  1. I'M GUILTY! I know it's celiac, but celiacs just sounds better to me. Now that I know it's a pet peeve, I'll try to stop doing it........I have many pet peeves that are word related, so I understand the frustration. (like when people say pacific instead of specific -argh!)
  2. Somone just posted that Ghiradelli chocolates are gluten-free - the company response was pretty thorough, too. Can't remember which category had the thread. Maybe they have a valentine's assortment out there? I'll try to check it out when I hit the grocery this week.
  3. My grandmother lives in a small town in Massachusetts, but we drive through Fall River to get there! I'm SO excited. We're not visiting until summer, but I'm already salivating. Thanks so much for sharing!
  4. It certainly seems that there is a tie in, although no one in my immediate family (siblings and parents) tested positive. At my doctor's suggestion, they were all tested within 2 years of my diagnosis. Although, my father did have slightly raised levels when he was tested. I believe he may have an intolerance to wheat but not full-blown celiacs...
  5. If you roadtrip to Doylestown PM me. Jules is great! They also sell gluten-free dessert items at the counter (prepackaged stuff - so their extra safe!) I'd meet you there.
  6. What's even weirder - is one day I came out of the mall to find a "support our troops" magnet ON my car that wasn't there when I went in...... I thought I had confused my car with another one in the parking lot -at first. I guess I kind of did steal that, though, because I kept the magnet. As a prank, my college roommate walked out of someone...
  7. Went to Tangerine a few weeks back. They were SO helpful! Made a note on the reservation, so the server approached me instead of me having to go through the whole explanation. She went through the menu with me, made at least 6 runs to the kitchen to double check ingredients for me, and my meal was WONDERFUL! Now, Tangerine is not cheap...
  8. HA! That's funny. A scavenger hunt didn't even occur to me. I foresee a new thread - what bizarre and weird items should be included if you are creating the most creative scavenger hunt ever.......... I competed in one once, and the weirdest item by far on the list was a Left Foot Toe Sock....you know, those socks that have toe spots...
  9. It's sometimes funny to me - the bizarre things that people will take from someone else.....or what they won't take... For example. My sister's car was broken into years ago. They took her fall jacket but left some cash she had on her dashboard there........ Also, years ago, my apartment was robbed - but all they took was my clothing....they walked...
  10. Breyers ice cream --- "Take Two" variety with orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream ---- AND the Peanut Butter Tracks flavor. (Edited to emphasize: NOT TOGETHER IN THE SAME BOWL - ICK!) Granny smith apples and grapes with slices of cheddar cheese (a nice glass of white wine makes it even better!) glutino pretzels - I believe I'm heavily addicted. ...
  11. I recently tried Woodchuck's "Dark and Dry" variety - apparently it only comes in a variety pack, of sorts. I love the "Amber", but this new one blew me away - YUM! Pear is good. I haven't tried raspeberry yet. Strongbow also gluten-free and a little less sweet tasting than Woodchuck - kind of a more clean, crisp taste. A new restaurant down...
  12. I usually prefer their dance sequences on Scrubs - but I think the poo song takes the cake!
  13. Outback, Bonefish Grille, PF Changs all have US maps where you can check for locations. Have fun!
  14. You are lucky they were so willing to try! It jsut seems like you are going to find yourself telling lie after lie - trying to remember what you said last time, etc. I don't know how long you have been on the diet, but you could try the approach that you are still learning about cross contamination issues - like wooden spoons, colanders, hidden...
  15. AutumnE - Please let us know if the Kraft Caramels and Butter Flavoring actually turn out gluten-free - and how the recipe goes. They sound good! Thanks.
  16. Jimmy Dean Breakfast Sausages are gluten-free and Purdue makes chicken strips that are precooked and packaged for salads, etc. Not all of the varieties, but some of them are gluten-free. I realize they're not homemade -but they are alternatives in a pinch. It's easy to get in an eating rut and get tired of things! I often just bake some chicken...
  17. I haven't had a problem with them - but I did almost buy an item that I thought was gluten-free from them but was not. Sorry you aren't feeling well. I have had problems with Amy's in the past - to the point that I just stopped eating any of her products all together - but with cross contamination in even small amounts I tend to get sick. No probs...
  18. I love this post! What an opportunity!!! I agree with almost everyone that Knowledge is Power. If the waitstaff/hosts/cooks/managers have knowledge, I will instantly feel safer. That knowledge should definitely include -- the hidden glutens -- what pre-packaged items do you get from corporate with preservatives, marinades, etc. how are...
  19. If you like Lemon and Chicken - this is a great, easy, recipe that is my new favorite --- Open Original Shared Link I use McCormick Spices, Purdue chicken tenderloins, Instant Minute Rice, and a NON-wooden cutting board to trim the chicken. It's literally a mix and bake recipe. Nothing too fancy, but the lemony goodness is great! I use the extra...
  20. I'm pretty much a "lighter" case, in comparison. Within no more than 20 minutes of ingesting gluten, I will have extremely urgent D (really inconvenient if I'm eating out!). Then, I feel physically drained (no pun intended) for the rest of the day - lack of energy, exhausted, totally wiped out. It almost feels like I'm instantly depressed. That could...
  21. I have been reading old posts about school lunches, etc. As a teacher in a public school in Pennsylvania, I thought this might be helpful to someone. A student in US public schools who has special needs that do not qualify for "Special Education" can get a legal document created that outlines those specific needs. It's called a 504 plan. I have...
  22. Our pup was originally part of the Seeing Eye program. She was later rejected from the training program (too scared of everything), so we adopted her. Because they're working dogs, the S.E. program asks you not to give the dogs "people food". I guess they don't want the dog to be tempted by a great steak in a restaurant if he is working and supposed...
  23. Would love to know when the meetings in Langhorne are.....I'm ten minutes from there.
  24. I've had it - and it's fine. Makes a great dip mixed with sour cream with UTZ potato chips (Say gluten-free right on the label). Also really good baked into hamburger, or baked with potato wedges in the oven. Yum!
  25. I don't know about gumdrops, but I've had M&M's without any noticeable problems - mint, plain, and peanut.....Anyone else?
