  1. OMG - - - - Lisa - - - it don't get better indeed! I have never thought of this shrimp-wrapped bacon thing......

    what kind of bacon, BTW?

    ;)

    S-Q,

Take the shrimp and alternate the bacon (Oscar Meyer, of course). Skewer the shrimp and flip flop the bacon between the shrimp.. Spread the Sweet Bay Ray's BBQ sauce and grill lightly. You can do the same for scallops.

You can broil as well. Yup, don't get any better.

  2. Welcome Terrydavis,

Without a concern, you would not have found you way here. I would recommend that you read as much as you can from these posts. They hold an emense amount of knowledge and research. All you would want to know about Celiac is here on this side.

Triggers for Celiac are not always known to us, but most are pre-disposed.

If you have has a sudden onset of symptoms, you need to revisit what you eat and everything that goes into your mouth, including shampoos, lotions. New meds need to be checked through the manufacturers. After you have done that and symptoms are constant, you may want to pursue further testing. Not all roads lead to Celiac, and may can morf into other things.

An informed doctor can be helpful.

I am glad that you daughter has been successful and tip the nose to those who thought other wise.!

Is this frustrating, yeah, there are 15,000 on this site alone. 3 million people in the US alone, that we know about.

    You do not stand alone.

  3. I volunteered at a Habitat for Humanity build Sunday, and ended up cutting and hanging drywall. Toward the end of the day, a little thought in my head nagged that I might have seen something about gluten in drywall on this forum, but I would just have to wait and see. Sure enough, glutened! Next time I'll find out exactly which jobs I'll be doing before I say yes! Any other building supplies I should avoid?

I have not found many responses that drywall contains gluten, or at least substantiated with documentation, but to be on the safe side, I would work elsewhere. And a mask would probably be helpful.

  4. As You know I have been scared to give my son ( the Santa baby in the photo) Differnt things with out a small taste first to see if there is a vomiting reaction.

Well it seems that The gluti no products have been really good .. almost great and just like the real thing... the glutino pretzles sticks are so good normal folk cannot tell the difference... the bagles are so good .. I ate one but at the cost its a luxury .... (there not for me But they are soo good) ... the mac and cheese is good... I am finding that like an earlier post ... I am having a time of finding bread.. Kinnikinnick ( sorry if spelling is off) But there bread is okay.. enerG is okay but I need to try and find some good bread... But I am having the same problem bread that falls apart.

BUT THE STUFF FROM GLUTIN NO seems to be as close to the real thing as we can get.

email me and tell me if any one has found bread.

I buy my glutino products from WHole foods so there expensive but I make them last. the baby likes to eat the things sooo its kinda worth it . I read some folks had a hard time with the web site. thansk chris

Yes, this is an exciting day for me. Our local Food Lion is upgrading their store, preparing for the incomming Farm Fresh. They just put in a large line of gluten free products (I had to go out of town to find things). I'm trying the spaghetti tonight.

  5. I mixed coffee beans together, half decaf and half regular. Neither were "flavored" but I think I'm being glutened slowly by my cup of Joe. It's the only thing I changed last Thursday and am having symptoms. Off balance, brain fog, tired, back ache and I think the digestive issues will start soon.

Is plain coffee a problem? Someone told me I can not drink any decaf, is that true? I though plain coffee is always okay, but why do I feel so poorly.

I switched the brand on one, threw the bag away so don't know what brand or what it said on the bag.

If it says 100% Arabic coffee is it okay?????

I think that you should look elsewhere for the gluten.

How long have you been gluten free. It does take time to heal. Coffee should not be an issue, at least not a gluten issue.

  6. With efforts, I write this post. The fatigue is back big time.

I do have to admit that I do not have much of an appetite and have not in many years. I cook well and explore some great dinners. I can cook some drop dead dinners and I will eat that. But day to day, there is no desire to eat. No, I am not anorexic.

I have been cooking for an elderly friend in her house and toting my pot and pans to her house to cook the meals for two weeks now. Maybe a little stress involved here. But, I am just draggin.

How and what fuels do I need to consume to feel better. Iron fuels, like broccoli.....?

I do think another blood panel is due. Sorry, a little soup cry.

  7. I go to my grandmother's between Canton and Waynesville every summer. Maybe we could meet in Asheville ... know any gluten friendly places there?

Carla, I'm on the ocean side of the state. Asheville is beautiful. I think that this was my first thread after joining the Board. My how time flyies

  8. Dear Lisa B.,

I am celiac in Wilmington, NC. Have you heard of any fellow celiacs in this area. I have only been gluten free since Aug 2006 and really haven't found anyone to relate to.

    Thanks for your help!

    Have a Happy 4th!

    Mary Katherine Talley

    Well Hello Mary Katyherine!

Welcome to the Board. I live up the coast about three hours from Wilmington and I have a daughter who lives in Wilmington.

I am glad that you found this site. It has helped me tremendously and there is nothing about Celiac that someone can't tell you. Feel free to ask any questions of just vent. We ALL can relate here.

    Lisa

  9. I am feeling better since going gluten free, but I am still having D. Im thinking of going without dairy for awhile to see if that is a problem as well as gluten. How long do you think it will take to feel better if dairy is a problem? My quess is one to two weeks. Can I use soymilk as a substitute for milk? My last question is what else do I need to watch out for on a dairy free diet? I hope this makes sense...

It does take some time to feel better and I'm glad that you are. If you villi are damaged it is very hard to digest dairy, so that is why it is recommended to at least be dairy light or eliminate it all together.

Some people feel better almost immediately and others like myself it took 2 months for the D to subside in order to leave the house. I have been gluten free for two years and still find it a challenge.

There are always things ready to get you. I have been cooking for an elderly friend and using her pots and pans and have been sick for several days now. Gluten can hide everywhere.

It is hard to tell in the beginning when you will be able to feel better. Your intestines needs to heal. It took some time to do the damage and equally, time to heal.

Soy milk would be a good substitute for milk and look out for "whey" when you are reading labels - it is dairy derived.

Keep it up and one day you will realize that you DO feel good.

  10. Hope some of you out there can help me with this. I've been gluten-free since maybe Nov/Dec (it took a couple of months to get the hang if it). But my son's home from college now and it's the first time we have gluten in the kitchen. I've been screwing up or having lots of cc issues alot lately.

So, my question is about equilibrium problems. Whenever I'm glutened lately I have problems with my balance. I used to a little when I was really sick, before going gluten free. But this is getting worse. I've walked into walls, etc.

When I had my blood work done in April my B12 levels were fine. I was surprised because I thought maybe it was because of that.

Any ideas what causes this? Any suggestions-- besides nit getting glutened?

Yup, that's me. It cleared up with some b-12 injections and now I take them sublinqually daily (under the tongue). If you take daily prescribed antacids, it also depletes the absorption of b-12 in your system.

You may need to have some blood work-up and make sure everything is in the normal range.

  11. I just did a search here about their "new Formula". I plan to call this afternoon. Has any one gotten confirmation on this new change. Also, I have concerns about dairy in a multiovitamin.

    Thanks, Lisa

    Okay... I just called Centrum

    Centrum Silver (new formula)

    No Casine

    No Lactose

AND the do not add gluten, do not test and cannot guarantee!!!!

BUT the can guarantee the casine and lactose....go figure. ANOTHER CYA STATEMENT.
