  1. You're right Sparkles, tingling and burning are symptoms of neuropathy. What I mentioned is buzzing, like a vibration in my feet--in the neuropathy forum, I was told this can be a sign of healing, especially since it is a new sensation for me. I have had neuropathy for 9 years now and have had so many different feelings, the water running down my leg, the...
  2. I'm sorry, I lost this thread for some time, I wanted to post my results in here--the doctor told me they are all within the normal range--you tell me, please! TSH 1.97 T4, Free 1.1 T4, Total 9.3 T3, Uptake 27.2 with the T4, Free Calculated 2.53 T3 Total 140 Everything was in the normal range except my red blood cout was a little high--I did...
  3. Could still be periphreal neuropathy--it changes. The feelings may last a short time and go away or they may stay with you. I have a new feeling in my feet, it's like I am standing on a vibrating cellphone. Some tell me it may be nerves finally healing, I guess they tend to vibrate like that. I hope it is healing!
  4. I think the greatest gifts you can get are time with family and friends. I went to Michigan and spent time with my parents, sister and her family, my kids and my grandkids. My grandkids are growing so much. My biggest disappointment was not getting to meet my newest grandson, my son and the mother are not together and she would not allow me to see Ethin...
  5. Isn't it amazing how many symptoms are the same, yet different. Amazing that gluten can do so much harm to a body. I have taken bits from many of your stories to send to my son. He was tested for celiacs, yet told no, he doesn't have it, I believe a false negative. He just turned 30 in Dec., has acid reflux, arthritis in his knees, bursitis in his shoulder...
  6. I am 51 and am self diagnosed--gluten-free for over 5 yrs now. Have a sister diagnosed 4 months before me and our dad has been gluten-free for a little over 2 yrs now. We all had been sick for years and years!
  7. Maltitol is made from corn and isomalt is made from soy--do have any intolerances to these? They are not gluten.
  8. Like they always say--when you fall off the horse, get right back on! It happens, don't beat yourself up!!!
  9. Do some research for support groups--here's one for you: Group: Nutmeg City: Danbury/Waterbury Contacts: Edith Meffley 32 Lewis Dr. Ridgefield, CT 06877 203-438-6108 Eileen Gallo 17 Pole Bridge Road Sandy Hook, CT 06482 Internet: Syd Aronowitz, itsme@erols.com Updated: 10 Mar 2001 There is a huge support...
  10. It is true, when nerves are healing, they twitch, buzz, and other things, similiar to when they are dying....I was sick with celiacs for such a very long time before going gluten-free. My neuropathy was diagnosed over 3 yrs before we found out about celiacs. Mine started as carpal tunnel, then my toes became involved, my hips, and neck. Last year I...
  11. Thank you all, I now have ammo for my doctor's appt today. I was so sure that thyroid may just be part of my problems and yet they did a bloodwork up last week and tellme it came back normal. So, today I will ask my doctor to read it to me and explain the info you have just given me. I am so tired of having to tell the doctors what to look for and yet...
  12. I can't really say that going gluten free made a difference for me because as many celiacs do, I went through menopause early, was already going through it when I went gluten-free. I was just as many of you, for the first 3 days of my cycle, I didn't leave home if I didn't have too. Sometimes I feel that my body thinks it has to do every to extremes!
  13. Sorry Richard, but influenza was never mentioned--the word did not come up in any post. Stomach flu is a very real illness and it is very difficult for a celiac to know if they have flu or glutened. No one mentioned upper respiratory and I just wanted to show that it is called "stomach flu". It is true that influenza and stomach flu are not the same thing...
  14. To be honest with you, we will always have an underlying paranoia where others are concerned. We always must look out for ourselves. Many people will offer you something they have made and they will say, "Of course it's gluten free!" Yet, they have no idea what gluten is! Flour is flour to them, it's not gluten. They really aren't trying to make you...
  15. A-Z Health Guide from WebMD Stomach flu (gastroenteritis) Stomach flu, sometimes called gastroenteritis, is inflammation of the stomach and intestines. It can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection or by some poisons. The symptoms of gastroenteritis include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, and weight loss. Stomach...
  16. My sister was diagnosed a celiac in Mar of 2001, I am not a diagnosed celiac and still, I KNOW I am a celiac too and I have been gluten-free since July 2001, and our dad has been gluten-free since Nov 2004. My dad has had stomach problems for as long as I can remember. For years and years he took this little pink pill that we always called his "stomach...
  17. Yes, you could have the flu, we do also get sick just like everyone else. Maybe you are glutening yourself in some way. Just try to eat simple things like rice and chicken for a few days and see what happens.
  18. Have you ever had a problem with soy? I can't use the "Chicken Of The Sea" tuna because of the soy. Bumble Bee Tuna has a foil pouch pack of tuna that does not use soy as their water base and that is the only tuna I have found that has no soy. The mayo also has soy in it and I can only use a canola mayo, which I buy Hellman's Canola Mayo--it tastes just...
  19. Orajel is gluten-free too and works very well to numb the area.
  20. There is a gluten-free restaurant in Wantagh too, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it is called. I know they have spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, pizza--lots of favorites. Is Wantagh too far away?
  21. I love almost all Christmas music, one of my favorites is Garth Brooks singing, "Daddy looks alot like Santa, or Santa looks alot like him". My all time favorite Christmas movie is "The Night They Saved Christmas" with Jaclyn Smith. It's been out for several years and I just love to watch it. I think Art Carney is Santa in it. It explains how Santa...
  22. Yup, I'm a member of this crowd too, not even wine. It all makes me terribly sick. I never was much of a drinker to begin with, so I really do not miss it, just aggravating that if I did want a drink, I can't have it.
  23. I agree with Cassidy. There is a select group of people here on the boards, we are computer savvy enough to know how to use the forums--some people out there still do not even own a computer. Almost everything I know about celiacs, I learned online--some people just do not have that option. It would be a great survey though, just to find a ratio in some...
  24. Sometimes some of us never get a true answer, the only answer we find is just going gluten free. If gluten free makes you feel better, then do it. If there are still issues with other foods, then try an elimination diet. I'm sure someone will come along and explain an elimination diet to you or post you a link. Many celiacs have been misdiagnosed by the...
  25. There will always be that person out there who claims he/she can cure us. There is no cure, just a gluten free lifestyle. People who think they are cured are just hiding from reality, they want so bad to believe that everything is ok. I am very spiritual, I am a moderator on a spiritual angel forum and many, many times I have been told that I wish this...
