I was wondfing if you would possibly send me the information on the gluten free list. I have just been recently diagnosed and it would help me out tons!
lindsay.nickol@gmail.com
Lulu Magoo,
The post that you responded to is two years old. It would not be a current list. I understand that it is difficult in early diagnosis. Please don't rely on dated information. Things change rapidly, especially in the restaurant business.
If you would like current information, it would be best to contact the Company or Restaurant directly.
Many have web sites that you can access.
There are many thread here on this site that have current information. Take time to read through some of them. I am sure that you will find them helpful.

Healthy oils - Udo's, fish, olive and flax, peanut butter, nut butters, avacado are all excellent non-dairy suggestions for your diet. I would also recommend a protein supplement and/or meal replacement powder mixed with water or juice. A whey protein isolate, soy or egg white protein are lactose-free.
I would also highly encourage you to start a regular weight training program, if you're not already doing so. A good strength training program, coupled with good sources of protein and healthy fats, will help you gain lean muscle mass and is key to healthy weight gain.
I went from around 90 pounds at my sickest to a personal best of 119. No one asks me if I'm anorexic any more. Squats and lunges will build up your glutes and reduce your discomfort while sitting.
All wonderful suggestions. Okay, I have to get motivated to build up the muscles. I am 5'8" and weigh 130, so not abnormal. But the bulk of my weight is around my middle. At 52, with a family history of heart disease, not good.
Eat more, almonds and avacados and get my butt out of the house and excercize.
Thank you, all that have responded. I have to get busy and get to work. Thanks for the push...

I was diagnosed 3 months ago. At first I felt better than I have in years. Then it seemed I couldn't stay unglutened. I have been sick once a week for 4 weeks. I have had MRI of the head to apease my DH and boss. 3 days ago I ordered a Sonic salad minus the cheese and opened it up only to find a fried onion ring. Normally ,I would have thrown it away however I was starving and just took off the ring and all of the surrounding lettuce. By the next morning I felt very fatigued and went to bed around 5pm and didn't get out of bed literally for 17 hours. The week before I got equally as sick on a work trip because of flouridex gel which only after I called the company they said there was a byproduct of gluten. Seriously this is really tough. Has anyone had this much trouble getting well. My doc says I am very sensitive now but this may get better with time.
Thanks in advance for listening.
Anyone else had problems with flouridex gel ? I guess I should have not eaten the salad. Is anyone else had a similar experiece? Thanks
Sonic had almost nothing that would be suitable for those of us with Celiac.
I noticed that this is you second post, so I wanted to welcome you to the Board.
Gluten can be a nasty monster, because it hides everywhere. If you try to go 100% gluten free to the best of your ability, it should show some remarkable changes. I do have to admit that in the beginning it is almost impossible to go 100%. There are way too many traps. But, you are three months into a suggested diet and it should be easier for you. The benefits for a gluten free diet far out weighs the pain and the fatigue, at least for me. It keeps me on the straight road.
I usually keep some gluten free snack bars in my purse or some nuts when I find myself not able to eat food...it beats throwing up and intestinal issues and three days of fatigue and brain fog.
You have to weigh you choices.

FYI - this is a pretty old thread. celiac3270 is a busy student, but with hopes he will find this thread again.
Lists of gluten free restaurant items change frequently. I would suggest you call or e-mailing the restaurants and get a current listing. Most can be found by using the "www. ( ).com.
Chilli's
Wendy's
McD's
Chick-fil-A
Outback
P.F. Changs
Cabarras ....and others have menus on line.

I have been gluten free since monday, when I had my endoscopy so I guess today would be 6 days. I really feel like I am going to lose it. I am so overwhelmed. I am in the "I can't have rut", and having a hard time finding what I can. I know the list is huge of what I can but it is just stressful! I have no groceries, made a special trip today to a store that said they had a gluten free list and when I got there they did not have one. So there I am, emotional because I am hungry and have been all week, there with my 2 small kids on a saturday, need I say more?? It ended in disaster after 50 minutes I finally left in tears without buying anything. Why am I having such a hard time? In addition I certainly am not feeling any better yet, if anything I feel worse. I can't sleep, bloated, hungry even when I do eat I am still hungry, irritable is an understatement, and on the verge of tears all day. Is this like a reaction to no gluten?? I know this will get easier and I have signed up for a local celiac 101 class next week, I just seem to be having a tough time getting ahead of the head game. Thanks for letting me vent.
The best start is to start simple. Don't overwhem yourself. Stick to meats, seafood, rice, potatos, fresh veggies, and fruit. If you tummy is upset go to the BRAT diet - Bananas, Rice, Apple Sauce and Tea.
Limit you intake of processed foods, eat naturally. Don't go out and by a bunch of gluten free premade foods. They are expensive and you may never need them.
To get you over the hump:
Oscar Myer bacon
Hillshire Farms will always list gluten
Kraft will always list gluten
Hellmans Mayo
LaChoy Soy Sauce
Boars Head Meats and Cheeses are all Gluten Free
Dole Produce will always list
ConAgra will always list
Popcorn
Lay Staxx are gluten free
Check your shampoos, lipsticks (they were my hardest things to research).
Hope this is a start

Alex,
Patti had a great idea about a food diary. It can help you pinpoint some food that can be a bother to you.
I did want to say, that I am sooo glad that you are up to posting. That's a good thing.
-
Linda, thanks for you time to find that information. I really appreciate your efforts, but yes, I agree, it's a little heavy on the dairy.
-
Ben'sMom, here is your post. I am sorry that I can not offer advise. But, perhaps the other moms of young children can help you.
-
Yup, last time I checked.
-
I am new, and I post a message but it not has shown up yet. It has been a couple of hours. Please let me know what I need to do correctly.
Hey BensMom,
I am glad that you have joined us. Sometime on the week end it is slowcity around here. The thread are recycled at a certain post point. You can find you post on the catogory that you posted it under....ie. "prediagnosis, post, coping, parents...threads". It is still there. You did nothing wrong.
I will try to find it. Althought, not a mom of young children, there are many here that are.

