  1. Let's see...I'm guessing they don't want nut products bc of other allergies in a school setting.... If they have access to refrigeration --- String Cheese, yogurt, popsicles, jello, pudding OR: dried fruit gummi bears starburst popcorn snack size bags of fritos, chips, cool ranch doritoes craisins, raisins, yogurt covered or plain Dora's Cinnamon...
  2. I have just discovered DiBartolo's bakery in Collingswood NJ makes gluten-free items. For a recent event, my mom wanted to serve a cake that I can eat - to about 25 guests. We taste tested the gluten free cupcakes first -- or should I say devoured! AND we ordered a cake for the occasion b/c the cupcakes were so good. I'm craving more already...
  3. There is a Lemon Butter Chicken recipe -- I think I found it on Allrecipes.com --- that is easy, quick, and makes a delicious sauce for over rice..... You can do a recipe search on www.allrecipes.com and find the one I'm talking about - or search for ingredients you can have in recipes they have posted. The recipe I'm thinking of uses: Lemon Pepper...
  4. I am a teacher, too. The advice others have shared is great! You may also want to contact the cafeteria manager in the school to discuss if ANY options in the cafe would be safe in case there's a forgotten lunch or desparate desire to be a "buyer" --- if that applies to your school. Also, if the school has a guidance counselor the can serve as a...
  5. Update: Six weeks later, Nathaniel is doing beautifully! He is almost 5lb and it seems like he will be home from NICU within the next 10 days. He struggled a bit with food --- they were fortifying it to give him more calories and he had a bad reaction to the fortifier (need to remember to check the ingredients on that....), but once they stopped...
  6. They've recently started adding things (cookies?) to some of their frosty's...maybe it's a cc thing now that other ingredients are in the mix...so to speak.
  7. Nathaniel Scott made a VERY unexpected early arrival on June 15 at 7:10pm. He was 8 weeks premature!! He was 2 lb and 12 oz but a whopping 17" long!! He's doing very well in the NICU - breathing on his own and being a truly feisty little trooper! Looks like he will stay with them until close to his original due date. I was finally able to come home...
  8. I live near Sesame. . I haven't tried to go to the park since gluten-free, but there are some restaurants right nearby that can accommodate the diet if you want to branch out from the park itself. Behind the park is the Oxford Valley Mall - all of these restaurants are in the "circle" surrounding the mall. Chili's is across the street. Red Robin, Cheeburger...
  9. I like Nut Thins (Almond) , the Crunchmaster ones from Sam's, and glutino crackers. If it's just for texture and not for spreading, Schar's has "breadsticks" which are thin, long crackery sticks that I crumble into soups and/or dip into pizza sauce.
  10. My mom made "Holiday Chicken Salad" from allrecipes.com this weekend. She added grapes. Delish!!!!
  11. Pizza Bake cook up about 1/2 bag of tinkyada brown a pkg of jimmy dean sausage while those cook up -- chop up some pepperoni, green peppers throw it all in a 9x13 pan with minced garlic, red pepper flakes, italian cheese, and a jar of pizza sauce cover and bake 25 or 30 min. (GREAT leftovers!!!!)
  12. With baby #1 arriving in August, I'd like to spend some time in July portioning out meals and freezing them to have "at the ready" for what I expect will be a hectic month of adjusting to our new routines. I'm already planning on making a lasagna, but would love other ideas - especially if they could be reheated quickly/easily. I'd prefer to have meals...
  13. Make "fang" snacks. .. apple wedges coated in pb with pieces of minimarshmallow as "teeth" Anything on toothpicks is fun to eat -- veggies? meats? cheeses? try www.familyfun.com --- they always have cute, easy, and fun recipes for holidays and parties. . . Sounds like fun! Enjoy your planning!
  14. About 4 months ago I had this exact same craving. Joan's great bakes came to the rescue! English muffin pizzas and bagels?! My celiac dreams have been answered! Only drawback is Joan's bagels cook in oven. . by the time my oven heats up and the bagel cooks, I'm looking at a 1/2 hour breakfast, which just isn't practical given my love of the snooze...
  15. We are twenty-three weeks pregnant with our first - a baby boy! We have wanted this for so long, now that the reality is sinking in I'm realizing I have many questions about logistics. . . who better to ask than all you folks here?! I'm undecided on breast feeding, as of yet, and I realize that a lot of these questions won't even come into play until...
  16. Hormel "naturals" deli meats are labeled gluten free. Tunafish or tuna salad Hatfield Ham Slices, cut up into "finger food" Hormel pepperoni with some cheese? hard boiled eggs?
  17. It's become a ritual on the rare occasion that my husband has a beer - upon opening it (or having it delivered to our table) he automatically passes it to me, so I can get a good whiff! It definitely tricks my mind for a little while. I admit, I've also secretly sniffed his full-of-gluten sandwich rolls and donuts without his knowledge! Sniff away...
  18. I recommend Sazon for lunch - staff has a lot of knowledge and will help you quite a bit. Chart House at Penn's landing will also be helpful. Higher end meals --- any Stephen Starr restaurants will be great in "coaching" you through an order....Tangerine (Market and 2nd) is yummy!!!! If you google Stephen Starr, you'll see he has tons of places in...
  19. Everything sounds great! I love 7-layer dip too!!! Pizza Dip? Tell me more.....=)
  20. Thought we could share ideas for the big game.... We'll be throwing together.... Either Pizza Pasta Bake, Potato Flake Chicken, or Turkey Chili (can't decide) Original Chex Mix (with Rice Chex, Glutino Pretzels, and skipping the bagel chips) Buffalo Chicken Dip with Tostitos and Celery and I'm contemplating a recipe I just came across for a...
  21. Ha! And all this time I've eaten ziti without turning bright red..... Thanks for all of your suggestions. I figured it would work, but just wanted a vote of confidence. Thanks!
  22. I have a great lasagna recipe, and wanted to throw one together for our Superbowl party this weekend, but gluten-free lasagna noodles are difficult for me to find and I'm really pressed for time this week. I don't have any on hand. What I do have is a TON of tinkyada rotini-style pata. Would it work if I did more of a casserole style meal and used these...
  23. We, too, buy Bell and Evans... but we also coat tenders at home with a recipe I found here on the site...It's been so long I can't remember who posted it... maybe I found it on allrecipes.com. Hmmm...now I can't remember at all, I kind of wing the measurements Dip in butter and then coat with instant potato flakes mixed with garlic salt and pepper...
  24. I agree --- Coffee house = primarily beverages (coffee/tea) and light snacks (pastries, muffins, etc.) ---- Cafe = small outdoor seating area, sandwiches, soups, salads, and of course coffee, too.
  25. I started a thread the other day on bagels, before I saw this one..... I just had my first bagel from Joan's gluten-free Great Bakes, and I have to say it definitely resolved my craving for a great bagel! Shipping was $$$, so I'm trying to find a store nearby that carries them (Nearest I see on the list is a 40 minute drive from here)...... It did...
