ARCHIVED A Cheesy Note To Newbies With Secondary Lactose Intolerance
alesusy replied to ABQ-Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi ABQ - good for you! I still have a severe lactose intolerance (gluten-free since December 2012) but I've found out thankfully, that I can eat well seasoned cheese (Parmesan cheese more than 24 months old is available here in Italy) because it does not containt lactose any more (or less lactose). However I can't have milk nor fresh cheese nor butter nor... -
ARCHIVED Some Good News
alesusy replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you Mushroom. Very wise words:-) I've been travelling for two days in France and I'll be travelling again in April for two weeks. This means bringing crackers and stuff to keep up... buying lots of apples... and basically, either choosing the restaurants, or if I cannot do that, eating at least something sure BEFORE I go to the restaurant where everybody... -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
alesusy replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes Funkflax, I did improve noticeably. My symptoms all tend to come back if eat gluten - not on purpose! - or if I eat something else which bothers me, because - that's where the patience comes in - my bowels are VERY sensitive and get very easily upset, not only with gluten or lactose but with spicy foods, coffee, tea, too much Coke, or simply too much...- 45 replies

ARCHIVED What Were You First Symptoms To Go Away?
alesusy replied to norman516's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First thing to go, anxiety attacks and depression. Energy levels too started improving in the first week. Tension headaches disappeared too. Blurred vision too. Reflux in the first weeks. All of these come back periodically, however, either because I ate gluten (involuntarily!) or because I ate something else which bothered my very sensitive bowels. (say... -
ARCHIVED Digestion Speed: Embarassing Question
alesusy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok, so I was in Lyon (FRance) and I tried a super restaurant which allegedly uses NO allergenes: no soy, no wheat, no lactose and other stuff. I was hungry and I ate a lot - way too much. Then I got back to my hotel and I had a VERY strange BM and then a bout of diarreha. I think I just ate too much because thank God I was OK that night and the day after... -
ARCHIVED Some Good News
alesusy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The good news it that my anti-transglutaminatose antibodies have gone down. They were at 78 in December when I went Gluten Free, now they are at 17.5: still over the 16 which marks the upper level of sensibility, but way down. The other good news is that I have finally understood - I think - that I have to eat CAREFULLY. Which does ot only mean gluten... -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
alesusy replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Patience is, unfortunately, the key word. Personally after a lot of trial and error I'm just keeping to basic food. I'm gluten-free since the beginning of December 2012 and I' also lactose-intolerant. I have almost eliminated coffee and tea. I'm eating much less than I used to and basically keep to some vegetables, lots of fruit, chicken, some red meat,...- 45 replies

I'm with Gemini and Takala on this one. definitely. Family issues are always thorny but really, if they treat you like this why should you want to spend time with them? At Easter or any other time? They may be "family" but they're not behaving as a family should. Sorry for the censorius tone. I have had some friend cook special dinners for me these last...

ARCHIVED Can Someone Talk Me Down?
alesusy replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
CaliSparrow, I hope you'll feel better soon. The worse of bad days, and the worse of a glutening too, is that we lose objectivity. We know what has happened and we know "it's just the glutening" ("just!") but anxiety sets in and we get scared ("why am I feeling this way AGAIN? will it ever pass? what did I do wrong this time? is something ELSE wrong with... -
Same problem. I travelled to Amsterdam and ate twice in a Thai restaurant explaining that I wanted stuff with no soy sauce and I didn't get sick (I was lucky, though). I'm travelling next week to Lyon in France (sadly, a place choke full of good restaurants) and later I'm travelling to London and to Prague. I can't have dairy but I will eat meat and fish...

ARCHIVED Your Bowels Are Like Berlin Post War
alesusy replied to alesusy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What I'm trying to do is: I keep a food diary I don't drink alcohol at all (if I'm out with friends I might try a quarter of a glass but no more than that) I have almost entirely eliminated coffee and tea, but also Coca Cola and drink orange juice for breakfast I'm trying to have very little processed food, I bake my own bread and muffins Non gluten... -
ARCHIVED First Time Declining An Invitation
alesusy replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
a good plan with really good friends I find is ask them exactly what they're going to cook and how. If one is super super sensitive as you are, Adelaide, then going to your friend's place and cooking together might be a good plan. A friend just invited me for Sunday lunch. I feel comfrotable enough because she was with me as a Thai restaurant where I... -
That's what my Gastro doctor told me today when I complained that three months and a half gluten-free, I still have- often - bad or very bad days. "Three months is nothing. You haven't even started rebuilding yet, you're just moving out the ruins" he said. He also said I might have other problems apart from celiac, of course, but we cannot start understanting...

