ARCHIVED Fasting After A Glutening? Pros And Cons?
alesusy replied to anti-soprano's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
thanks for the information, Anti-Soprano. Possibly your gut was frailer because of the glutening, though, and reacted to the med... -
I have found out most of the food I give to my two cats contains either "wheat flour" or a more generic "cereals" (Royal Canin Ageing and Ultra light, and Hill's k/d in pouches). I'm going to change their diet. However - did anyone have inklings and/or established that the food they gave their cats was actually a cause of glutening? thanks alessandra...

ARCHIVED Cc Issues And Thank You All For Being There
alesusy replied to alesusy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Too much sugar (cakes, muffins etc) is bad for me and I can only take limited quantities of caffeine. Thanks, dani nero. It's important. However the level of anxiety I have had these last few days was a MAJOR thing... -
Well, thank you all. Adelaide, I will bear in mind your suggestion - I did go to an eye doctor and a brain scan is a possibility but I've been doing so much stuff and so many exames that I'm really fed up. I have found out, however, that all three pet food I have been using contain either "wheat flour" or generically "cereals". I have two cats. They eat...

Well, I had it twice, but I asked to be anesthetized because I really, really, really hate having things in my throat. However they will spray something in your throat to numb it. My own GP told me he had several while fully awake and he never asked to be asleep because he never felt he needed it. The tube is really small. How much you will feel depends on...

ARCHIVED Cc Issues And Thank You All For Being There
alesusy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One must have been there to understand. For instance: why have I been feeling so off key for the last couple of months (at least?) Why did I spend the last ten days with persistent dizziness, GI problems (although not awful), huge tension in my shoulders and most of all, disabilitating levels of anxiety (crying jags, hypocondria totally out of control... -
ARCHIVED Hidden Foods! Was Doing So Well!
alesusy replied to Missmtl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"package flipping"! I love that definition.... May I add my Italian experience? We have a very active AIC association here (Associazione Italiana Celiachia). They actually print (and also have on their website, constantly updated) a list of all gluten-free products on sale in Italy, including those you find in normal supermarkets(which mayonnaise to buy... -
Hi Surviormum, did you have your endoscopy? it's nothing to be scared of - didn't you have one when first DX? A combination of viruses and glutening is always a possiblity and it may multiply esponentially the effects, I think. Give us news... alessandra

ARCHIVED Hair Spray With Wheat Starch - Possible To Get Glutened?
alesusy replied to Salax's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know, I'm wondering about the same exact thing. I've been sick on and off for months now and it dawned on me the other night that ONE possible cause of CC is a hair spray I bought in March in France. While I am NOT certain that it does contain gluten, it is a possibility (I'm not an expert in chemistry). I use it on my wet hair, spraying it on and then... -
Thank you, Adelaide. It sounds very interesting. However, I do not suffer from headaches. I used to get migraines years ago, awful migraines, but for the last year the only headaches I had were tension headaches related to my aching jaw and my gnashing teeth at night (they reced drastically if I exercise to relax the jaw joints). However, I was already...

Well, thank you all for the advice. Frankly, I do not think I have got MS and I sure hope I don't... I'm going to see an eye doctor on Monday . But there are days when my eyesight worsen noticeably, and then it gets better. It is hard NOT to think that it is related to something I ate, and to the reaction my gut has to it. The difference in vision from...

ARCHIVED When Did You Stop Getting New Symptoms?
alesusy replied to nvsmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I am 5 months gluten-free and while I'm ok for a good part of the time, I haave often "new" symptoms or recurrence of old ones, but with slight variations... Mainly: gut problems and D - blurry eyes, almost as if my vision has gone down - periodically aching legs - itchiness particularly on legs, not DH and no rash, or at least, very moderate rash... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination...help!
alesusy replied to mcarmazi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And something else: if you have to trust an unknown restaurant try going for a small family run place rather than a massive operation. They usually take the time to listen and understand (they need the clients).- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination...help!
alesusy replied to mcarmazi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi there Can I add something? I do eat in restaurants, and not only gluten-free certified places (however there are lots in Italy where I live). When I do go to a 'normal' restaurant, I tell them that I am celiac and ask them what I can have on the menu. The answer tells you a lot. The waiter telling you "not the fries because we share the frier for everything...- 7 replies

Thank you, Kristen It's very good news for you and it's so encouraging for everybody else. Personally it's just what I need to hear today!

thank you, steph. Very interesting article. I hope it is not my case, of course, but it's worth giving it a try for some weeks!

Sorry for the outburst - it's a NO day. I believe that - as somebody aptly put it to me - I might be "gluten light" rather than "gluten free". I particularly believe it on such days as today (and the last two days before...), when I'm somewaht dizzy, blurry eyed and itchy all over and I wonder whether this is celiac or SOMETHING ELSE. I know it happened...

ARCHIVED What To Expect, When
alesusy replied to Pam M's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Patience is the main thing. I don't mean resignation: I mean do not get scared if your symptoms take time to clear. Everybody's different. What I can tell you for sure is that if you manage to get really gluten-free, SOME symptoms should clear soon, in the space of a few days. My main symptom - gastro problems - is still there after 5 months gluten-free:... -
ARCHIVED Generally Much Better But New Symptoms Appearing
alesusy replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh I have, thank you. I'm OK now. One of the benefits of feeling generally better is that I deal better with "bad" days. I mean I'm able to think now "it will pass"... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do At A Wedding?
alesusy replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's really a matter of being flexible, isn't it? I have some basic answers but they change with the situations. Sometimes it's OK to bring along your own food, sometimes it's OK to eat beforehand, sometimes it's better to deal with the caterers. If I do that, I will always speak personally at the very least to the waiters and more often to the owner or to... -
ARCHIVED Generally Much Better But New Symptoms Appearing
alesusy replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
thank you. I am as careful as possible - I believe!. I do read labels carefully but of course there may be gluten in products where it is not specified. And it does happen that I have to eat out or at a friend's house. I try to stick to grilled fish or meat and potatoes. I must say, I spent two weeks travelling in London and Prague and I ate out practically... -
I mean, maybe I don't have to ELIMINATE THEM apart from an initial period of depuration but the fact is I've been having problems after consuming certain foods or rather, vaste quantities of certain foods and I couldn't find a connection but now it seems there might be one... especially coffee, cola, nuts, chocolate, strawberries and red wine! I had noticed...

ARCHIVED Generally Much Better But New Symptoms Appearing
alesusy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm almost 5 months gluten-free and doing generally much better in terms of energy, intestinal problems (bar bad days here and there), mental clearness etc. However I am very surprised to see appearing new symptoms which seem to be typycally celiac and I did not have before. Such as: irregularity of my menstrual cycle and, most notably, the appearing of small... -
ARCHIVED Hormones, Specifically Menstruation
alesusy replied to cavernio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Very hot topic for me. I'm almost 5 months gluten-free at this point and my periods are totally out of whack. They started in November, my last month before diagnosis, with a couple of 14-day cycles and one episode of long spotting before the period. Then I went gluten-free after DX and it got back on track. Last month, though, I had a 35 day cycle and this...
