Thanks for posting regarding the distillation process. Very interesting.
In my case, I have enjoyed Seagrams 7 and Makers for years and have never reacted (only a rare over endulgence) to either. History indicates that I can ejoy it successfully.
And, I don't intend to mess with a good thing.
-
My bottom line is, if it bothers me, I don't eat or drink whatever it is. I need no other information other than that.
-
This is good to know! I hadn't seen this latest statement and it would certainly explain why I (my body) wants to stick to potatoes and anything NOT made originally from gluten!
Same for me. I can drink some liquors, but react to others. Hmmm

Thanks to all of you who took the time to offer anecdotes and advice. You have been a tremendous encouragement to my wife and daughter and I. Nora, I visited the site you listed, and printed off a number of the articles to show to our doctor.
I'm not convinced that we need to go back to the Mayo Clinic at this time. I think we can do the tests you folks recommended from here. We are blessed to have a doctor who is open to check on anything he can to help our daughter. The more I read your personal stories, reference articles and advice, the more I become convinced that Stephanie's neuropathy is caused by celiac disease. I think she has had it for a long time. We have immediately gone on a gluten free diet as a family, and are looking into getting some liquid vitamin and mineral supplements for our daughter. We will contact our doctor next week to share our (and your!) research with him. Hopefully do some tests for celiac disease soon.
I will keep you posted as to Stephanie's progress. Wouldn't it be something if you, in your collective wisdom solved Steph's problem, when the famous Mayo Clinic couldn't?
Thank all of you so much for your concern and input. We'll stay in touch.
Rickops
Godspeed to you and you wife for answers.

Godspeed in your journey.

I am no doctor here, but have you had you blood pressure tested lately? High blood pressure can be the cause of itchiness in the limbs. I am not familiar with your med and not comfortable to comment.
If you have a rash, that is another issue. DH can be a significant side effect of celiac. If so, you need to revisit you diet and make sure that you are TOTALLY gluten free...lotions, shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, bath soap, cosmetics that may come into contact with your mouth.
Do a food diary and write down everything that comes in contact with your mouth. If that shows nothing, they venture onto other food intollergies.(spell check says I made up that word)
Perhaps, just a thought to consider.

You all have been very generous with your time, support and information. I do hope that rickops returns to recieve all this great information.
My heart went out to him and his wife on their quest to find what is wrong with their daughter.
Another testimony here for the good people on this site.

Oooh, it sounds so good. Thanks for posting that and it is on to try list.

...Ehh...
Yeah, this is not a place for this. There are many teens that frequent this board and others younger.
As Ashley said, ehh. Although, not a prude and I enjoyed the humor, I feel this is a misplaced post.

My memory has left me, but I I seem to recall that one of our members lives in Oswego, New York and they already have 100 inches of snow and more is predicted.
Could it be Christian? Adrian?
Please help me remember.

Has anyone had symptoms of dizziness that seem to be related to pressure or swelling behind the eyes. By noon my eyes feel heavy from pressure and it makes me feel nauseous. Is this from Celiac or some other issue? What do you guys think?
I often feel eye pressure, but mine is to to climental change and not due to celiac. Where I live, we go to very humid to very dry weather in a matter of days. I do feel this in the pressure change, in my eyes and sinus.
As always, I am not a doctor, but sometimes dizziness can be an inner ear issue. You may have a small infection that effect both. Eyes and ears can have a common issue.

Barb:
Mntdog here on this site would be a wonderful person to talk to. She also has a passion for riding and we have talked about this at great length.
I have had horses for manyyears but that was before me being dx's with celiac. I would expect that there would be a high level for CC, with oats, barley, dander from the fields where they poop and roll. When you daughter is grooming there is a high probability that she is grooming dried (horse apples) that contain oats, rye, barley and wheat.
She may breathing the dust and dander into her noise and getting into her mucous and ingesting by swallowing. Also, she may be putting her hands near her mouth at any time during riding. The dust from the ring also could be inhaled and swallowed.
If you love horses, it is a passion. Try this...If she is willing to wear a surgical mask while grooming and riding that might help and also gloves while grooming.
I know what it would be like to leave a passion, but try some alternatives and see if they help. Horses and daughters....there is no better a connection. I do hope that you can work it out.
Hope this helps.

I have no experience with hair weaving and not sure whether that could cause a reaction. Perrhaps the shampoo or other product at the salon may have wheat products in them. The false nails possibly could because of the glue to attach them (although, again no experience) and it may be connected to putting your nails in your mouth.
I think that the bacon should be ok, but I always buy Oscar Meyer because it tastes the best and verified gluten free. Hormel is always a good product to buy, because they will always list gluten.
Try to trace you intake back a day or so and make sure that every thing that you have consumed has been gluten free.
Hope that helps.

I sense your grave concern in your post. I have celiac, but my children do not. I have often posted that I have great admiration for parents will illl children. My heart goes out to you.
With your family history, there is a strong probabily that there may be a celiac connection.
I do not have much knowledge on the subject for you but others that have posted here do. So I will defer to them. Often this site is fairly quiet on the weekend, so please be patient untill more experience shows up.
Have you done a search here? I hope that you get your answers quickly.

The CSA has recently declared that all distilled liquors remove the gluten in the process.
I am able to drink Seagrams 7 and Maker's Mark with no issue. I don't feel comfortable with Jim Beans and Jack Daniels though.
I know that Maker's Mark is listed on gluten free list. If you are not a big drinker, you can be one or two of the mini's.
If it turns out, please share the recipe.

I've been going through something similar for a week now. I am revisiting all my personal products and making a few inquiries from companies for the new products that I have introduced.
With a one time gluten, it takes me about three days to feel better. I usually don't have digestive issues but more motor issues and a dry mouth is my first indicator. It is also very difficult to type as my fingers are all over the keyboard and shake terribly.
I suspect that it is the new face lotion that I have been using for over a week now.
Hope we both feel better soon.

I'm sorry Lisa, I wasn't referring to everyone being catty, just the few who are. My mother has always taught us, "If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all!"
I will not mention another word about Steve, I never lied and was not mistaken--the proof is in his posts.
I knew what you meant. But this is a dead dog and I would say the same thing to Steve if he was awake across the pond
Let's move on. We have other issue to tend to.

Deb:
I have sat back and watched this whole thread from the beginning to the end.
Everyone on this board is here for the purpose to share pertinent information, asking concerning questions and seeking support due to Celiac and it's related issues.
Your general statement that the forum is "catty", does a grave disservice to the good work done here.
When it gets down to it, your argument was between you and Steve. In the end, it is nothing but a match between wills and serves no support purpose what-so-ever on a public forum.
Why don't you both walk away and place that energy on being helpful to those that ask.

Diana:
I am sorry the he feels so bad. If I recall correctly, Tums are not gluten free. Perhaps Mylanta may help a little bit better. Hope he feels better soon.
Lisa
edit: Tums may contain trace amounts of gluten.
