Wegman's uses letters to identify the allergens and vegetarian/vegan status. The G is used for Gluten free, the L for Lactose free and the V for Vegan. I thought ketchups were okay, but was worried that it was not labeled with a G for gluten free. Wegman's is usually really good about labeling all of their gluten free products with a G.
Ah, see this country girl learned something. We have a Farmers Foods and Food Lion- both non gluten friendly.
But Ketchup over all is gluten free, unless it's a funky kind. I prefer to choose Heinz.
-
I just realized that the Wegman's ketchup bottle does not have a "G" on the label. It is a V and an L. The ingredients look okay, but I am thinking it must have gluten. I can't find it on the Wegman's gluten free list either. If so, it is going to be a long night because I ate some before I realized. Does anyone know for sure? Thank you!!!!
What is "G", "V" and "L"???
I would expect that most Ketchups are ok.

Ok I clearly missed this thread!!! What the heck is the diva cup??!!!
.... a birth control thing-a-ma- zig?
No longer a diva.

Okay, I have looked and drooled enough.........POST THE CRAB CAKE RECIPE!

We've been really watching initials. Luckily, middle name selection will be the only issue. Like GAG, BAG, SAG, FAG... We just need to mostly stay away from middle names that start with vowels.
Amanda, if we name him Donovan, it will be Donovan Axel. Then he can share Don's initials, DAG.
I'm really open to suggestions because we just can't narrow things down.
Momma Goose... Guhlia Guhl?!?!?! Now that would be an interesting name!
How about Guhlia Goose Guhl.....I would be so proud.

Afraid not. To be sure taking care of all considerations before you leave her there will be the most important thing. It's hard to get anything done once the parents leave. Good luck and good for you, working things out ahead of time.
I do agree with this. Once your daughter turns 18 and after the first semester, you might not even get her grades unless she sends them to you. You can pay for the full tuition, but not be privy to the results.
Which ever school she chooses, I would meet with Human Resources and explain her situation and find out what the college/university will make available to her.
There are several college students her on site. That may be a good resource for her. I am sure that at they will be able to offer some suggestions.
Good Luck

Hey Kelly,
Welcome....This is a wonderful place for support and education.

I guess I would flush them. The waste treatment process may "de-activate" the chemical componets.
Isn't it wonderful to be able to dispose of them after all your years of suffering.

Hi there, newbies and long-timers alike! I'm new as well, and relatively new to being gluten free (a month, and then three days since finding out wheat/gluten is the problem).
Looking forward to getting to know you
Welcome to the Club
There are some really great people here with an immense amount of knowledge. You are in good company. Feel free to ask away. It is always difficult in the beginning.
-
I would recommend that he post his feelings here.
That should remedy the issue.
I am sorry you have such lack of support.

Oh, please! Do not worry about names these days. I have met a Kelby, a Montana, a Dakota, a Tanner, a Blaze, a Blaise, a Blade, a Nyree, a Ronnae, a Tilly... Choose a name you enjoy and don't think twice about it. That Gwennyth Paltrow named her baby Apple! That Julia Roberts named her children Phinneus and something else quite exotic. Angelina Jolie.... If I have to walk past one more magazine cover with Maddox, Shilo, Zahara and whatever new Pitts they come up with... You'd better come up with an interesting name. They're all the rage!
Good grief, this is a nice topic. I think all that salad is making you grumpy.

Ok, so I'm pretty sure we're having a boy, we'll hopefully find out in a few weeks at my last ultrasound. If it's a girl I'm naming her Annika Emily. We're undecided on a boy's name. I'm kind of leaning towards Gunther Henry after our grandparents. Is that a cruel name for a child? Any additional suggestions would really be appreciated. We really can't make up our minds.
A-
Throw in some more family names.
What does Annika mean, a family member? Gunther Henry may be a too grand name for a young child, but I can see "Gunner" as he grows. I knew one, and a very nice young man.
My girls:
Catherine Miles, (Catherine was random, Miles, after hubby's middle name - after grandfather)
Ann Lloyd ( Anne, my middle name, Lloyd after hubby's father's middle name)
In the south, girls can have names like Blake, Simpson, Ellis, Ellison.....Last names are often first here.
But, it's kind of cool to carry on, if not the last, but the first.
OR.. How about "Gulhia"....for a boy, nah

