All distilled alcohols are considered safe for most people with Celiac to consume. But, there are a few that I know of that do react to grain based alcohol.

Welcome Rae!
Many here are self diagnosed and feel quite comfortable with that. If you choose to forgo testing, start simple. Meats, seafood, rice, veggies, potatoes and fresh fruit. No need for processed foods at the moment, or keep them to a minimum.
I would be as strict as possible for over a month or so. If you have a possitive dietary response, you can conclude you have Celiac Disease or some level of a gluten sensitivity. Both are rx'd by a gluten free diet. Some find relief immediately, others take longer. I would concentrate on removing gluten for now. And if you don't feel better, you may look into other foods as a problem. But, do take one step at a time.
As a college student, there is no need to deprive youself...there are several adult beverages available
Take a walk around here. It's a great place for information and support.
Once you get use to what you can eat, you will find that your sacrifices are only small ones. I do not feel deprived.

We don't know all the facts, so let's not pass judgement.
I agree.
She is a highly paid actor and contracts are detailed. We don't know the facts and may never know. I don't know Jennifer's current state of health, or at the point of her dismissal .Nor do I know the reason for her dismissal by the networks. Do YOU know?
As I stated earlier (as an advanced member)....I'm witholding judgement.

I think I'm still in denial mode. Add in the fact that I won't eat red meat and my options are so limited .. or so it feels.
Anyone wanna have a 'welcome pity party'
I hope you get good news regarding your GI visit. Good news meaning that you find an answser to your distress. I would certainly recommend a full biopsy with 8-10 samples, should you have an endoscopy exam.
The following are the celiac specific blood tests:
Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA
Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG
Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA
Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA
Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG
Total Serum IgA
If Celiac is your issue, no pity party is needed. It's an adjustment to your diet and shopping and good health is right around the corner.

Call me crazy, but i fear that i possibly got glutened from airborne particles of Winter Wheat. It is being planted in my area and my home is smack dab in the middle of all of the farmland. I cannot trace the sickness i am feeling back to anything that i ate in the last few days...
Sure makes me wonder!

NO ..... call me crazy ( I wanna dance).
Start a food diary and the airborn that you speak of ,should not be a worry. You might want to revisit your diet.

Hi,
I am new here. A month ago my blood test came back positive for gluten anti-bodies. I have an endoscopy next week, but am wondering if anyone knows what percentage of people who have the endoscopy actually test positive for celiac?? I really want to start going gluten free, to see if I feel better but I know I can't until after the endo. I'm also having doubts about the endoscopy and will be disappointed for putting myself through that if I end up not having celiac. Any thoughts or statistics?
Thanks!
Hi Amber and welcome! Could you post your blood test results here. We have some great peeps who can interpret them for you.
I did everything backwards. I was really sick and my GP sent me to a GI who confirmed my diagnosis as Celiac via Biopsy. I had a blood test several months after being gluten free, which was negative.
If possitive, that alone can be diagnostic. An Endo Exam can confirm the diagnosis, but it can also check for the level of damage due to Celiac, or look for other associated issues, with digestive distress. Ask the GI to take 8-10 samples, as the intestines are long and affectived areas may be missed. If you biopsy is negative, it could be that you were tested prior to significant damage could be identified. A negative test does not necessarily mean that you do not have Celiac. As well, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity can be RX's by a gluten free diet.
You're only a week away...take this time to get organized, and read here as much as you are able. As soon as you get tested, you can begin the diet. A positive dietary result is also a piece of the diagnostic puzzle.
What are your symtoms?

I agree Karen. But before the upgrade it was not like that.

I have an issue...may be me, but not too sure
It seems that the longer the thread, the longer it takes to open up "View New Content". When I check in on the Sillie Thread, I can literally walk away and come back.
New threads, no problem. The wait becomes progressive with the amount of posts.

I'm sorry you're feeling down. It IS hard in the begining and most everyone goes through a "mourning phase". I hope your family can get a good perspective about what you have to deal with.
I generally do all the cooking at home and it's always gluten free. Unless I have company for spaghetti or serve bread for my guests. My family knows the safety rules when they bring in gluten.
Alway, keep in mind that you're doing this so you can be healthy again and enjoy your life to the fullest. And don't deprive youself too much. Sounds like you're in need of a hot fudge sunday or something special to perk up your day.
It does get better. Stick with us...we'll get you though it. And welcome!

Kinda quiet around here.......can't imagine why?

I, personally would reserve an opinion until I know more facts. Many people here, who post consistantly, have full time jobs. Other than an unusual inconvienience, I have heard no complaints.
It would be pretty bad, if someone exploited our disorder for financial reasons. BUT, I will withhold my thoughts until more information appears.

So happy for you Colleen and Rose...keep up the good fight. Brighter days are ahead! Well wishes for the both of you!!!!

My celiac blood test was a weak positive (8). I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last Friday. Afterward, the dr. came in and told me she found "Duodenal erosion and scalloped mucosa in the duodenum" and was 99% sure the biopsy would reveal celiac.
TIA!!
Hello and Welcome!
In addition to what Mushroom offered, a positive - full blood panel is conclusive. And scalloping and erosion, is also a large piece of the puzzle and consistant with Celiac Disease. And, add your family diagnostic history.
Were you consuming gluten at the time of your blood test? The biopsy could have missed affected areas. How many samples did they take? It's possible that you were tested before major damage could occur.
A gene test will tell you that you "may" be predisposed to Celiac. It's not conclusive to just Celiac Disease. Only thirty percent of the people who carry the genes associated with Celiac, will go on to develop the disease. But, again, in your case....it's another piece of the puzzle.
In my opinion, a positive dietary response would be the defining criteria for your diagnosis.

There is no consistancy with this disease.
But, if you are diagnosed with Celiac, I would strongly recommend that you continue to eat gluten free. To do otherwise, would be a waiting game for a secondary diagnosis, not as easily remedied as a gluten free diet.

Here is an idea:
layered pudding and sugared fresh fruit... topped with cool whip and dusted with cinnamon or nutmeg.
Open Original Shared Link
It would transport well in a cooler and you could assemble at your destination in wine glasses or similar.

Did not have the pleasure of knowing her. I believe I joined after she stopped writing. My heart and prayers go to all of you and her family who knew and cherished her. I wish I had known her. She sounds like a bright and shining star.

Metta (Mouse) passed away several months ago and was in complete control through her journey and was VERY firm in her wishes. She left nothing undone. She was a pistol and proud of it.
And generous beyond belief. It was my pleasure to know her.
