  1. just to add - i never eat out. i have a few times, and got contaminated every time. i waited a bit, then went to a restaurant owned by a celiac, and she gave me my lunch. i felt a little weird, and asked her if i could see the ingredients in something (in case i was reacting to something else) and blatantly it said, "wheat gluten". since then, i've not trusted...
  2. If you are travelling outside of there at all to the close quarters in the area, there are many places, also. There is a really good fresh fish place called Betty's in Chippawa. They are VERY familiar with gluten-free. There is an Outback right near the casino. In St. Catharines, there is the most wonderful place in Port Dalhousie called Spice of Life. That...
  3. whole foods 365 brand makes one in a can.
  4. silk soymilk makes a creamer. my mom loves it.
  5. you can always start up your own group, too, if there isn't one in your area.
  6. i also wanted to welcome you, as a fellow canadian. i cannot offer much more than the others say, other than that if you do want an official diagnosis, you'll want to stay on gluten.
  7. i stick mostly to natural foods (produce), but i love almond and cashew butter (marantha brand), all natural peanut butter (my store brand, crunchy), as well as mori-nu tofu. i keep rainforest organic ginger curry sauce and bragg's liquid aminos on hand for quick sauces if i am rushing - they are very tasty.

    ARCHIVED Pulsing

i see 'gas' moving in my stomach constantly. i eat a lot of vegetables. it's amusing. could it be gas?
  9. I've also never had issues with amaranth - it's my favourite grain and flour to use.
  10. Hello - Niagara Falls, ON and NY are both chock full. Which side are you staying on? I live in Niagara, so I can recommend you anything you're interested in.
  11. Yes! I completely relate. I was studying to become an RD when I got sick, and it made me want it even more. I just want to help people. I was so ill at the beginning, I was forced to change my whole outlook on the world. I started my website, my sister and I are going into a bakery business together, and I am doing everything I can. I could go on, but everyone...
  12. sorry - i googled it for the original poster. i'll edit my post. thanks ekatherine.
  13. hi.. canadians. some brands are - are you looking at a certain kind?
  14. what is the dressing brand and flavour?
  15. i use quinoa flakes for oats
  16. couldn't have used a better phrase!
  17. all of the frapps, even if made with soymilk, still have casein in the base.
  18. maybe you have mono - i'd go to the doctor. i had mono and my only symptom was swollen glands at first, so i got tested just to see. it came back positive, and i was 'fine', but one week later had full fledged mono (on percocet, steroids, an IV and in the hospital), and couldn't do much for about six months. not to freak you out - but just so you know...
  19. how ironic! although yours was much afterwards, after i was diagnosed, i got really, really ill for awhile. i was in and out of the hospital, frustrated, scared, and had about 5 doctor's appointments a week. i could hardly finish school, had to quit my job, et cetera, et cetera. i had a few friends also email me, discussing how 'selfish' i was. at the...
  20. sometimes spices are mixed with wheat startch for ease of pouring... you can ask what company, perhaps, they get their spices from, and then check the source of that.
  21. i am not sure if this is what you are asking, but after i was diagnosed and went gluten free, i was hungry more often, as my body started absorbing and digesting food, finally. however when i was eating gluten, i was starving ALL the time. when i get glutened now, i am too nauseated for anything.
  22. have you been tested for hepatitis?

    ARCHIVED Smell It

lister - before the bakery, i worked in the part of the store that only sold the baked goods... so i was around pre-made stuff without it flying around, and i was still incredibly ill. just a thought. the other things are great suggestions. i actually work for an online company - so even when i'm sick i dont have to get out of my jammies. trust me - everything...
  24. hi sara - this isn't really a response to the period portion, but about the rest. after gluten-free/casein-free i felt better for about a month, then went down. i, too, was dizzy (SO dizzy!) after eating anything, et cetera... it sounds like you. i was sick often, and couldn't pin point. i ended up figuring about ten things i could safely eat, and...

    ARCHIVED Smell It

i worked in a bakery and had to quit, and at the time, i was also a student. it was a difficult decision, but i was in and out of the hospital after work because i was getting so ill. it was not worth it; i would look for another job as soon as possible.
