. I break out from any of those items if I am not extremely careful....
  23. Mine is from "The Vitamin Shoppe"---many CVS vitamins are gluten free too and it says it on the package. Nature Made may have one too. Nature Made always states on the container if they are gluten free. Deb
  24. Hun--you wont get better if you continue to eat gluten. You have to take charge of your food. Dont eat the sandwich and is the bread gluten free? Just because the food is set in front of you doesnt mean you have to eat it--you have got to get a handle on your food. The walking is good for you. I feel once you get the gluten out of your system, then you...
  25. I just received this email from Suffolk County Celiacs, my support group here. I thought that some of the info would be of interest to all of you: Cathy Ficalora, M.S., R.D., C.D.N. was our guest speaker. Cathy is a Registered Dietician who herself has celiac and was diagnosed a little over a year ago. Cathy can be contacted at 631-422-2071 for an appointment...
