  1. Call their 800# and ask--that is the best thing you can do---well, I didnt find an 800# but here is their other info: Corporate Office 111 3rd Ave South Minneapolis, MN 55401 Phone 612-334-9746 Many flavored coffee's contain gluten--you have to be very careful. Call and ask! Deb
  2. I used to shop at Krogers and I really miss them. There aren't any here on Long Island. Anyways--Kroger has a code system that tells you the gluten-free products--at least they used too--I talked to the company once and they told me--but I dont remember what it was Deb
  3. The only people who I have ever heard say they are safe are non-celiacs. I wont take the chance. My sister is a dietician and she had a discussion with someone about wheat and barley grass and she told him that until he was celiac and could prove it didnt do damage, then she wasn't trying it. She has celiacs too. So, I will never even try it. Personelly...
  4. Very familiar! When I get glutened with wheat, I am sick for a few days, but if I get processed soy or corn, I am sick for a few weeks. Regular gluten gives me diarrhea and once my tummy is empty, it cant go much farther--soy and corn constipate me and the stomach cramps last for days. I have never eaten anything on purpose--the only times I have been...
  5. Click on this site: Open Original Shared Link ---there is a place to click on for "live help"--you can speak with someone from the company. Deb
  6. I think everyone covered it all----if you take vitamins, be very careful of the ingredients--there are vitamins now that state wheat and gluten free. I almost made the mistake of taking a B1 that says wheat free, but it doesnt say gluten free--it may contain barley--so, it is going back. Medicines are not regulated like the food is here, so you must find...
  7. We all are or have been angry because of this disease. Some of us are angry because we found out we have this disease when we didnt even know we were sick--I understand that anger--you feel like you are being punished and you dont know why. Then some are angry finding out they have this disease after being sick for a short time and you feel cheated too...
  8. Macular degeneration is hereditary. I work for an eye doctor and I asked him about it because my sweetie's mother has it. She is nearly blind now at 85. The doctor said there really is nothing you can do other then stay as healthy as you can, eat right, and have regular check-ups. He says the vitamins they advertise for it really do nothing--that was...
  9. For foot odor--I dont know about avoiding leather--leather breathes much better then vinyl, which is the material they use for sneakers when not using leather or cloth. I dont have smelly feet, so I cant really say--I just know that man-made fibers do not breathe as well as leather. My uncle swears by putting mouth wash on your feet. He says the reason...
  10. Since my mom is a freckled redhead, we know there must be some irish on that side and on dad's side we have english and german. Deb
  11. I agree with nearly everything that has been said. In July I will be gluten-free now for 5 years, I was sick for over 20 before finding out. I was relieved at the time that there really was something wrong with me and it wasnt all in my head. I suffered terrible panic attacks, I was taking 40 mg. of paxil daily and still suffering. I just recently found...
  12. I am a Lawn Guylander now (Long Island, New York) but grew up in Ashley, Michigan. Dangerkitten, Janet, I worked in St. Johns for years. My sister is celiac and a dietician in St. Johns. There is a very nice store in Lansing on the east side that is called "Food For Life". It has a wide variety of gluten free foods and I miss that store here. The owner...
  13. I take 1000 mcg of sublingual B12 daily and my doctor told me that I probably am not getting enough B12 to deal with my neuropathy with it--he thinks maybe I should have shots instead. Your body will eliminate the extra B12 anyways. Deb
  14. I love Moonlight Path, but it sets off an allergic reaction in me--the not breathing well, tearing, terrible headache type of reaction. I use their lotion and body sprays in White Tea and Ginger and Sweet Pea. I dont buy their soaps though. Deb
  15. By the way--they meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month on Higbie Lane at an old elementry school in West Islip. Deb
  16. I use only Pantene on my hair--my hair is below my waist now and very thick--it takes special care and Pantene works well, I cant think of the name right now, but that Aussie product, One Minute Hair treatment is gluten-free--suave is gluten-free------for body wash I use Softsoap, I havent found one containing gluten yet, Suave is good too--I use Lady's Speedstick...
  17. Absolutely--I agree with Richard. There is no reason for you to return to gluten for a test. Why do doctors want to torture us? I have never had an official diagnosis and I know I absolutely cannot ever have gluten again. The doctor I am seeing now tells me he would never ask me to do a gluten challenge, he says without a test he is 99% sure I am celiac...
  18. Hi Kim--I live in East Islip, the only support group I know of around here meets in West Islip. It's called the Suffolk County Celiac Support Group. Group: Suffolk County Celiacs - a Branch of GIG City: Suffolk County Contacts: Les Doti PO Box 13 Kings Park, NY 11754-0013 631 724-6631 Barbara Pepitone, Patchogue 631 363-6429 Michael Thorn...
  19. Just tell them that--that is what I do. I join in with the conversation and have a good time without eating their food. You could make some gluten free food to take and share. It's not really a matter of your feeling comfortable around them now, its them feeling comfortable around you. Just let them know. I dont have this problem at our family Christmas...
  20. If the ingredients are 100% tea, then there s nothing to worry about unless it tends to upset your tummy as others have mentioned. I drink tea often--I prefer black, but can drink green too. Many of the Celestrial Seasonings Teas do contain gluten, but they state it on the box. Anytime you are thinking of drinking a tea or coffee that is flavored, you...
  21. Dan--here are a couple of sites I found in another thread--dont know if you saw them too or not--check them out: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I also sent them to you in an email. I hope you are getting the emails. I found this too: What support organizations exist in Austrailia? If you live in Austrailia, be sure to contact...
  22. I am not sure about others, because this isnt something that comes up often. I know exactly what you mean and have gone through it too. It doesnt happen as often to me anymore, but still does. I have been gluten free now for 4 1/2 years. Our systems just work differently and I dont really think there is a normal, only what's normal for us. You may agree...
  23. I wonder if some of your problems have nothing to do with celiacs. Many women have menstrual problems without being celiac. I was always very regular, but had a very heavy flow, to the point that I could not leave home for the first 2 or 3 days. I am thankful I am on the down side of menopause--I served my time Deb
  24. I'm sorry Deb, that's all I know--I cant have corn flour anymore so I dont look for it. I know you can get gluten-free cornmeal, I had some for cornbread last Christmas, that's when I found out I no longer can tolerate corn flour. I know you can find 100% corn flour, but finding the dedicated lines is the hard part. I hope you find what you need. Deb
  25. Bob's Red Mill Flours have a corn flour--here's their site: Open Original Shared Link I used to get it at Krogers, before I developed an intolerance to corn too. Deb