I had a positive biopsy and negative allergy/blood tests. I'm supposed to be trying the gluten-free diet for 3 months to see if it's true. I don't think it is because I know there were times when ate gluten and never had a reaction and there are times i have reactions when I know I've had no gluten. I've been on and off the diet (because my doctors have different opinions) and couldn't tell much of a difference either way. Why would I still have symptoms with gluten free foods?
A gluten reaction can be delayed, and some here can react up to three days later. That might be something to think about. There are also some celiacs that are non-symptomatic. They have no symptoms, but the damage does occure.
Celiac is not always about what you consume in your meals. Lipstick, lotions, shampoos, meds and scratched pots and pans, wooded spoons used prior to being gluten free can also cause problems.
I do not know how long you have been gluten free, but for many here, it has taken months to feel relief from a gluten free diet. There are way too many traps to fall into when you are first diagnosed.
It is really unrealistic for a very newly diagnoses celiac to go 100% - there is just way too much to learn. But it can be done with study and diligence.
Hope that can answer some of your questions. And welcome!!

Hey guys,
Many of you know that I have been gluten free for two years. No problem with that, got it down.
I have recently developed something called Pressure Palsey. In simple terms.. carpel tunnel of the bottom. I have NO butt and as I sit, even for a short time, my legs go to sleep and toes go numb. My legs and arms are very slim. And I have no padding on my butt and on the pads of my feet. (which is one of the symptoms of celiac). End of back ground.
My question is how can I put on weight and remain dairy light and soy light? Every high caloric foods that I can think of is high in lactose. I would love to have a McD's milkshake once a day, but the result don't work out well. (or rather, they work out too well).
Any thoughts?

It's nice to meet you Alex. You are so blessed to have such wonderful people surrounding you, especially your devoted Ryan.
You have had a tough year and it will take some time to recover and not look around for another brick to fall. I really do understand how your feel. I have had many tragedies in my life and I know the feeling. It is quite natural.
Confidence and time will heal you. We are so glad that you are doing much better.

Go to the options box on the top right of the page - click on it and go to "standard". That should work.

My father, grandfather, an uncle, an aunt, and three cousins with celiac.
I took the test last year, and and at the same time I had a blood test in which I had to fast. The results came back negative, but I have many symptoms.
I was wondering if fasting for 12-15 hours would alter the results?
Thanks.
Was was "your fast" before your test? And what was you test?

I *personally* would be wary of any product indirectly claiming/implying it can treat a disease when it has NO scientific data or FDA research to back it up.
In theory, if gluten was broken down so fast that there was no chance of it being absorbed whole by the leaky gut, then it would technically be possible to avoid a Celiac related immune response. However, I highly doubt this product could do what it claims.
There have been some trials with different enzymes hoping to do just that, but nothing has been brought to market so far or been very successful as far as I know.
Usually, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
If you want to use it for CC, it may (or may not) help. It probably can't hurt anything but your wallet.
I also think this product can be very misleading and dangerous to newbies, especially if the hippie/grandmother types at the local health food store are saying that it is a "natural cure" for Celiac.
I would tend to agree with Doll on this particular product. I have see no endorsements from any Celiac Foundations or any scientific evidence support research for this product.
I have no interest in this product and I see that someone is getting rich off of the misfortune of others.

Have a wonderful one Stef!!!

I have taken both Fosamax and Actonel and both are gluten-free.
My only concern, and this was pointed out to me by Ursula, is that w/ Fosamax there has been a side affect - very rare, but still - of necrosis of the jaw.
So I switched to Actonel, but I'm embarassed to tell you taht I haven't even read the tiny, tiny print on the insert to tell you if that has the same side affect as well.
I was just warned by an older woman to watch for peculiar achiness, muscle cramps, etc.
Let us know how things go. I have medium- to high-risk bone density loss and it does suck (my back - oy!)
Thanks Susie. I am at severe risk and have no meat on my bones, with very thin limbs. (Watermellon on toothpicks, somes to mind).

Hey,
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and feel certain that he will prescribe and osteoprosis med for me (such as Boniva). For those who take this, do you know which ones are gluten free.
Thanks

I drink a V-8 daily and it works well for me. I am looking for a juicer now.

Every new doctor that I have been to wanted to run their own tests. One ran the celiac panel on me after being two months gluten free. It was negative, so he determined I needed lexipro, regardless of the positive endoscopy and biopsy.
I don't think that you should compound your already unsettled health by going back to a gluten diet. You have already been diagnosed through you blood work. I see no other need for conformation for you new GI. (other, that perhaps a view of damage).
Are you certain that you have removed ALL forms of gluten, i.e. meds, shampoos, lip balms, pots and pans, wooded spoons....
You may, as I have, developed other food intolerances such as soy? When I get sick, I go back to the basics like meats, seafood, rice, veggies, fruits and eliminate all processed foods.
Totally gluten free from 7-08 is a relatively small amount of time to heal you gut. If you were not 100% gluten free from your diagnosis date, even the slightest of gluten would have continued to do damage - you were not gluten free.
Hope you fee better soon, in my humble 8-ball evaluation.

Has anyone ever had trouble with gluten in parm cheese? Do you know certain brands that are safe?
M
I use Kraft. They will always list if a product contains gluten.
