  1. I would suggest a full blood work panel to see what difficencies that you may have. Perhaps a vitamine inbalance. Those of us with celiac, it is always good to do that several times a year to make sure that we are getting what we need to have our body function as well as it can.

  2. I work with wonderfully nice very overweight people whom I love. But sometimes I complain that I am so thin that I won't wear short, ever. I am trying to gain, but , just don't. I am 5'8" and 123lbs. My torso is average, but my bottom, arms and legs are very thin. It's the pits to try to find clothes.

I used to be a size 14 in pants because of my tummy. Now I buy size 6's. My proportions are all out of wack. Most women would love to be a size six, but trying on clothes with a full length mirror is quite a depressing event. I even have to sit on a pillow at home, because of my tail bone constricts my vertibraes.

New years resolution is to try to build back muscle at the gym...hope I keep it.

  3. Nancy,

I also cannot pinpoint your problems with out getting specific about the brands that you are using.

I have been "attempting" to be totally gluten free since August. It is terrible painstaking job. I know your frustrations. Believe me, I have thrown out a couple of good jeans in disgust. :(:P

When I get glutened, I go back to the basics that I am positive that it is gluten free. I am starting to branch out in my home cooking and my family is eating well. Gumbo over rice tonight.

May sure that you study everthing that you put in your mouth, check things at work or cross contamination at home. Check you shampoos, face soap, lipstick....anything that can get into your mouth. For instance, where I work part-time I handle beer and scones/mix, then I lick my hands to get the tissue into the dressed bags. I feel that the little gluten I get, the little effect, the more gluten I get the more severe reaction that I get. And the longer that I stay gluten free the longer it takes to get a reaction to being glutened.

I hope that this will help and if you need to know some specific brands of food or toiletries, please write me back as other will help as well.

    Be patient, it takes time

Yup, two daughters, 22 and 24. Catherine working in Wilmington, NC as a Chemist, Annie is still at home and working on her BA in Early Education. She is getting married in six months and I am starting to freak.

Everyone that she has ever met, she wants at the wedding. Whoe is me!!!

Go for it babe, you will never regret it if you both want children. My mother was 42 when I was born. If this is in your heart and your husbands, do it. You can rise above the celiac issue to bring a precious unioned soul into your life.

    xxoo

  5. It is wonderful to see some many new menbers here, welcome.

I would like to find out what everyones reation time is to being glutened. I am still, by far, not healed, but feeling much better. Although I have had a few ACCIDENTS ( and I really mean accidents)

I seem to have a 24 hour distance, between glutened and reaction time. I know that everyone is different in sensitivity, but and curious as to others.

Lipton ONION mix makes a wonderful beef stew.

Brown some stew meat in corn oil. Add two envelopes of Liption ONION mix and enough water to cover the meat through cooking time. When meat starts falling apart and tender add slices carrots an pealed potatoes cook until tender. Add some french herbs, and my secret some real better. Serve with some gluten free cornbread. (forgot add some Sherry, or Marsella Wine or Sweet Vermouth, yum)

A wonderful cold night supper. (also good for breakfast ;)

    Hope you enjoy.

  8. Karen:

Just to verify...all Kraft products that lists vinegar, they are safe and good for us to buy?

Vinegar always throws me for a loop. With Kraft, when they list vinegar, it is always ok? But if it lists malt vineager, obviously is is not ok.

So....with that said, I can buy Kraft Barbeque Sauce the lists vineager and it will be safe?

Still learning after all these months, probably after years..........

    Hugs back, Lisa B.

  9. Tina:

I too have a LARGE Hiatal Hernia. My DR. prescribed Omeprazole 20mg. (generic for Prilosec), one in the morning and one at night. This seems to help my Hernia symptoms (gas, burning, bloating)

Other than that, the only help for a Hernia is surgery. Try to get a perscription from you DR. and if that will not help you inquire about surgery. I am good doing what I am doing.

Hope this will be helpful. :)

  10. Life sometimes gives you roller coaster rides, in addition to gluten issues.

My husband retired about five years ago. He was gone 3-5 days of the week and I was here raising two girls for 20 years. He was used to traveling 575 miles per hour, and I feel today that he travels at that speed since retired :o

My daughter is getting married in six months. We run three households for those who cannot.....uh, there is point here?

Oh yeah, life has it's own stress and celiac explodes them all. My celiac went in to high gear through a period of high stress so my new doctor thought that a small dose of anit-depres. would help the healing process/or not irritate it. Reluctantly, I started with Lexipro. I have had a great response to it.

This has worked out to be helpful to me and it has helped to "center" my life and choose my priorities, and deal with them in a controlled manner.

I hope that this will be helpful.

  11. You're right Abby about the butter dish and try and buy the mayo in those squeeze bottles, they are hard to cross contaminate. You can do ketchup, mustard etc. in those bottles too :D Makes life easier if you have guests that will tend to "forget".

And don't get too angry with them when they do ... Some things are so automatic in kitchens that it is easy to just do it. I had problems with using the 'wrong' pepper and such when I was first diagnosed, and I finally just grabbed all my spices and gave them to mom to get them out of the house. Now everything in my spice rack is gluten free.

    Shirley:

What's wrong with the pepper  I don't recall any warnings about pepper. Should we ground our own????

  12. To add to Shirley's post: I use..........

    Pantene/Dove Shampoo and conditioner

    Oil of Olay, Dial Soap

Berts Bees - lip balm, and colored gloss

    Lubriderm - lotion

Bare Essentials Make-up (which I can't find here)

    Clinique - Lipstick

(Loose your chapstick) - a sad day in my life.

This may give you a start until you can research on your own to find your own personal brands that are gluten free. It took me a few month of very intense study to find a starter place and then I was able to branch out with additional knowledge. Be patient...it will come. You won't find this in a book, in a doctors office for sure, hospital dietitian, or neighbors and friends..........your answers are here and research on the internet.

If you have a question, surely one of the 8,000 of us can answer your questions. My advise is to ask as many questions you may have, be patient as healing may take a long time and be diligent for your health and your long life.

I am now very cool with the diet. I am now dealing with friends who invite us out for dinner and say "just try one bite, it can't hurt you". I am learning to stand my ground, but yet, be pleasant to my host.

Good luck to you and take things in stride. The hard part is to get you mind where you body needs to be.

    Patience..........and you will feel better.

    Let us know..
