ARCHIVED Celiac Or Ibs
darlindeb25 replied to KirstySF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Jestgar, totally. I had doctored for so long and had so many wrong answers, I didn't need a GI to say yes or no, I know. -
ARCHIVED My Friends Results
darlindeb25 replied to georgie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think her specialist may have taken one sample, or maybe doesn't even know what he/she is looking for. If she had a positive blood test, then she definitely should go gluten free. A gluten free diet can't hurt her, yet it could make her feel so much better. A positive blood test would be all I needed to go gluten-free. It's sad, yet many celiac's have... -
ARCHIVED Feeling A Little Bit Sad

Gabby--yes, flowers are a great idea. They brighten the day so well. Yes, we do all go through this in the beginning. -

ARCHIVED Wooden Spoons
darlindeb25 replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Babygirl--wooden spoons are ok if you buy them new to use after going gluten free--you should never use an old one, once you are gluten-free. Does that help? -
I sometimes tape them shut too. For future reference Larry, gluestick would be better--ok.

ARCHIVED Wooden Spoons
darlindeb25 replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is such a thing as being over cautious and making too much work of things. I am very senstive to gluten too, yet when my kids were still home, I never was glutened by the dishes and we had a dishwasher--my sister is very sensitive too and she has never had a dishwasher in her home. She is a dietician in a hospital and I know they do not have the time... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms,need Some Answers,stressed Out
darlindeb25 replied to Paulr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Paul, many celiac's do not loose weight before going gluten-free. Our bodies learn to adjust to what it is fed and overcompensates for what it is lacking. I just kept gaining weight when I was sickest, no one could understand why I was gaining when I ate so little. I lost weight after I went gluten free. Why are you gluten free now if you are scheduled... -
A lot of people have a secondary allergy to gluten in addition to the intolerance. I do not think I have heard it worded this way before and now that I have, it makes perfect sense. A secondary allergy to gluten would explain why I can't have gluten touching my body either, totally explains the hives I get from oats, wheat, and corn in lotions, shampoos...

ARCHIVED Need Proof Of Pharmaceutical Company's Power?
darlindeb25 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It still stands to reason, pharmacutical companies do not want research done on diseases like celiac because they do not get revenue from it--no drugs, no money for them. No tinfoil hat conspircy there. The only way to preserve fruits and vegatables is by freezing or canning them. I grew up on a farm, I know apples have a certain shelf life and thats... -
ARCHIVED I Did Something Stupid....
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup, I was told Ezekiel bread was gluten free and to try it. I read the ingredients and knew there was no way it was gluten-free. Some people just do not understand what gluten free means. -
ARCHIVED Question
darlindeb25 replied to Anteau25's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To my knowledge, it's gluten free, yet contains corn. -
ARCHIVED Don't Know What's Wrong
darlindeb25 replied to GlutenWrangler's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Brian, you need to calm down and think. Doing the dishes 3 times is overworking you, you are stressing yourself out over all this. I think maybe you should try eating simple for a week or so and see if things calm down. Beef, in itself bothers my stomach, the fat content is too high for me. 3 gallons of water a day is a lot of water. My sweetie was told... -
ARCHIVED I Did Something Stupid....
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After all this my tests will probably come out negative and they will tell me there is nothing wrong with me Awwwwwwwww Jerry, I think the spelt already proved you can't have gluten!!!!! -
ARCHIVED Are There Any Healthy, Dry Snacks?
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure about salty snacks, I usually stick to Lays reg chips for that. How about dried fruit? I love dried pineapple, there are dried bananas, apricots, etc. There are the little ricecake snacks. -

ARCHIVED Cottage Cheese?
darlindeb25 replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Larry, I never eat anything that states modified food starch unless it is from a company such as Kraft, which always states the allergens. Modified food starch can be made from wheat, so when in doubt, I do not touch it. Some people feel that modified food starch is safe now that we have the new allergen laws in effect, but some companies are still not... -
ARCHIVED Really Dumb Question Sorry Lol
darlindeb25 replied to amarieski's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dee, in the beginning, it is very difficult to understand where the gluten is--we will not make fun of you. Yes, white rice is ok, just always read the package. I have eaten brown wild rice also. Even a good share of the minute rices are gluten free. Any question is ok here, don't worry--ok. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have A Reaction From Handling Gluten Food
darlindeb25 replied to ami27's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Awwwwwwwww Larry--sorry about that son of yours. And, by the way, you would have to live in a bubble to stay away from all that. Everywhere you go, you take a chance on being glutened, so you might as well live in your house. -
GTO, have you given all gluten, not just wheat? You must stop eating wheat, rye, barley, and probably oats. Gluten is not just wheat. If you haven't given it all up, then that may be why you are still getting sick. The ringing in your ears may have nothing to do with gluten. I have tinnitus, which is a ringing in the ears. To me, it sounds like a field...

ARCHIVED Cottage Cheese?
darlindeb25 replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Long Island, but New York does not know how to make good cottage cheese. In Michigan I used to eat, Pairie Farms, Michigan, Country Fresh, and Kroger brand cottage cheese. We have Breakstone here, yet I do not really like it, Pathmark is ok, Friendship brand is another that is gluten-free, but I do not like it, Shoprite brand is probably the one... -
ARCHIVED Food Coloring In Frozen Salmon
darlindeb25 replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well Gabby, that confused me just a tad! It can't be caught wild, it must be wild caught! Right? Anyways, the thing I wanted to add, now that I guess none of us should eat farmed salmon, I have read on the package: The coloring of the salmon is a direct effect of the feed they are fed! I oftened wondered about that phrase. I know the animal digests... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
darlindeb25 replied to rickops's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No one can be sure when their neuropathy began. Sometimes the symptoms are so slight, you do not realize it. The doctor tells me my began with carpal tunnel, I was diagnosed with it over 8 years ago, yet had trouble with my wrists long before that. A few months after the diagnosis of carpal tunnel, my toes started going numb. My hips were very involved... -
ARCHIVED Is One Of Our Members Buried Under 100" Of Snow?
darlindeb25 replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was watching either on tv or aol news and they were interviewing a resident in Oswego. This person said they expect this amount of snow every winter and 93" is the norm, I was thinking, OMG, I would hate that. In my apartment, I would not beable to see out even. Here on Long Island, New York, we have had maybe an inch of snow, just traces otherwise and... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
darlindeb25 replied to rickops's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have neuropathy caused by celiac disease. Mine is B12 deficiency based, we think, any ways. I have small fiber neuropathy in my legs, which didn't show up with a doppler test and the doc didn't really say the type in my arms and upper torso, yet it did show up on the doppler test. There are many, many different feelings a neuropathy patient can feel...
