  1. Thanks Tiffany, major glutened today, can't spell, can't walk straight, don't want to do anything and feels like a zombie.......I don't know what else to say, be I think this a good thing that I am going to bed, Good night, and happy Thankgiving to all in the US and also wishes for those in Canada.

  2. I'm still trying to figure that out. Gluten free (as best I am able) since late August. I am still healing so it is hard to figure out the healing or glutened.

I also do not know now what my sensitivity is. Time will tell. I was glutened either yesterday or today and I can't figure the source. (As posted on today's post)

Time and patience and a food journal would work. I have not done that but it is wise to do.

Don't know whether I am much of a help but maybe for someone.

  3. First of all, I can't tell you a date of the article because a friend mailed it to me and no date was included.

    "Choices Grow for Wheat-Free Diets"

It included Wal-mart and Whole Foods Market that through popular demand, companies are scrambling to redesign their foods for the gluten free market. It also quotes Scott as saying the people with Celiac Disease are bombarding company with questions about gluten. It also states that Celiac support groups now have 95,000 member, up from 40,000 in 2003.

Other non-celiacs are also choosing this diet because they feel it is healthier for them. The FDA isn't required to come up with a rule defining "gluten free" until 2008 under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act.

Slow, but progress. It would not hurt to have 95,000 people write their Congressman/woman and Senators and let them know how you feel.

    Keep calling companies :)

  4. This is a quick question. Do you all feel comfortable ordering restaurant Balsamic Dressing on your salads?

I think this is glutening me. Sometimes I bring you own dressing, but today I ordered the restaurants dressing.

Last nights dinner was ribs with Emeril's Original and Lindberg wild rice blend (both gluten-free according to Delfi)

"D" issues today after salad at lunch.

    Whacha think?

  5. I am sorry for your daughter. It seems worse sometimes when you are dealing with your children. It is easier for an adult to deal with celiac disease factors.

I would suggest that you give grandma some suggested menus that would be suitable for your daughter. Give her a list of what is good ie. gluten free eggos, eggs, oscar myer bacon, gluten free biscuits, fresh fruit cut up.

Add a list of safe foods for lunch.

I am sure that she ment not harm. Offer some 3x5 index cards that have safe foods for her to reference.

    I hope that will help.

  6. I have never been a fan of breakfast food (other than Denny's, and that's out). I usually plan enough leftovers that would be suitable for breakfast. Rice, sausage, beef, mashed potatoes and I love wild rice or a mixed blend of wild rice for morning. (I also add Herb Ox- Chicken broth in the water to add a richer flavor to make it not so blah).

I have also discovered Amy's gluten free frozed entrees, which I love for breakfast.

Or, if you like breakfast food, at a good health food store you can find some gluten-free cereals. Gillian's cin. & raisan breakfast rolls are pretty good.

    Hope you find some alternatives.

  7. I too, feel the same as Mart. There are so many of you the have guided me through the roller-coaster of Celiacland. Karen for her everpresent suppost, Kaitie for her everpresence, Richard, the word of an expert, Shirley, for thinking that everyone should know how to milk a goat, Tiffany for her knowledge and great research, celiac3270 who will do great things in his life. (esp. "You know You're a Celiac if...)

I don't mean to leave anyone out. You guys are my C-friends and I would like to meet you all some day.

Thank you, all of you for your help, in guiding me through this disease. :):)

    Best of Thanksgiving to All.

  8. I don't know much about MS, but I looking in to it now. I have a first cousin with MS and I have not seen her in many, many years and don't communicate because of distance.

I have muscle weakness and my hands and arms sort of tremer, almost spastic. I don't know whether this is gluten or something that I need to watch for. Before going gluten free, I would catch myself walking sideways and getting on and off a dock, my balance was all messed up, that I almost had a panic attach. I froze and had to ask my husband to help me. I have always been around boats and jumping on board was never an issue.

Sometimes, I can't even type because my fingers are all over the place. I hope that this is a gluten issue, but concerned about MS.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

  9. Hey Random

Welcome here. To you questions: 1. Gluten is gluten, toxic to your system if you feel the discomfort or not and it will cause damage to your intestines. 2. Cross continination will also cause you damage to your small intestines whether you feel the result to the damage or not.

I don't know what it is like to be non-symptomatic, although I most likely was for five or six years preceeding my "kick-in phase" or celiac.

I had no appeitite, food was boaring, and uneventful. I had no desire to eat for five years preceeding my kick in period. Perhaps that was my non-symptomatic period, but I feel that the damage was done during the kick in phase.

Try to be totally gluten free. HOWEVER, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you are going to be tested further i.e endoscopy and biopsy, YOU CONTINUE TO BE TOTALLY ON A FULL GLUTEN DIET for minimum of 30 days.

Evaluate yourself and decide what you need to do. And if you have any questions this is the place to be. You will recieve more knowledge here than you will from most medical doctors as celiac disease is very new the the field. Educate yourself is our best policy.

    Best of luck

    Lisa B.
