Yeah, sometimes we forget that we have an international membership. In the US, most hotdogs are gluten free.

Positive blood work is a true diagnosis. Give the diet a true 100% for three months and see how you feel. My guess it Marvelous!

Metamucil is gluten free and does not list oats.

If dairy doesn't bother you, there is reason to limit it. "May contain a trace..." can often be a disclaimer. Give it a try and see how you feel. That's often a personal choice based on experience.
Don't forget to think of your local Food Bank when you're getting rid of those gluten foods. Someone is always hungry.

Welcome gfinchandler!
We should be back to "normal" in a day or two, but a grand welcome to you! Please feel free to take a walk around and if we can be of help, just ask.

Could someone please confirm the information I posted about Yeast Extract? Thank you
You might want to contact Lipton (Unilevel) and request information regarding the source of the Yeast Extract. Yeast is not an ingredient that I am often concerned about.
-
Hum, I lost a post
Lipton is an Unilevel Company and their policy is to clearly list all forms of gluten. It is the only one of their dry soups and mixes that is gluten free.
It should be gluten free Jillian, as it lists no gluten. I use it all the time in my beef stew.
-
Is Lipton Onion still gluten-free? It lists Yeast Extract in the ingredients and I always thought that was unsafe as it contains Barley. This list: Open Original Shared Link says it contains gluten.
Thanks
Jillian
Lipton Onion Soup and Dip Mix is listed as gluten free in Cecelia's Grocery Shopping Guide 2009-10 Edition. I use it frequently in my beef stew.
Guess with conflicting information, we should contact the company, just to make sure.
Ah Ha....
Lipton's is an Unilevel Company and their policy is to always list all forms of gluten as in wheat, malt, barley and rye:

I really dont want to take an acid reducer but my doc wants me on a short course to treat some duodenitis. he suggested prilosec but i wanted to find out if zantac would be better? im worried about side effects
can anyone please advise?
thanks
A "short course" of prilosec should cause you no concern. Long term use of antacids can reduce the absorption of B-12. Weigh the odds Jason. It might make you feel better.

Hi Momma and Welcome!
I always marvel at the strength of mothers, when their children have special diet needs.
We have many moms who will share their experience with you. How long has your family been totally gluten free? Do your or the father, or grandparents have digestive issues? Twenty percent of first degree relatives can develop Celiac Disease.
Blunted villi is not conclusive for Celiac, but coupled with the rest of the family history, it may be likely.
I would put the entire family on a 100% gluten free diet for several months. I bet you would be surprised at the improvement.
C.com is full of useful information, with hundreds of moms who have walked in your shoes to guide you along. You have come to a great place.

How deep do you have to go, to solve the meaning of life, if one lives in a garbage can? I'd say, it's pretty damn simple...eat, sleep and "Grouch" at everyone around you.
-
Welcome!
After being sick for over six years and you have seen a dramatic improvement in your health, it should stand to reason, that a gluten free diet is what you body is trying to tell you.
Good health is always a commitment, whether diagnosed with Celiac or not. It IS evident that you either have a gluten intolerance or Celiac Disease.
If you feel better on this diet, stick with it.
-
Is there a "back to the top" option that I'm missing?
-
It looks better, but I'm finding it more difficult to find what I'm looking for. I'm sure that will come with time.
I don't like how you don't automatically subscribe when you start a new topic... or at least it doesn't give you the option to get an email when someone replies.
I'm just being picky though
I feel like an "old dog" too lol
Jillian, click on "Watch This Topic" and it will direct you to e-mail choices for notification.
-
OK! This old dog is slow to change.
What do you think?
-
. Of course,, they say I am not eligible to join because I don't have a diagnosis
HOGWASH! Join anyway.
-
Welcome!
Try the diet and see if you find relief. But you need to be strictly gluten free 100%.
This forum will guide you on your way. And you are in good company, as most here have been misdiagnosed or have searched many years for a solution.

wheat-based glucose syrups
Based on the FDA proposed gluten-free labeling regulation a product can be derived from a gluten-containing grain such as wheat based glucose syrup and be labeled gluten-free yet the ingredients could say glucose syrup (wheat) provided it is under 20 parts per million (ppm). This will be very confusing for patients as we teach them to avoid wheat and yet a product like glucose syrup may have no or very little residual gluten and be labeled gluten free.”
Now there ya go, but this is a US FDA regulation. Not sure about Australia/New Zealand, but if I recall correctly, are there not stricter guidelines pertaining to a product listed as "gluten free"?

That was my vague recollection too, Lisa, which is why I posed the question. But I did have a slight "glutened" reaction to the mints...
Dave has some great stuff on his personal profile page. Let's go check it out.
The answer is here somewhere....I promise:

Is glucose one of those ingredients that is sooo processeed, that it's rendered gluten free (or safe enough to consume)? I vaguely, recall IrishDave posting information regarding that.
Running out, but will check later.

What's the policy, exactly?
Here are the Board Rules, which people agree too, when joining our membership:

If I'm not wrong, all of Smithfield's products are gluten free. They are a great company.

V8 is owned by Campbell's and in the US there are very few soups which are gluten free. Campbell's Canada is very different.
If you contact Campbell's they will send you, by mail, their current gluten free listing.
