  1. Hi Carolyn, Welcome. I am sorry you have had such a rough time. Just a bit of a side note, the Center for Celiac Research located there in Baltimore has an annual Celiac 5k walk/run- This year it will be Sunday, May 4th. They have tons of info and vendors present there as well as celiac researchers and specialists. We plan to be there - we had...
  2. I called Duncan Hines. They assured me their frostings were gluten-free except for any with cookies, coconut, buttercream, or whipped. The Dark chocolate is our FAVORITE!!!!!!!!! I don't know about the other. I stick with Duncan Hines dark chocolate or make my own cream cheese frosting. Enjoy! Gina
  3. I'm a big fan of yoga and playing the piano is quite soothing.
  4. Thanks Tarnalberry for sharing the pictures. It clouded up on us and we missed it - the kids were bummed. These photos will surely cheer them up...otherwise we just wait until December 2010 to see it again.
  5. Welcome to the board! I am sure you will begin finding yourself feeling better than ever soon. However, I would not wait to the weekend. I would stop eating gluten right now and never look back. Once you see how much better you feel, probably in ways you never anticipated were even related to gluten, you won't even think about "cheating". Best of...
  6. I love Purefit bars, especially the peanutbutter and the almond ones. My kids like them, too. I think the texture does not appeal to some people. But the flavor is very good. I don't know how to describe the texture...kind of "slick". They are kind of pricey, too. I sampled them at a health expo before buying. I guess that wasn't much help. But...
  7. I fixed these this evening with the oatmeal substitution that larrymac suggested - my daughter demolished 2 right off the bat - and she's not even the celiac!! Thanks for the recipe.
  8. I've been taking 1 a day for exactly 1 week, and I noticed a difference after a few days. My cramps in my palms and feet subsided, as well as my anxiety - wasn't expecting that. And I feel a lot "brighter." I think 1 a day should be a good amount.
  9. I'm sorry, but I just can't do it. Nobody really understands this the way we do. There are so many little things that regular people just don't think of. Well-intentioned they might be, I could not trust someone to fix food for my son, unless I bought all the ingredients and they fixed it in my house. I don't think I'll get over that one.
  10. Congratulations on a successful, healthy year! My son will hit his 3 year mark March 13. 7 years for me in October. I don't even remember what poptarts tasted like - just that I loved them! It's all worth it to feel good! Gina
  11. The website is Open Original Shared Link in case you hadn't found it already.
  12. Happy Girl, OK, here are the places someone from the celiac center recommended: Great Sage Austin Grill Legal Seafoods McCormick & Schmicks We ate at Austin Grill (yum) and Great Sage (double yum!). Both have websites. We didn't need to take our own menus. Of course, this was a year ago. Hope they haven't changed! Gina
  13. Sure - I've got it at home, though. I'm at work - oops
  14. Definitely worth the trip! And they have some great (safe) restaurants there, too. My son cried when we left last year - he was so happy to have so much to eat out in public. Anyway, check out the site at www.celiaccenter.org. You'll see celiac 5k walk/run on the left side bar. They have them in several states.
  15. My family and I are getting geared up for the Celiac 5k walk/run in Baltimore on May 4th. We had a great time last year and got to try and buy lots of great foods - donuts, pizza, french bread... Anyone else planning on going?? Gina
  16. I always get sick after eating Hershey's minis of any kind. I don't have the same problem with the full size. Not sure why.
  17. Welcome Nikky, I'm sure you will start to feel much better soon. I know I used to have pain in my joints and even in my bones. And I was thinking I was way too young to feel this old. It's all gone now! I'm glad you had such an insightful doctor to test you for that! I know you will get lots of good advice and feedback here. Gina
  18. You can now buy Envirokids cereals at BJs (very reasonably priced) in a 3 pack with Koala Krisp, Gorilla Munch Crunch, and Peanut Butter Panda Puffs. Those are a hit at our house.
  19. I hear ya! I have been through this with my 10 year son coming up on 2 years now. We had constant issues at his old school (right down to the teacher having him make playdough with flour at his desk!). Then we switched schools this year, and I had all the hopes it was going to be better. We sat down with all his teachers, principal, vice principal, and...
  20. I have to agree. Even though just me and my son are gluten free, my husband and daughter share our gluten free household without protest. They eat gluten at school and work. Not at home. Too many risks involved. No one really seems to mind.
  21. I found a gluten free Sublingual B 12 at Krogers last Friday and began taking it right away. Gosh, I can't believe what a big difference it has made for me. I'm kind of embarassed that I didn't realize I was missing something sooner. Thanks guys! Gina
  22. I am jealous as well! What I wouldn't do for a local celiac friend!!!!!! Oh, who am I kidding - what I wouldn't do for a good regular friend. Real friends are hard to come by.
  23. Everyone is different as far as symptoms and how long. For me the stomach pain will subside in a few days, then the brain fog, fatigue, and irritability last a painfully long 2 weeks. Hope you feel better soon. Gina
  24. Thanks guys - that is very helpful! Gina
  25. So I've been reading for a lot time that a lot of us do better with B supplements, but when I went to check them out, I relized there are a ton of different ones. I wasn't sure what to pick and I was afraid of over dosing myself. Can someone help me out here? B12, Sublingual B, B complex? Thanks. Gina
