Big Bear Nat'l Foods in Morrisville, PA - the store I frequent - has just started carrying Gillians rolls. I'm so excited because so many of you seem to enjoy them. But I'm not very creative....and all I can think of is using it as a typical sandwich roll...... Have any of you gotten creative with your rolls? I think someone posted that they make...

ARCHIVED Mushrooms
amybeth replied to elisabet's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I definitely - and consistently react to mushrooms. But I never thought it'd be related to celiac disease. I just avoid them. Sounds like it varies from person to person - interesting, though. -
ARCHIVED Hard Candy
amybeth replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think "Nips" are gluten-free. They're in boxes and come in a couple flavors - caramel, chocolate. It's been a long time since I had them, but if I remember correctly I had no reactions. Please double check me! -
ARCHIVED Purfoods Meals?
amybeth posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
At the beginning of the school year, I am usually swamped with work. This year, I am finishing up a graduate course and planning a wedding at the same time! I was thinking about ordering some gluten-free meals that would require little of my time. I came across Purfoods through a google search. Has anyone used them? Is it worth the money? (if you... -

amybeth replied to KrisT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm a person who likes to understand everything and wants to have the answer. Is this the reason why you are seeking a specific diagnosis? You mentioned you have already started eating gluten free. Do you feel a bit better? Have your symptoms lessened? (one week may not be enough time to tell this) I know of several individuals who have gone on... -

ARCHIVED Going Crazy And Becoming Bored Of Gluten Free Food
amybeth replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My Acme supermarket recently started carrying Tinkyada! I was shocked to see it there on the shelf! - I usually bought it at a health food store....Acme even has it on "special" right now -- (the spaghetti style) -- so it's not too $$$$. Maybe your grocery store might start carrying it. At most stores you can submit requests to customer service and they... -
ARCHIVED After Three Years, I Need Some Outside Help
amybeth replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is a thread that I recently started in the eating/dining out forum about restaurants in Philly. In Doylestown, PA (Bucks County) there is a "Jules thin crust pizza" --- they are slowly expanding in this area. They have gluten-free pizza that is GOOD! It's a low key, casual place, but a pizza runs about $15. They also have gluten-free brownies... -

amybeth replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After begin gluten-free for about a year, I was able to wean myself off of medications for generalized anxiety disorder......Might be totally unrelated to gluten.....other aspects of my life changed drastically as well.......but might be a gluten tie-in. Find myself MUCH less irritable since going gluten-free. My temper has also lessened and is MUCH... -
I have a senstitivity to nickel, also --- just got my ears pierced and was concerned about finding only 14K gold posts or stainless steel posts...... the saleswoman suggested putting a thin coat of clear nail polish on the posts and then if there is any nickel in them, it would be like a sealant to protect my skin. she indicated that she has done...

ARCHIVED Bugaboo Creek Steak House
amybeth replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I tried it! There are several items on the menu that "we" can eat. I had BBQ Chicken Nachos --- SO flavorful!!! I cannot remember having anything with that much taste in a long time........ I felt "iffy" afterward, but I honestly believe that it was just the sweetness of the food - I think it shocked my system. I've been eating more spicy than... -

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And Learning
amybeth replied to Mickey06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
it may be that his system is so compromised that veggies that are difficult to digest - or dairy products might be giving him a hard time right now. the plainer the better is probably the best bet for right now....skip out on condiments and go with the basics - bananas, applesauce, some boullion(sp?) broth.......[herb ox is gluten-free] good luck! -
If you're feeling up to the challenge.....I have ordered at Applebees and met with success. Once. I spoke to the manager. I ordered a steak salad with a looooong list of requests. BUT when I went back - my luck was not the same. I have decided it's not worth the risk. Red Robin on the other hand has been very helpful. Limited options, but they're...

ARCHIVED How To Handle The Ups And Downs?
amybeth replied to Stacie H.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The ups and downs will continue for a while. The first time I hit the grocery store after going gluten-free, I read and read labels (I was there for 2 hours). I ended up crying in the middle of the aisle and all I had in my cart was some rice cakes and some ketchup. That was a low point. However, Later, I went to Bonefish Grille to eat with my family... -

Is that the corn pasta? If so, it's REALLY good. My non-gluten-free fiance' now requests that instead of tinkyada, although he'll eat both with me. -
We are planning a 2-3 day trip to the Hershey area, and I'm wondering if there are any "safe" eating spots both in the park or in the surrounding area. We're probably going to hit the Botanical Gardens, the amusement park and maybe Indian Echo Caverns. Just a brief getaway. Thanks!
