  1. Annick Thanks so much! That helps a ton. Whew. Gina
  2. I have a business trip next week to The Woodlands, TX. I have never been there before, but every time I go on a business trip I come back glutened. Anybody know of any stores that carry gluten-free products or restaurants in that area? I'm not sure how big an area that is and I don't want to get lost. Thanks for any help. Gina
  3. My son had a rash/acne on his face since he first started oatmeal cereal as a baby. It started clearing up immediately after going gluten free, but it took 2 years to clear up completely. Now he is spotless.
  4. Thanks Rhonda, I checked it out and it looks like Virginia is a bit "easier" than NY. Good for me - sorry. I checked out the VA homeschooling website and there happens to be a conference next Saturday. The whole family is going. My kids are 8 and 10. It is my 10 year old that is celiac. I worry every day about cross contamination. And I see it...
  5. Thanks Andrea, I was really excited about the possibilities...then I got worried that I would be holding my kids back. Now I'm back to excited again.
  6. My husband and I are considering homeschooling for the 2008 school year. We figured we had a whole year to check into it and think about it, but it looks overwhelming. Do any of you homeschool? Specifically anyone in Virginia?
  7. That's great! I hope Alex had a very happy birthday, and I applaud you for being so thoughtful for her. Every year my husband makes me a gluten free birthday cake. Sometimes he has to make 2 because he ruins the first one. But he never gives up, and I always have a very special birthday.
  8. Hi Nan: I know there is a huge range of symptoms, but I have never experienced anything like that. I used to get bone pain in my arms and cramping in my feet and hands pre-diagnosis. I hope you feel better. Gina
  9. We love the apple raisin walnut. My son is more sensitive than I am and neither one of us has ever had a reaction. I would love to find the cranberry one. The extreme fruit & nut is not bad -but it has huge pieces of dried fruit that get a bit on the tough side.
  10. Kimw/4, I really appreciate you saying that. That's so right on - like you feel like you are wrong in saying it if you don't have the golden "certificate." I never realized it until you said it. But I definitely feel guilty at times.
  11. It doesn't take much to make you feel bad. How many times have I kicked myself saying "why did I let my guard down?" Live and learn I guess.
  12. Sounds like you have a really understanding doctor who actually listens. Welcome back! Gina
  13. For just plain old spaghetti, my family's favorite is Mrs. Leepers corn spaghetti. It has a nice consistency without getting mushy. But I have yet to find a pasta that works when reheated. Glutino makes these smaller noodles (also corn) that look like egg noodles. Those worked really well when making a "hamburger helper" type casserole.
  14. I am sorry for all the unresolved issues you are trudging through. My son and I both stopped short of the final diagnosis (the biopsy) with the understanding that we just needed to change our diets for the betterment of our lives and those around us. My son's doctor even said when I cried in his office over the testing, "no matter what the results might...
  15. Geez Rusula, that's terrible. But, yeah, it makes me feel better. Thanks
  16. The last time I checked, plain and peanut M&M's, 3 Musketeers, Milkyway Dark, Snickers, Butterfingers, Dove Promises were all gluten free.
  17. Kalila, That is such a big question. I know many of us would be glad to help. Can you narrow it down a little? Recipes? Chocolates? Dos and Dont's?
  18. I use Pacific Foods. They say gluten free on the carton. They have delicious tomato soup in the carton, too.
  19. Funny - and good point. I'm taking all the training I can get. Also signed up for recruitment training. And my boss always said he was tranferring after his youngest graduated from hs. That just happened!
  20. Thanks Mango - I thought there for a while I would just quit and take anything. But I will keep smiling and doing my job and look for the next bright spot - ah if I knew in college what I know now
  21. kat, that is so how it has been with me. People even said I was the only one in the office the boss liked...8 years of the good life. You're right - I have to do what's best for me and my family. I will stick it out here and continue my daily search. And Carla, you are right - I'll try to approach it gracefully during my review.
  22. You are right, Carla. He has been known for that sort of thing (before I started here - but I still heard all the dirt). I think he is probably trying extra hard to make sure it doesn't look like that again.
  23. Well, I do like lattes I'll wait until my review to talk to him (in a couple weeks). He is just so grouchy and intimidating that most everyone here is afraid to approach him. I hate to poke the bear in the cage.
  24. Those are good ideas - But I'm the HR rep. And to transfer would mean moving. I thought about talking to my boss right away...but he is very moody and is one of those people that - you know - he's always right and blocks everything else out. Right now my plan is just to get all the training I can (signed up for some more SAP training) and keep looking...
  25. Pasta is a good idea, but it may take some trial and error to find the kind you like. I think the general consensus on the board is Tinkyada brand is the best. But my family really likes Mrs. Leepers corn spaghetti. We stick with the whole foods mostly (fruits & veges & meat) but my kids like tuna salad, chicken salad, and egg salad (kraft mayo...
