  1. [(usually my left one that is most bothersome, kind of weird that it is not symmetrical). Anyway, nice to know that I wasn't the only one with these odder symptoms. Here's an ignorant question - what is fibromyalgia? Is that related to your celiac disease? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  2. I've resigned myself to it. I don't eat out much, not worth the worry and hassle. Decline lunch invites, eat at my desk, don't bother to explain anymore. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt that maybe they're just trying to be helpful and want to understand, but I'm tired of explaining it so I just don't. It's just a fact of my life and has...
  3. That's great!!! Job well done!
  4. I love this forum because now I KNOW I'm not crazy! (had a CT of my head not too long ago. It was normal. My husband wants a 2nd opinion ) Anyhow, I can't eat raw egg yolks, but cooked solid I can. Albumin hasn't ever bothered me, or at least not that I noticed. I absolutely cannot have chicken fat. Period. But white chicken meat is no problem. I know...
  5. [ Are there other words for 'gluten' that I should be looking for? Tiffany <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  6. Way, way too risky.
  7. You're allowed to say anything you want here. ( Except the s**t word which automatically gets transposed to poop) If your doc hasn't seen celiac disease in 30 years I doubt he's been looking very hard. 1 out of 133 is est. to have it now.
  8. I think I read somewhere that there is a connection. My teeth shifted some after developing celiac disease. All those high school years in braces and now not much to show for it!
  9. I'm the only one in my immediate family and don't know of any aunts, uncles, grands or cuz that have it. But it's probably from my mother's side (100% Swede and as stubborn as they come)
  10. Hon, you are not a loser because you cry and have moods. I remember being soooo angry over celiac disease. I loved to bake, Christmas and Thanksgiving were my favorite times of the year because I would bake pies, and stuffing and cookies, ohmy! It does get easier, your taste buds can still remember vividly the taste, texture and everything else that goes...
  11. I know it won't help you now, but on nights that my brain won't shut down, I take an OTC (gluten-free of course) antihistimine. Cheap, non-habit forming and works. Dr. Gott (he has a newspaper column) recommends it.
  12. canola oil is gluten free but not always rec for people on a gluten-free diet? I always use canola oil on my son's rice pasta...does anyone have any info regarding canola oil? can I continue to use it..should I avoid it?? Thanks, Kim <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  13. Thanks for writing. Since I've been at this forum I've become bolder in addressing my celiac with drs and talked to the owner of our one and only health food store. The gluten-free offerings have been expanded so I mentioned that I probably am not the only one in the area with celiac disease. I'll probably post something on their bulletin board to start...
  14. hydrogenation is a process to turn oil from liquid form to solid form so plain old hydrogenated vegetable oil is gluten-free.
  15. I get through my depression after accidental gluten ingestion by remembering that it isn't forever. The gluten-free diet will work, but it takes time and everyone responds differently and at different rates. But it will go away. Just go one step at a time, get through and do what you absolutely have to and then rest, relax, restore yourself. Make sure...
  16. I'm so sorry to hear of your crappy dr appt. Why do they forget that they are in the healing profession? And are supposed to help, not hinder? Your body has been through quite a lot, so give it lots of time to get better. I sometimes have problems with stress still. Maybe it's just a by-product of celiac disease. So when I get through with the stress...
  17. My husband uses an electric coffee bean grinder. Real cheap (got it at an auction)
  18. OH for Pete's sake!! Where is his professionalism?!? IBS is just a catch-all dx in my mind. It seems that there are more dx that correspond with pharmaceutical ads than anything else. If the results come back neg, it could be a false neg, but if the results are pos, then you have celiac disease. If they come back neg, you could always try the gluten-free...
  19. You are right Merika. My dr diagnosed me nine years ago and simply told me no wheat, rye, barley and that oats was questionable, but to stay away from it just to be on the safe side. I rarely discuss my celiac with my drs anyhow. I've educated myself through websites and now this forum, which I love. I've become more aware of cross-contamination issues...
  20. I missed work and have a chance of getting laid off and missed 2 test at school. All because I had 4 bites of ice cream. Its not fair and nobody understands. They all just look at me and shrug their shoulders. Its like I am crying for help to them and they cant hear me or dont care to listen. Sorry needed to vent a litlle thanks guys. <{POST_SNAPBACK...
  21. Your symptoms very well could be celiac disease. Have you been to other websites looking for info? A good one I found in very simple to understand terms is: Open Original Shared Link I would find a printout of all the symptoms of celiac disease, highlight all that you have and take it to a dr. Or try the gluten-free diet. That's how I was dx with celiac...
  22. I sure can't blame you for being so frustrated. Abdominal pain is hard to diagnose, but I think your dr is using the "dx of the day" or IBS as an easy out. I've had the same pain you've described - so nauseated that I couldn't hold down tap water. ER dr. didn't have a clue. Said it was my celiac. I think it was a gallbladder attack for me. The pain...
  23. Hmm, I would try to eliminate the obvious bread and pastries. The more natural the food is, the less likely that it has been contaminated with gluten - fresh veggies, broiled meats, etc. I would try that for three weeks and see what happens. If the achiness and fatigue lessen, then you probably are on the right track.
  24. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Please take make sure you take good care of yourself. The stress is going to really zap you - keep your protein levels up, don't forget your supplements if you take them, and don't forget to eat.