ARCHIVED Anyone Get Gluten Type Reactions From Coffee?
alesusy replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had issues with coffee and with coca cola as well. Now I'm just trying to avoid them.. The odd coffee (even an Italian espresso) doesn't bother me but a couple of cups of American coffee a day play havoc with my bowels. Ditto for tea. I've been gluten-free three months and I think my gut is just very sensitive (for now, hopefully) to anything harsh. -
ARCHIVED Can't Take This Disease Anymore!
alesusy replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
thanks you all, you are such a comfort for being there. I've been gluten-free for a little over three months now and my GI issues are still there on and off and I have bad days and better days even when I'm positively sure that I have not been glutened. I'm keeping a food diary and trying to keep me to the simplest possible diet. I've cut out dairy and in... -
dear Googles, spasms diarreha is my thing as well after a glutening. I mean: first the diarreha then the spasms diarreha. I took an Imodium too last week: of course it is better to stay home and let it run its course and not mess up with medication, but sometimes one has to. I have no answers other that we must wait for it to pass...

ARCHIVED Three Months gluten-free, Cramping Again
alesusy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello everybody I'm lactose-intolerant (milk free since last June) and have been a confirmed celiac since the beginning of January but I stopped eating gluten on December 3rd. Generally speaking I've been much better especially in terms of energy, mental clarity, but I did have some bad days. However in the last three weeks I've had bad symptoms again... -
Anyone Been Glutened By Earl Grey Tea?
alesusy replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
this topic is extremely interesting. In the last couple of weeks I've been drinking for breakfast - at home - a tea of the brand KUSMI TEA (French), "Anastasia" wich has bergamot, orange and lemon flavourings. Approx, I've been having light diarroeha and stomach cramps for the same period. Notice that I've been gluten-free and lactose free three months now... -
MyYoung, I don't know if this can help. If drugs don't do much, they might be tension headaches. Tension should ease goin gluten free, but there are relaxation tecniques that can help anyway. I mention this because I was really scared after one continuous month of headaches, and I felt much relieved when my dentist showed me where it was coming from. Is...

ARCHIVED Lifting The Veil: First Months
alesusy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hope this will be useful to some recently dx. I've been dx on January 7th (biopsy results) but I stopped eating gluten on December 2nd right before my gastro. celiac disease symptoms can be elusive, and it is easy to forget how sick you felt. So this is a list of the things that are goin better after almost two months gluten-free. During this time, I... -
Hi Langone I was dx about one month ago and am not taking anything because my doctor said I would be able to absorb nutrients as my bowels would heal. Other people here are taking supplements and find they are beneficial. I don't think it can harm you, anyway. Biopsy: I had one, it pinpointed the dx, it will serve as a future reference to check the...

ARCHIVED Family Drama
alesusy replied to soyjoy318's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
tell her you won't talk to her again unless she get tested, and then really do it. It is a reasonable and strong lever point. She might really be celiac as well. On the other hand, there's no obligation to be nice to an annoying person just because she's a family member: steer clear... -
ARCHIVED Loose Bowels, Again...
alesusy replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been reading around. Hot American coffee in the morning And afternoon, ample doses of Coke and chocolate are NOT a good idea when your bowels need to heal. I'm going to stop the Coke and the choc completely, but also the coffee which I drink a lot, and we'll see what happens. comments are welcome anyway - a. -
ARCHIVED Loose Bowels, Again...
alesusy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello everybody I have been dx last week (biopsy positive, 3b Marsh) and I've been gluten-free since December 2nd. I'm looking for reassurance, really... the first weeks of gluten-free diet went great, I felt better, my bowel movements were back to once a day and normal. Now since 5 days ago, the big D is back with me and today worse than in the last few... -
ARCHIVED A Thought On Supplements
alesusy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hello there. I've just been DX - the result of my bioopsy came in today and confirmed I'm a 3.b marsh celiac. As expected (all the bloodwork was positive). This post is just a thought about supplements. I did ask my doc, and he said that my body will start to absorb nutrients on its own when I'm healing, and until I'm healing, my bowels would not absorb...
