I sobbed at my daughter's kindergarten graduation. In fact, I'm getting emotional now just thinking about it - and she's going into third grade...and I hit a squirrel on my way to work this morning - so I'm really just in an emotional place right this minute. Sometimes I just really wish we could order a pizza or Chinese take out or something fun and...

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Hives From Gluten?
gdobson replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My son gets hives on his face when he has red food dye. -
ARCHIVED Amusement Parks (six Flags New England)
gdobson replied to bremac's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry I can't help with Six Flags, but after 3 years of trying, I did finally get a list from Busch Gardens Williamsburg if you plan on going there again. -
The only cruise I've ever been on was Disney - but it was fantastic! They were very helpful with gluten free meals right up to having a chef walk the buffet with my son and me. Neither one of us got sick at all on that vacation.

Hi! My son was dx 2 years ago. I had an advantage for him since I had been dx 5 years ago. And anything out there that your daughter really likes, I can guarantee we can come up with some sort of substitute. Baking methods and products have come a long long way in the last 5 years. My first piece of gluten-free bread felt like a dry sponge in my mouth...

ARCHIVED Starbuck's Dulce De Leche
gdobson replied to dionnek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just talked to Starbucks corp. They said the only gluten containing drinks they had were the following "add ins": malt for frappaccino, vanilla bean powder, java chip, egg nog flavor. I asked if their tazo teas in the summer were gluten free b/c I thought I remembered one was not. But this rep said they were all fine. And I asked about the brownie... -
Cool! Thanks - We will definitely check it out!

ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
gdobson replied to Big Baboon's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry for your frustration. So I guess you have to continue to eat gluten until your tests...bummer. When I first mentioned celiac disease to my doctor he about laughed me out of his office. That was about 7 years ago. My son and I are both celiac...and living gluten free and much more comfortable. Your symptoms sound all too familiar, right down... -
ARCHIVED Allergy/intollerance Detection Food Diary
gdobson replied to super-sally888's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey Sally, I've had to do that for me and my son. But of course, the more complicated things are, the less likely you are to stick with them. I know you don't want to do it this way, but I just used a steno pad and one page for each day: Breakfast, blah blah blah, Lunch blah blah blah...you know. On a high note, it kept me from eating too much since... -
We are going to Baltimore next month for the Celiac 5k. Can anyone suggest any place to eat dinner?

ARCHIVED Packing Lunches For School For Picky Eaters
gdobson replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gabriella, I have the same anxiety in the grocery store. Sometimes I feel my eyes glaze over and my ears burning as I pick up product after product. I have been gluten-free since 2001, and my son (9) has been gluten-free for 2 years now. But I think things are getting better. It used to be no one knew what the heck I was talking about. And if I wanted... -
ARCHIVED Lay's Kc Masterpiece Potato Chips
gdobson replied to miles2go's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good advice. I wish I had read this a week ago, however, before my son and I both got sick on Lays Stacks Ranch flavored. That's what I get when I try to give him something a little different to jazz up his lunch. Now I'm back to not trusting products again. -
ARCHIVED Oracea - Rosacea Treatment
gdobson replied to gdobson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just did the little red veins on the face (tired of wearing make up to hide). Supposed to look good as new in 4 to 5 days. But I would hate to have another rosacea breakout after I heal up and she said the Oracea would be a good one to try if I can. Afraid I don't know the name of the laser. Little pin point laser - I look like I have big black freckles... -
ARCHIVED Family Making Fun Of Us !
gdobson replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My family thinks I am being over-reactive about food. They try to sneak my son things he can't have - as if to prove me wrong. Luckily, my son turns the offers down. He knows what it's like to be sick. And he wants no part of it. I don't make fun of myself or my son, because I don't want to open the door for them to do. I approach it as serious and... -
ARCHIVED Oracea - Rosacea Treatment
gdobson posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey, I just had a long awaited laser surgery to get rid of the nasty red veins from rosacea today, and now my dermatologist wants me to take Oracea (Collagenex new low dosage doxycycline). I called Callagenex to see if it was gluten-free, and got the usual answer of "we can't guarantee..blah...blah...blah...blah" Now I'm scared to take it. Has anyone... -
I miss being able to go into any restaurant and looking at the menu and saying, "hmmm, I've never had that before. I think I'll try that," and not having to wonder or care what was in it. I also miss Pizza Treats!!!! And my memory of those Hostess Cupcakes and Snowballs - definitely Snowballs. I know it sounds way weird, but I just want to touch one...

I would be way skeptical about Paneras. I did however, recently receive a gift card from there and contacted them to see if they had anything I could eat. I have been too chicken to try, but here is their response: **Although we do our very best to meet your special requirements, we cannot rule out the possibility of cross contact between these items...

My reaction is within a few hours as well...and then lasts about 2 weeks.

ARCHIVED Green's Gluten Free Beer
gdobson replied to Daxin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Groovy, I'll have to look for it. It doesn't sound very "beer like" though. One of these days I hope to find something that tastes like my faint memory of Miller Genuine Draft. (sigh) Thanks. Gina -
ARCHIVED Anyone Had Trouble With Spouse Supporting?
gdobson replied to aprilh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My husband was skeptical when it came to my "environmental" allergies. I had been getting shots for years. He thought it was a sign of weakness. So when I had to change my diet he just let me thinking it was some silly woman thing. But then he saw the huge change in me. Then I fell off the wagon (only once in 5 years mind you) but I ate some sugar cookies... -
ARCHIVED Green's Gluten Free Beer
gdobson replied to Daxin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I already got a response from Greens beer that was at least encouraging: "Gina, Thank you for your e-mail. Please would you try us again in another months time as we have quite an exciting agreement with an American distributor that is in the early stages of discussion. We feel quite confident that we will soon be able to offer our beers in the... -

ARCHIVED Green's Gluten Free Beer
gdobson replied to Daxin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have sent a request as well. Thanks! I have tried 3 different gluten free beers, but they are all terribly hard to come by in Virginia. -
Does anyone know if Tropical Smoothie Cafe is safe (as far as their smoothies are concerned anyway)?

ARCHIVED New To Celiac...now What?
gdobson replied to Irishgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I totally agree. I have been Gluten Free for 5 years. And I have relatively no cravings for stuff I can't have. And I have been able to find substitutes for the things I really want (I have a blueberry coffeecake recipe people have been known to arm wrestle for). At first I remember the foods seem to taste different (aftertaste and texture), but...
