  1. It takes me 3 or 4 days to get pass the intial symptoms and then 3 weeks to recover.
  2. I personally have not heard of that with celiac disease. I think you should get to an optomitrist as soon as you can and have it checked out. If you tell them just what you typed here, I am sure they will get you right in. This could be something not related to celiac's. I work for an optomitrist and I know he would want to see you as soon as possible...
  3. blueeyedmanda--I have never seen cashiers anywhere else like here. Granted, some are nice, yet there are more who are not. They talk on their cellphones, they talk about their personal problems with each other while checking you out, they swear like you would not believe, they can be very rude when you ask them to check a price, they eat while working,...
  4. Wow, I had cockatiels, a conure, finches, a lovebird, and parakeets and never thought about their foods. We also had 2 dogs and cats, the cats outside. My kids had chickens for show and pygmy goats. I handled feed, loved my animals and birds, and do not believe I was ever glutened by them. In over 5 years, I have only been glutened a handful of times...
  5. Well Larry, if we can't laugh about this, who can??????
  6. I think after we gain knowledge about celiac disease, then we can see it in others in our families. I have come to the conclusion that most people should not eat gluten. I think if tests were done on everyone, which isn't realistic, we would find many out there who have no symptoms, yet are also celiac without knowing. My dad always had stomach issues...
  7. I used to be terrified to raise my hand in class for fear of being ridiculed in some way.... But then, something little would set me off, and I would just simply explode! Yup, this too I remember. The worst time was on a school bus when my best friend was angry at me for something and she said something that set me off, I threw a book at her. I still...
  8. What is Adrenal Fatigue?
  9. Larry--where the Vote4PresBush04 is coming from This was an email address of Kaiti's also--same person as KaitiUSA, that's why it is coming up too. I think quite often people feel a little icky after eating fast food because we do not normally eat that type of food and our stomachs are not used to it. I know that I never eat that kind of food anymore...
  10. Well Valda, I don't think I can have tapioca. I haven't tried it again, yet the last time I had it, I got very ill. Thank you.
  11. Last year, at Christmas time, I made puppy chow for the other employees in my office and my daughter. It's made with Crispex cereal, chocolate chips, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. It is yummy, yet I did not eat any because the cereal had barley malt in it. Somehow, I managed to get glutened by it. I had never reacted to barley, until that time. ...
  12. I always was known for my very volatile, explosive temper growing up, and I am certain it was gluten related. Weird Karen, me too! From my childhood, I remember a person asking me if I ever smile. It's funny, have you ever noticed how another person says something that so relates to your life. I often look at my wedding pictures, I was only 17 and I...
  13. But I react to so many things, that it isn't possible to know what made me sick this time. I don't know what it feels like to be well. How do I measure wellness then? Some days I feel less sick than others. On days I am feeling a little worse, who is to say why? Exactly how I feel Ursa! I never feel good, I have days when I do not feel as bad, but never...
  14. I'm sorry Lisa, I wasn't referring to everyone being catty, just the few who are. My mother has always taught us, "If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all!" I will not mention another word about Steve, I never lied and was not mistaken--the proof is in his posts.
  15. Congrats Heathen on your first anniversary and I hope the rest find you as happy!
  16. If I could still eat potatoes, I would definitely go to Wendy's for a baked potato with cheese. I used to get them all the time and not once was I ever glutened. I also ate McDonald's fries with no problems--my sister still does. I miss baked potatoes.
  17. I research a lot and I have read about autistic kids. I have a friend here on the island with an autistic son and he was tested a few years back for celiac and it wasn't found. Many autistic kids are celiac and I'm sure there are sites to attest to it. Interesting thought--child and adult onset celiacs. I wonder if that will truly happen. I have read...
  18. It's sad Karen, but many people are afraid to post in this forum and not because of me. I have lots of people emailing me, asking me questions that they are afraid to ask in the forum. They are afraid of being attacked, they are afraid of how they have seen other's treated. They email me because they can tell the type of person I am by my realistic posts...
  19. especially when I've for instance been on vacation in Italy and managed not to get glutened for 2 1/2 weeks and thought screw it, Ive only 3 days left and I can eat real pizza, pasta and drink real beer..... my justificaqtion is I'm goiung to be ill for 2-6 weeks (depending on severity) so x weeks or x weeks+3 days ??? From your first post. its making...
  20. I agree with Donna--celiac is the least of my problems now. Of course my problems are because of celiac disease to begin with.
  21. Don't kid yourself Jerry, you have it, so does your twin! We all do, doesn't matter if we are doctor diagnosed or not. You are a member of the club--you need a new shirt that says--KISS ME CAREFULLY, I'M GLUTEN FREE, ARE YOU
  22. I have 5 grown kids now and yes, they had lots and lots of "accidents". Accidents happen, we can't stop them from happening, that's why they are called accidents. My kids used to get hurt just playing. One summer the ER knew us on a first name basis, I was afraid they would think I was abusing my kids. One of them said, "Honey, don't you worry, your...
  23. Yes Ally, you do read that and just speaking for myself, I can tell you, my life changed drastically, yet that doesn't mean I still didn't have issues. I was so sick and not having diarrhea every night was something to brag about. We do all feel better, usually quite quickly, yet most of us were feeling so horrible that even the smallest improvement means...
  24. Your suggestion makes sense for a short term vacation, but three weeks worth of food is not possible....I was not suggesting anyone take enough food for 3 weeks, he was talking about 3 days. He said he did fine until the 3 day trip, which I may add, he did not plan for in any way. A celiac should never count on gluten-free on a flight--when planning the...
  25. Yes, sweeteners here in the US anyways, are gluten free. I use Splenda and Nutrataste or Equal. As for the toaster, yes you do need your own or at least purchase a toast bag--check online for gluten free toaster bags. A tiny crumb from regular bread will make you very ill. Cross contamination is a very real problem for gluten free people. Use your...
