  1. Hi Margaret, Here is a link to my family's absolute favorite thing. It's Blueberry lemon coffeecake that you would never know was gluten-free. I make it just like the recipe, except I double the topping - my husband likes that part. Open Original Shared Link I also recommend going to allrecipes.com and typing in gluten free to the search. A lot...
  2. OK, I love lima beans and chickpeas and lintels. But I have a hard time with the meat - are we allowed canned tuna or does it have to be like beef? I do have some ground beef in the freezer I could do. And Dairy - hate milk. Is cheese or cottage cheese allowed? Any ideas with any of that? I'm a mess. I like roasted veggies drizzled w/ olive oil...
  3. OK, I'm excited. But I'm a huge diet screw up because I always end up starving myself. And I think I already screwed up today. I'm looking at my desk and I see my Diet coke, decaf herbal tea, bottle of water, and the gluten free/lactose free slimfast I had for breakfast and 1 for lunch - so I ruined today. Any suggestions on how I can do dinner right...
  4. Thanks! I'm in, but I just read up about Phase I and it says NO ALCOHOL at all. As of Saturday, I am starting a vacation with wine tasting and all that implies. I guess it would be a waste of time to do it this week and blow it next week?
  5. RSM, I have seen them, too. I don't know about anyone else, but I would be scared to death to eat them myself. And I sure wouldn't give them to my son. I'ld be curious to know if anyone else has tried or would try -
  6. Wait! Don't leave me out. I confess I don't know much about the South Beach Diet, but I'ld like to give it a try. I keep looking for diet/exercise buddies, but I never have any luck! Can I do it, too?
  7. The last time I talked to Skittles manufacturer on the phone, they told me all Skittles were gluten-free except for the mint ones. I would go with the Altoids, although I hear some sizes of them are not gluten-free. They are labeled, though.
  8. Hi Natalie: I am so sorry you had that experience. I don't think deep down they meant to hurt yours or your daughters feelings. But you're right - they shouldn't have been so sneaky. My family is not very good at those things either. It usually just ends up with them insisting a little bit won't hurt... But birthdays are special no matter how old...
  9. Hey Ryan, Agitation is actually one of my son's biggest and most problematic systems. It lasts a couple weeks for him where as the stomachache is gone in a couple days. He just seems to be so angry I can only think to compare it to severe PMS (not sure that helps you relate). Mad at the world because he feels so miserable. But I would have to say...
  10. Kbabe, Can you please sure your donut recipe with me? Gina
  11. Tom, That's good to know. I wonder if PF Change in Virginia Beach would be as good? I'll have to check it out. Thanks! Gina
  12. Hey Richard, We have passes too. Enjoy the new "Griffon" before you have turkey legs, BBQ chicken, and Redbridge! Gina
  13. Very cool. It took me 3 years of trying to get that list. So if you don't get a response before you need it, let me know and I'll send you what they sent me.
  14. Guess what I did today? I went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg with the family and I couldn't believe it when I saw RedBridge beer behind the counter! I was so excited. It was before the counter opened, so I sat near enough that I could see when it opened, and as soon as that sign turned to open - I was the first customer. And I had a beer with my turkey...
  15. Hey Paula, I bought a big pack of fresh chicken wings from Kroger and when I got home to cook them, my husband noticed the added broth and flavors. We started to call Krogers, but we noticed somewhere on the package real small that it said gluten free. Did you buy them over in the butcher area or out of the freezer? If you got them in the fresh meat...
  16. I have one Kinnicknick donut every Friday - it's my end of the week treat. However, one of the vendors at the celiac 5k in Baltimore last month was Celiac Specialties, and they had these donut holes out for sampling that were....well, they made those donuts seem like pound cake. They had blueberry, chocolate, glazed, powder sugar...and they were soft and...
  17. Don't worry, Mattj. I had the redness from years of rosacea (which for some reason, a lot of us seem to have). After the laser surgery and using the facial washes I was prescribed, I don't have to wear make up anymore and try to hide bumpy red areas.
  18. It is exciting when you start to feel better - and you didn't realize how bad you really felt until it starts to go away. I had things go away I didn't even know were related to gluten (bone pain, mouth ulcers, etc.) Congrats on feeling better! Enjoy!
  19. That sounds like a very cool trip! I've been to Japan a couple times. But it looks like Thailand should be next on my "places I want to go" list. Thanks Gina
  20. I'm like Mattj - a bit on the vain side. I had laser surgery last year on my face to help with the redness. And I find myself doing the same thing. We went to the Celiac 5k in Baltimore last month and I found myself sizing up folks that I thought looked like celiacs. I usually go with those that are built like me, rather thin and flabby and pale.
  21. Hey Jessica, The way I hear it is people that still have some damage from gluten should avoid vinegar until they are completely healed. The vinegar tends to irritate it. As for dressing, I just can't help it. I don't trust them. I've called and double checked on a number of them. But I go back to the ones marked gluten free. I just tried Nasoya...

    ARCHIVED Dating?

It wouldn't be any big deal to say you were vegetarian or something. I think it's the word "disease" that makes us feel so wierd. I've been married for 8 years, but if I imagine myself dating it plays something like this: Sure I'ld love to go out. But do you mind if I pick the place? I've got some food allergies (that's what I say in my head so I don...
  23. Maybe it's just from the diet change since it has only been a month? I know when you make a big alternation to your diet you frequently have issues like halitosis and dry mouth and of course, the nasty taste in your mouth.
  24. I cheated once. But it was early in my diagnosis and I was depressed and I was thinking maybe it really wasn't that bad. And the gluten-free food choices were no where near as good as they are now (or as available). I bought a roll of that sugar cookie dough and ate a ton of cookies. I was miserable. I cried and cried. Fell back into depression. Nauseau...
  25. I don't know, Kassandra. There are so many ways things can sneak into your system...toaster, oven racks, I've heard dishwasher and dishtowel. Is your house gluten free? I find that's the safest way. How about eating out? My son kept reacting to something we couldn't figure out and had to return to the old food diary method. It turned out he was having...
