They finally wrote me back and said, "No, the recipes on the website are not the same ones we use in the actual restaurant. We refer you back to the gluten-free menu."
I was disappointed, but not surprised. I wrote them one last time and said, "Thanks for confirming what I'd heard... that your food is essentially TV dinners that you reheat and are not cooked on the premises."
Oh well...
Perhaps so and but disappointing. I ate there yesterday, because it was a choice of friends. And as mentioned in other threads of late, it's not the food, but the fellowship. I ate and enjoyed my time.
And although the options are very slim, they are suitable for business people or guest to have a meal with friends or family. Olive Garden may not be everyone's choice, but it IS an option. (slim, but an option)

The best think they could do on the Hoda and Kathy Lee Show is to have Joy Baurer on the show, from the Today Show. As in the past, she truly knows her stuff and is knowledgable and very much aware of the current issues with Celiac Disease, diet and marketing.
I corresponded with her about a year or so ago on a segment she did....to follow up on the mess of a segment Dr. Snyderman did on Celiac. She was responsive and wrote me a lovely reply in appreciation.
And on Hoda, well....Don't we all know a Hoda. They don't want to date one, have one out to dinner, much less cook for one so picky. And as someone already said, they don't want to invite us because they don't want to make us feel uncomfortable when we just don't "fit it in". Well, those people are not my friends, and I can just as easily change the channel in the morning ...and I do. As disappointed as I am, Hoda does not change the barometer in my life. Nor should she yours.
She expressed her opinion, and is entitled to that, just as we are here on this forum. She's not a convert. I would throw my efforts around to Joy Bauer, should you choose. Joy will make a difference, in her proper way with her little bitty self.
....jmho

Hello everyone! I'm new to this! Iv been on this diet now for 6 days..I need suggestions or even someone who understands and is in the same boat as me! Any advice is greatly appreciated
Welcome...now what does you diet consist of? And what is the reason for such a restrictive diet? (If you have posted this previously, I appologize for the query)
...i.e. what boat are you in.

Never been a problem with me, but always check the ingedient listing. Hanover, is generally cheaper and they are a "full listing" company. Of course "beans" can consist of may different ingredients as in chilli beans or flavored beans.

Hello,
I have been struggling with IBS for 3 years now. I have talked to doctors about it, but they look at me crazy and tell me to reduce my dairy intake. Now, I'm trying to find out what is causing the IBS myself; I have decided to take a food allergy IgG test. I used to eat a lot of wheat products: Whole wheat toast for breakfast; then a turkey sandwich for lunch; and a wheat roll with dinner. I ate a lot of pasta. For the past few months my diet has been gluten light. I gave up coffee, soy, dairy, and wheat for 7 days last week and felt so much better; but I would like to know specifically what foods I'm sensitive to before eliminating multiple food groups. I have never been gluten or wheat free (longer than 7 days), so is it necessary that I do a gluten challenge for 3 months? How long should I eat gluten heavy before getting an IgG test?
Hello and welcome!
If you have been gluten light for some time, I would think it would be reasonable that two-three week on a full gluten diet would be appropriate for testing. A three month challege is no longer the norm....lucky you!
I would suggest that you eliminate one food at a time, begining with gluten/dairy. And add back diary after several weeks.....after testing.
Good luck!

Well, I guess Laura has not been back since her first post on 3-20-13

Umm.....it's me again....
It's so great to celebrate a life, rather than the loss. Time will heal and the memories will eventually find a smile.

My little one is now 19 months old, was diagnosed about 3 months ago now. Her iron levels have been low since before diagnosis but were not treated as weren't "too low". We switched from milk (which we worried was making her worse anyways) to formula to add in some iron but her pulmonologust just started her on iron supplement in addition to the formula with iron. Since she has started it she is now suffering from constipation and get backed up to the point of projectile committing everything she has taken in. Then, she commits and pukes and is good for a day buy the one after that same thing occurs.
Anyone else had this problem with iron? Any ideas of how to better manage it for her? I am trying to give lots more water and juice and increased her veggies but she really is not much if an eater, especially with this tummy trouble
any other parents with kids on iron with similar problems or advice?
Hate seeing her in so much pain and hate to see the food we work so hard to get her to take in to just come back out!
Yes! please consult with your doctor. Iron is vey hard to digest, for adults ....much less baby children.!!! She may have allergies at 3 months, but Celiac is only on issue when gluten is introduced. At three months, your daughter should still be on formula. Who diagnosed her?

Yes, I. And I believe it's common. And when I get glutened, I get digestive issues in both directions.

