Without a lot of free time for experimenting with baking...I have found them a wonderful treat for special... -

ARCHIVED Fun Things To Make For Easter For Kids
amybeth replied to Green12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Maybe the "flower pots" with the lollipops could be "planted" in brownies. They would look like dirt and could be cut into a round shape with a simple cookie cutter. Anyone have an idea for the licorice "handle" of the easter baskets? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Looking For Gluten-free Kid-friendly Restaurants
amybeth replied to Truleesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If you're in NOVA try Five Guys Burgers. Their Fries are gluten-free and you can order a bunless burger. It comes wrapped in foil. Yummy but messy. -- and their burgers don't seem as greasy as other fast food places..... Chick Fil A also should have gluten-free fries -- and you can get Grilled Chicken sandwich - minus the bun - with their ranch dressing... -
ARCHIVED Namaste Muffin Mix- Add Ins
amybeth replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just found this mix at my store. I made them with chocolate chips and some cinnamon sugar on top. They were good, but it seemed like without my mix-ins they would be more biscuit-like....I couldn't tell how sweet they would be without the chocolate. Has anyone used these as a "sandwich" biscuit instead of a muffin? I might actually use that for... -

Thank you all for your feedback! After a phonecall to the doctor - and a reminder that I have celiac, he agreed that I should take a higher dosage, although I'm still not sure that it's high enough given the level of my deficiency. I have a phone call in and an up-coming appointment scheduled with my GI to get his take on the low Vit D........I've been...

Thank you, thank you ! We would like to conceive, so I'm hoping to resolve ASAP. Doc wants me to take 400 units/day for 2 months and then retest. The prenatal I had purchased a while back has that much D in it, it turns out, so I'm going to take that now. Also getting appts with GI and follow-up with GP to make sure that 400 will do the trick. ...

I've just gotten back bloodwork that shows I am Vitamin D deficient. The doc wants me to take supplemental vitamins for a couple of months and then re-test my levels. Is anyone taking or aware of a Vitamin D pill that is gluten-free? I am also looking for items to add into my diet that will help improve my Vit D. Not sure what's causing the...

I think I'm actually ready for the holiday, but I'm certain I'm forgetting something! All you central PA folk, I grew up in Mechanicsburg and your posts have brought back a flood of memories! At the time, it was a wonderful family-oriented neighborhood and we seemed to always have at least SOME snow at Christmas time. This year has certainly flown... -

ARCHIVED Ideas For A Gluten-free Tea Party
amybeth replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is a relatively easy chocolate fondue type dip (I think I found it on allrecipes.com). It calls for packaged chocolate frosting and sour cream. It's great dipped with fruits, glutino pretzels, marshmallows (and really what ISN"T good dipped in chocolate). Finger food is GREAT for tea parties. You could also do veggies pieces on toothpicks... -
I'm sure they would/could do a pie w/out cheese, if necessary. Some of them are not your typical pie - for example they top one crust with Greek Salad - YUMMY (but that one doesn't re-heat so well). ARCHIVED School Carnival Nightmare
amybeth replied to zarfkitty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As a teacher, if this happened in my school, I would freak! I think you were definitely in the right to make them aware of the problem - but even still they may not realize the seriousness. Depending on who planned/coordinated the event, I would CC my letter to the principal, the nurse, the PTO/PTA or other parent group, school volunteers and the...