Really .. the only way to stay 100% gluten free is to 'live alone, or marry another celiac' grow your own produce, "shoot your own meat and butcher it" and never go out, or have anyone that comes to visit that isn't celiac. Even shopping in the grocery store ... any grocery store, could have flour dust on many products that are naturally gluten free that are stocked anywhere near the "baking sections" or bakery sections. Do you wash off your packages when you get them home, and remember to never have your hands near your mouth when out? I don't either
but there are lots of times that I can't trace where I got the gluten from, and it could easily come from a package of chocolate chips, or what ever I picked up in the baking section.
We are "social" beings and need to see other humans at some time. There are risks with that, every where, not just fast food places. We pick on Mac Donald's because they are soooooooo easy to pick on. I probably get glutened more often here at home with hubby's stuff, or at my parents place than I ever have at a restaurant.
No matter how careful you are, what you do not see will get you! Bread crumbs near the coffee cannister, or the sugar bowl or........... add anything you can think of ... That just happens to be the life of a Celiac in a Gluten world.
We can only do our best, do our research and choose what is best for us in any given situation.
Hear, hear for you Shirley..."do your research and choose what is best for us", that's the bottom line.
There are many, many posts about about McD's fries. For those that are interested, do a site check.

UNC fell apart in overtime. It was so uncharacteristic of the team. I guess they were worn out and too much pressure. Georgetown play a good game. Too bad that they are out of the final four.

We are big Carolina Fans! It should be quite a game. Go Heels!!!

Well, the ingredients on the bag say "Organic sprouted whole grain wheat, filtered water, organic sprouted whole grain barley, organic sprouted whole grain millet, Organic malted barley, organic sprouted whole lentils, organic sprouted whole soybeans, organic sprouted whole grain spelt, fresh yeast, sea salt. This unique bread is made from freshly sprouted live grains and contains absolutely no flour. "
I've been eating this bread b/c I've been told and I've read that "gluten breaks down during germination and the bulk of the gluten naturally contained in wheat breads breaks
down in sprouted breads." And thus people with wheat or gluten allergies are able to eat sprouted grain breads.
Not this chick.

Always check the sour cream....too many manufacturers put in modified food starch(~ gluten here in the USA) in sour cream. It is nearly always in the little take out individual sour creams.
In the US, when modified food starch is listed, by law they are required to list, if wheat is an ingredient.
It is infrequent that MFS would be derived by wheat, but yes the undeclared possibilities.

I used to subscribe to Southern Living when I lived in Atlanta. It's a great magazine!
I'll have to check out the issue with you in it--I'm going to check tomorrow while I'm out. How exciting
Patti, I don't know if I am and would be tremendously grateful if I'm not. The camera and I are not very good friends. Perhaps, this a delusion on my part.
-
Last year Southern Living Magazine came to my part time work place. They took lots of pictures and much to my dismay many with me.
It is not on the shelf yet, but subscribers should have it by now.
Any forewarning would be appreciated. It should be about Edenton, NC and Edenton Bay Trading Company.

What about a big hot bowl of Cream of Rice, with coconut milk and brown sugar (don't know if sugar is off you list as well)
How about a big bowl of grits, cooked in chicken broth with a few free range eggs. (although, I could not have grits without butter) That may fill him up in the mornings.

so its moms birthday today and we had chinese takeaway- already i feel that balloon like and other less polite issues surfacing which means im in my room away from the social areana...
is this common with takeaway? i would have thought some were worse than others i tried to be careful with my food choices
and STUPID question; but is all wine ok? (i only drink red...)?
Yup, Zansu is correct. Most chinese takeouts or inhouse have wheat in their soy.
I would recommend that you get some Triumph Dining Cards. They are laminated cards in several languages, Chinese among them. I have not ordered Chinese as of yet. I have asked and I find that I can cook chinese better that what they could provide me safely....like steamed, blah, boarding everything.
Others may suggest certain meals that are safe and tasty. I have not been successful.
Regarding the wine...there are some here that react to the sulfites in the wine, but gluten is not an issue.
Hope you can reclaim some of your mothers celebration.

The amount of gluten consumed has nothing to do with the autoimmune reaction. The gluten sets of the reaction which causes the damage.
I do not believe that Kix are gluten free. I do not eat them, but I suspect that they may have malt in them. For this diet to be successfull, he must remain totally gluten free or the healing will not begin and therefore continue not to thrive.
Children do tend to heal faster than adults, so if he is totally gluten free, I would feel that you should see improvement within a months time.
Totally gluten free means, lotions, soaps, toothpaste, play-do... in otherwords, anything that he can touch or put in his mouth.
If you need help with certain products, always feel free to ask. I'll leave the rest to the moms.
