Thank you for your replies. A change is planned.

It sounds that you have had many struggles. I don't have any experience to offer you, but others here can be helpful. This board is often quiet on the weekends, but kicks up on Mondays.
Hopefully, someone will chime in.

I am not so concerned about the spot although a pain. The residue and CC is a concern on the spotty items. Hubby is not gluten free. Can gluteny cuddies rest in the spotty glasses? I don't know what the heat content of the machine. Or, is this a concern taken over the limits.
-
Just a quick question:
I have a lousy dishwasher and there are always spots all over my glasses and dishes.
Should Cascade be a concern.
Thanks, Lisa

Just a quick welcome and off to do dinner. Mighty glad that you have found us. As you know by know, there is a bundle of good information from these folks.

Yup, I think that can happen. The longer you go gluten free, the more extensive the healing. In SOME people I think that the gluten needs to build up for a major reaction. In OTHERS, one crumb will do it.
Every one is different.

Burt's Bees conditioner contains wheat. (the strawberry one)

Big Easy Seafood & Steakhouse - Bethany Beach
Outback - Rehoboth Beach
Both are celiac friendly, but the rule of thumb is alway check with the manager.

Snow, did someone mention snow....?
What does sex and a snow storm have in common?
You never know how many inches you are going to get or how long it's going to last.

HI,
I am in the process of being tested. Results should be in soon. I can't wait for the results, pos or neg. At least I'll know. If it turns out pos I can stop searching for answers and if it's neg, at least I'll have something to mark off the list of possibilities. I hate to wish for a positive dx, but I admit I do. At least then there will be something I can do about the symptoms I have.
Anyway, my question for everyone is, if I turn out to have celiac, or gluten sensitivity, and go gluten free, and I feel better, will I be able to stop taking the medicine I've been on to treat my symtoms? Such as B12 inj, iron, cymbalta and nexium. I hate taking all this stuff. So just wondering if anyone has been able to stop taking medicine and control symptoms by diet alone?
Suzanne
Hey Suzanne:
Welcome! I realized that a positive diagnosis was a good thing as the alternatives were frightening. The diet is a pain and difficult in the beginning. The diet can be easily adjusted to but the learning curve is pretty steep. When you learn to read labels, it becomes a whole lot easier.
To answer your question...it depends on the amount of damage to your intestines. It does take a while for the villi to return to normal and absorb the food you take in. After a year and a half, I occasionally need a B-12 short just for a boost. Some feel better in a matter of days and other like myself took many months to get over my fatigue. I am still not 100%.
If you go totally gluten free, including changing your shampoos, toothpaste, lotions, lipsticks, etc, you body will let you know if you need supplements.
Good luck with your result and please let us know. There are some really great people here that know more about Celiac than most doctors.
Let us know how we can help.

Jeanne: I think this was a reference for people who have multiple food intolerances, that sometimes things like canola (and other oil sources) can cause problems. In terms of Celiac, it is safe. And to my knowledge, there is no link between Celiac and canola (i.e., like Celiac and lactose). I think it was just meant in terms of anecdotal evidence on the board.
Lisa: You can find Smart Balance as easily as Fleishmanns. Smart Balance is different than the brand that Mango mentioned (Earth Balance).
On a hunt for Smart Balance. Last nights challenge was Oyster Stew, with 1/2 and 1/2, butter , L&P Worst. and St. Andre Cheese on gluten-free Crackers. Results in reaction 24 hours later. Nothin' gluten about it.
What a wonderful field of friends we have here. Ask it, and they will come.

OOOOps:
My daughter just callled me after eating a Peter Pan sandwich with the recalled #.
We'll see
24 hours later, Annie is ok. Just thought I would post this, that not everyone will get ill. She should have had a reaction long by now.

Fleischman's Light margarine is gluten/casein/soy free. I'm pretty sure Fleischman's unsalted sticks of margarine are gluten/casein free. I used to buy that but now we avoid soy so I can't.
I use that margarine, coconut oil, and olive oil depending on what I'm using it for. I also use shortening instead of butter in cookies.
oooooh, Fleichman's may be available. Yeah, back to the butter isle. Have you ever had Danish Butter, just to die for.......nope, not going there.
Thanks

Okay, got a question:
Over the past 5 years I have gone from a 14 pant size to a 6 size and a loss of 20 lbs. That is not much as a concern as the muscle atrophy. My limbs are like toothpicks. My arms shake and I can squat down, but have noticeable difficulty getting back up. I despreately need to work out to build back my muscle strenth, and I am still seeking an appetite and motivation for both.
Could Omeprazole (generic for Prilosec) be desolving my muscles?
Steve, if you post, dumb down your answer for the simple minded, please.

Thanks Girls:
As you may already know, we live in podunk, NC in a town of 6,000 peeps. I spend 10 minutes in the butter section and got in everyone's way......ug.
Most I saw had "Whey". Laura, you mentioned a few suggestions, but many have canola in them. I have read here that many do not do well with canola.
Maybe a short trip out of town to Farm Fresh or Harris Teeter will have Ghee, or a longer visit to the butter isle may produce some success.
The quest will continue.
AND, without butter, milk or cheese, what about calcium? I take a pretty good supplement, but I am high risk for osteo.....ghesh
You know, I love to read Jerry's post. His is so entertaining, genuine and considered family in my eyes, but I can relate to his frustration. Got the gluten down, now it's dairy 101.

Thank you for the posts.
Can't a hiatal hernia push other organs out of place (mine is large)
Is there any danger in NOT dealing with this? We are still arguing with the hospital about the cost of my last executive panel.
This is an expensive disease and side effects.
-
When I was dairy free, I used coconut oil (actually, I still do) for almost everything. I used Ghee (clarified butter, but casein free) if I wanted the butter taste.
Thanks Carla
I don't think I can find coconut oil here and I have never heard of Ghee. Where do you find Ghee?
This might be hard, butter is my downfall.
-
I seemed to have reached a plateau, no better, no worse.
I am thinking about eliminating dairy and see how that works. I think Jerry and I are kindred spirits.
What do you substitute for butter for cooking and flavoring?
Thanks, Lisa

Or Zollman's Pavilion!! I remember yes, I COULD remember) looking back one time and seeing that field littered with passed out people. Seemed funny at the time. My 30th reunion is in May and they're having a party at Zollman's.
richard
Zolloman's OMG! I have a vague memory of siting on a friends shoulders singing "Hey, hey baby, I wanna know if you'll be my girl..." The decadence of youth.
Your 30th reunion, gosh richard, now you're making me feel old.
