Positive blood work is a true diagnosis. Give the diet a true 100% for three months and see how you feel. My guess it Marvelous!

  2. Is Lipton Onion still gluten-free? It lists Yeast Extract in the ingredients and I always thought that was unsafe as it contains Barley. This list: Open Original Shared Link says it contains gluten.

    Thanks :)

    Jillian

Lipton Onion Soup and Dip Mix is listed as gluten free in Cecelia's Grocery Shopping Guide 2009-10 Edition. I use it frequently in my beef stew.

Guess with conflicting information, we should contact the company, just to make sure.

    Ah Ha....

Lipton's is an Unilevel Company and their policy is to always list all forms of gluten as in wheat, malt, barley and rye:

  3. I really dont want to take an acid reducer but my doc wants me on a short course to treat some duodenitis. he suggested prilosec but i wanted to find out if zantac would be better? im worried about side effects

    can anyone please advise?

    thanks

A "short course" of prilosec should cause you no concern. Long term use of antacids can reduce the absorption of B-12. Weigh the odds Jason. It might make you feel better.

  4. Hi Momma and Welcome!

I always marvel at the strength of mothers, when their children have special diet needs.

We have many moms who will share their experience with you. How long has your family been totally gluten free? Do your or the father, or grandparents have digestive issues? Twenty percent of first degree relatives can develop Celiac Disease.

Blunted villi is not conclusive for Celiac, but coupled with the rest of the family history, it may be likely.

I would put the entire family on a 100% gluten free diet for several months. I bet you would be surprised at the improvement.

C.com is full of useful information, with hundreds of moms who have walked in your shoes to guide you along. You have come to a great place.

  5. It looks better, but I'm finding it more difficult to find what I'm looking for. I'm sure that will come with time.

I don't like how you don't automatically subscribe when you start a new topic... or at least it doesn't give you the option to get an email when someone replies.

I'm just being picky though ;) I feel like an "old dog" too lol

Jillian, click on "Watch This Topic" and it will direct you to e-mail choices for notification.

    wheat-based glucose syrups

Based on the FDA proposed gluten-free labeling regulation a product can be derived from a gluten-containing grain such as wheat based glucose syrup and be labeled gluten-free yet the ingredients could say glucose syrup (wheat) provided it is under 20 parts per million (ppm). This will be very confusing for patients as we teach them to avoid wheat and yet a product like glucose syrup may have no or very little residual gluten and be labeled gluten free.”

Now there ya go, but this is a US FDA regulation. Not sure about Australia/New Zealand, but if I recall correctly, are there not stricter guidelines pertaining to a product listed as "gluten free"?
