I have had symptoms of IBS as long as I can remember, and that's a long time. About six years ago I lost my appetite and had no interest in food, and I lost about 20 pounds, apparently for no reason at all.
Then, through a period of high stress on the job, I developed burning D which was totally uncontrollable. I was unable to leave the house. At home, I had to get to the bathroom in five seconds and I got there in six. It was not pretty and in disgust, I through out alot of good jeans. I continued to loose weight and the fatique was unbelieveable. Finally, my Prim Dr. has no answers for me and he sent me to a gastro. guy that had the bedside manner of a dead fish and I paid he out my butt. I had an endoscopy and a colinoscopy. The scope confirmed villi damage consistant with Celiac He had no personal contact with me. His nurse pract. said that I had Celiac and they sent my on my way.
I had no instruction, or information, nothing.
I changed doctors, and had a weekly B-12 shot, that worked miracles for my energy. I am pretty much ok now, but I do have ups and down. One day I feel good, another no so good. I am in control of the D and can live a real life now.
Thank goodness I found this site. I truely do not know what I would do without everyone here. If I have never thanks each of you, I do now.
Thats my story in a nut shell.

That certainly will be helpful to many, Thanks
I also wanted to say when buying makeup, bring a magnifing glass with you as the ingredences are so small that a gnat couldn't even read them.

I take a generic prilosec in the morning and one at night, but recently, I have the need to take a zantec in the early afternoon to ward off stomach acid. I know that I have high stress, because of my daughter wedding in a week and ana a half Mylanta seems to good by me for the interum and hopes that after this is over the acid will subside.
I also have a large hiatal hernia, which is not a great help during this time, and most likely is the cause of my acid stomach and bloating in the afternoon.
I have learned that all maladies are celiac related. Maybe when the dust settles, I will get the hernia fixed.
Ug, let me live through this next week, please.....

I really can't answer you question. It does sound strange to have fat/oilly urine. Fatty stools, is very common with Celiac and malabnorbsion Perhaps a little more information on you and what your eating and your symptoms would help answer you questions.

Ursula - Vincent:
I know first hand that these drugs for treating ADHD most importantly need to be monitored. I have seen it cause some critical situations. I am not saying that the drugs are bad and there truely is a need for some, but the monitoring is very essential. Especially in young people. A young person with many issues, Adderall, or other similar meds can be a potentially deadly combination.
If any of you have a loved on on these drugs, please be attentive to them.

Why don't you take a rice cake with PB& Jelly with you for a mid morning snack.

Brain fog and anxiety is a very natural thing that comes with Celiac Disease.
The best thing for You to do is to read eveything that you can possibly do on this site to learn about this Disease.
It may be possible that you mother may need a mild anti-depresant to relax her a little.
The diet is fairly strick, but not unenjoyable.
If you need help with foods that are exceptable, please post that and someone will be more than glad to help you.

Peter,
Will you come to my town and open up a store. We can hook you up. All you need to do is lean how to sweat with ease in August. (We'll show you how)

Lisa - you're dead on!
My fiance' works in a fine-dining restaurant - and when he's not eating taco bell, he likes to go out for nice meals
-- kind of wants to be served after serving others all day...... and I always feel bad that our meals are full of so many questions and clarifications!
He's so patient and understanding (I'm truly blessed)....but as a manager he gets a lot of picky picky people in his restaurant and all complaints come to him, so I know he feels for me when we eat out - but also for the busy busy server AND the manager who doesn't want to risk getting me sick.
I call ahead as much as possible - but it's amazing how much mis-information is out there - even in fine dining restaurants!!!!
Although, I must admit I enjoy the occassional baked potato while out. I'm too lazy to wait for a "real" one at home and the microwave variety aren't nearly as good!!!
And to make things worse, why would you want to spend $20.00 plus, for an entry with no sauce, not seasoning, no nothing which makes a good meal great. - ohh hhh, uggg - I could go out in my back yard and graze on the grass..........oops, can't do that, it's RYE GRASS. Screw me.
-
I know what your are going through. After I was dx'd in August, I spend all my time learning. Lord knows, I still have so much to learn and I make mistakes alot. Even though I have mistakes, the outcome is not nearly as bad as it was in the beginning. I seem to have alot more, alot more control over bathroom marithons. (ie. can I get to the bathroom, when it is six seconds away) Thank goodness, I believe that I am over that stage.
Now on the the new one. Sometimes I get really angry. My husband and I have always enjoy quality restaurant food. I am a very good cook and get no regrets for dinner at my home. But, I have lost that choice of having a very nice meal served to me, tired of asking for the chief, when he is at his busiest time (I know, go at off hours and talk, been there done that)., eating a hamburger without the bun and the infamous friggen baked potato. I get for frustrated, I get mad and I feel sorry for myself.
Then what........your cook for your company and friends, and when you go out you still order the frigging baked damn potato.
This too will pass and on to anothe stage of my life.

