    Thanks Peter, I appreciate your response. The Scoutmaster was aware. Lane had been on other camp outs (always with his father) and all were aware of his condition. It was just this one mother this time. She knew his condition but told him it wouldn't hurt him to do the clean up. Very frustrating.

    Hi Nina, I'm glad you found this board. I agree with you on the baked goods. The gluten free breads, cookies, etc. in the stores are so expensive and not that tasty. My family is from Stockholm.     So I broke down and finally decided that my 11 year old son could go on a weekend Boy Scout camp out without my husband to go with him and watch the potential food problems. He is really good about not eating or even touching anything that we didn't give him. We even went out and bought him a new cooler and stocked it with what he needed for the camp out...

    Sublingual B12 perked me up a bit. And then unexpectedly took away a bit of my edgy-ness. I don't feel as panicky. I told my husband either his driving was getting better, or that B12 has really helped. He assured me his driving had not improved. Gina

    I got my son's doctor to really listen when I kept a food diary complete with how he acted every day. It showed the difference between being gluten free and what happened when he had a small amount or accidental gluten. He gave me a "clinical" diagnosis that day for the sake of school, and then referred us to a specialist. Not sure what to say as to...

    I bought some of these mixes. The sponge cake did not make me sick, but the one that was wheat bread (which is said to have been modified to remove the gluten) made me horribly sick...although they did not affect my son. I won't touch them again, though. Gina

    When I go to things like that, I usually try to get my food first. That way I don't have to worry about cc from folks using utensils from other foods or even gluten-coated fingers. But otherwise, I have never had problem with the packaged fresh vegetables. Gina

    We don't live in Baltimore, but we're close enough in Portsmouth, VA. I have been told that the only way I would run 3 miles is if donuts were at the finish line. So the food was our favorite part. My son got teary eyed when we left. We ate at Great Sage and Austin Grill last year. Both were great. Love to hear any suggestions you have. Gina

    I've been able to pinpoint my son's reaction to dyes to Red Dye #40. It breaks out his face and gives him like a "mini" gluten attack. I say mini because it last only a couple days as compared to a couple weeks. We stay away from red dye completely. I've read that a lot of children react to red dye. I'm hoping he outgrows this one...so is he. Gina

    I buy big things of almonds, pistacios and rice at BJs and haven't had any problems. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions on what might be causing it. Gina

    I just wanted to share that we went out on a limb and tried Carrabbas in Virginia Beach. We rarely eat out and it is always kind of scary to go someplace new. So I went in armed with our pre-printed gluten free menu that had disclaimers on it, but when I got in the door, they had a gluten free menu posted and framed up front. That was a good sign. ...

    What about crackerjacks? We had the same problem with my son's soccer team. I'm afraid I sent the dreaded fruit...and chips.

    I spent many years being nauseated (amongst other issues) and not realizing why - I thought it was stress. It's also one of my tell-tale signs now along with mouth ulcers when I've had a little cc issue. Gina

    Sorry, I wouldn't touch Chuck E Cheese with a stick. It's just so dirty in general I'ld be scared to death about gluten on every single thing in there. I think inviting the birthday girl/boy over to play is a good and much safer idea. But I know, it's terrible for a child to feel left out, and I'm sorry.