I used to this with regular pasta, and have never used rice pasta or whatever (bless me I hate pasta)
Add olive oil
Oiled sun dried sun roasted tomatoes
Mario's Black Olives
Chopped onions
Garbonzo Beans, or Kidney beans or whatever you choose
Little crushed red peppers
Basil, Tyme, Oregano, or Dill
Pimentos
Slice-up salame (sp)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Garlic Salt
Parsley, or fresh basil
Pesto sauce- basil and olive oil
Fresh tomatoes
Green onions, or chives
I would not use all, but any mixture would work. Anything can go into pasta salad.
I used to also make fresh tortalino's with fresh tomatoes, cucs, onion with a balsamic vinegar dressing and sprinkled with fresh graded parmasan

Yes,
Check anything that may get into your mouth. I use Dove shampoo and soap, Lubriderm lotion, Crest toothpaste, and burts bees lip glosses and some Clinique. Hope that will get you started.

Are you certain? I've not had that experience in a restaurant, haven't seen that in a recipe, and can't imagine that at all - the two tastes simply do not go together in any salad dressing recipe I can imagine.
I will check the brand that they use next time I go...will let you know.

I am not the best reference for you. But I would suggest that you check your meds to make sure they are gluten free.
If your intent is to be totally gluten free, it is a major challenge in the beginning. Anything that comes close to your mouth (shampoos, soap, facial crean) should be checked. Please post and "Nini" has the beginners kit for you to start with.
Many of us have has B-12 shots to get us over the malabnorbsion issues in the beginning. It was wonderful to me.
The posts are usually quiet on the weekends, plus this being a US holiday, you may not get a lost of hits.
If you have specific questions, let me know. It is a difficult journey in the beginning, but it does get better.
Let me know if you have question and I am sure that others will post in the beginning of the week.

Dana: I am in North Carolina as well, but not near you. Contact Duke, or is there a hospital at Carolina that can help you. You need a gastro doctor. I have no names to give you, but they certainly could recommend a go gastro doctor what you could pull in. Pull up the University system of medical personel and perhaps you can find someone.
It sound urgent, I would recommend that you call the Duke Human Resources department and ask away to find someone who can be helpful.
Good luck, Lisa

Rusla:
Again good to see you back. Work you magic and no rain on June 10th.

It is very possible that you have celiac disease. A blood test could confirm, but not if you have been gluten free. Or, you could go on a gluten free diet and confirm that by yourself, by feeling better. I was dx'd by a biopsy that confirmed the blunting of of villi of the small intenstines.
The board is usually slow on the weekends and with this being a holiday weekend, it may be until Tuesday that you get some really good answers.
Your have options:
1. Go gluten fee - which includes, shampoo, face lotion, lipsticks..or any thing that can get into your mouth.
2. Eat gluten as usual for a month and have a blood test, or the gold standard is the Endoscopy exam.
3. Try a blood test to check for Celiac (others will post for the exact test, as I have not done that)
Hope that will get you started.

i was running errands on saturday morning and was soooo hungry I was about to pass out. I forgot my snacks that i usually carry around with me, and the only thing in sight was a McDs. I went in and got some hash browns (reluctantly). Luckily, I was just fine and they tasted sooo good. Again, not for everyone, but i seem to be just fine with them.
What crittter is that, I thought that we had all of them when the girls were little.

I know that when you order Balsamic Dressing in restaurants, it often contains soy sauce. That has been my unfortunate experience.
-
Yeah, I thought it was nini, but not sure. Thanks for passing that one.

As far as flavoring your food, McCormike's grinders are always good for me....all natural dryed herbs.