She said she wouldn't want to date a man that wanted to eat gluten-free at a restaurant. That wasn't a real man. Kathielee tried to say but what if it was medically necessary but Hoda said some thing like " well, just don't order something that would have gluten. Don't ask if something has gluten". I doubt she has any food sensitivities or she wouldn't be like that. It's not much different than asking if it has garlic in it.
Where was this " apology"?
Guess she thinks that a date ordering something guten free in a restaurant is not "manly". Guess she should lower her standards to "normal" . Guess CNN is a better choice in the morning.
Her apology consisted of "I did not mean to offend anyone" and threw up her hands and laughed it off.

Wow....here is one!

Guess we better just stay at home.
I'm thinking we need an e-mail blitz to offer correct information.

As a professional journalist, I thought Hoda was good. But, paired with Kathy Lee, the both are just plain obnoxious!
I could not get the links to work for me, but I did see a half-hearted apology to the gluten free community, today. And the genesis for her apology, was unclear to me. But, it was apparent that she got some flack for a previous statement. I do think she has some food issues as well. She won't food test/taste on the show, or very little.

YES! Good Job Susan, or Suzzells. You can put it out there and hope that it's accepeted. That's all you can do. You did good.

I think I would just buy the egg whites in a carton and use what the package calls for...seems like it would be cheaper since you wouldn't be having to find a use for all the yolks.
I appreciate all the suggestions and have put some to use. But, this is by far the most practical use/method ever! Duh... Thank you so must for that suggestion Karichelle!
Some times we (or I) get too far into the forest to see the trees.

I concur with the above peeps.
Good advise.

Is there anyone who can help me out here? I need a substitute for Tums that I can use when I'm feeling glutened. They're kinda my go to for settling my stomach, but when I'm glutened I go overboard with them for a few days, which is just gonna make me sicker in the long run. I've come up dry so far.
Anyone have any ideas or advice!?!? I don't wanna end up with milk alkali or something stupid.
Yeah, too many tums can send you to the rest room, although it's rich in calcium. Gotta find a balance.

I'm wondering if it's possible to have mild ataxia symptoms that last 2 or 3 weeks after glutinization. I have occasional coordination problems, and slurred speech for a while, then it stops for a day, then comes back...this lasts about 2 or 3 weeks then ends. Other neurological symptoms like twitches, tingles etc come and go too. Anxiety is heightened as well, some of it because I fear other illnesses, but even though I can talk myself out of that intellectually, the anxiety remains.
Have you had a panel test for your mineral and vitamines tested? (It used to be called an Executive Panel) B-12 and Folic Acid are common in deficiency for many of us. Your symptoms are not uncommon. It could simply be an inbalance. Check it out.

After several trials and error, I have settled on Benzepril HCL. I went through three other prescriptions due to hives and insane itching.
Living with Celiac Disease gave me the ability to trouble shoot a situation. I examined everything that went into my mouth on a regular basis.
I was taking a Fish Oil suppliment with my blood pressure meds and cholestrol meds. Apparently, for me, it was reactive. I stopped the Fish Oil and the itching left after about a weeks time.
Everyone is different, but hope this helps. Getting old sucks!
If you doctor can't find a good fit for you, get a new doctor!

I'm a firm believer that you get what you get when you eat out. And most time you need to plan ahead and do your homework.
I live in a small town, with a restaurant who is not too willing to explore gluten free options for their clients. I DO know what to order, as we do weekly. Most waitresses know me, others are new, but attentive. Friday evening, I ordered a Ceasar Salad without bread or croutons. It arrived with hushpuppies.........why does the kitchen make choices for me??? I sent it back, and our server said to the facilitator , "just take them off". I was not happy. Our waitress knows me well.
While I did not request my money back, the tip was greatly reduced, and I intend to talk to the proprietor. (translateed: Ginny was a b%$@# and I seriously will talk to Brian about this)!

Yumm caramel creme brulee...on my short list of favorites. I printed it out. Thank you.

I ordered four boxes of Kinnikinnick Angel Food Cake Mix, since I have not had my favorite cake in over six years and it's strawberry season here.
I am a bit dismayed when the additional ingredients call for 12 egg whites. Not a worry about the egg whites, but what to do with a dozen egg yokes. Any suggestions?
I must have this cake with sugared strawberries and the juice and whipped cream and it summer and stuff.

I think this is exciting! I've been gluten free for almost nine years. And I love the progress. I am certain that it won't fit everyone's shoes, but I love what's happening in the market place. (I hope it's not disected so much, that it's pulled from the product listing). We are a wide scope of peeps.
Thanks for posting this Karen.

I'm not sure what the grass feed hot dogs are, or what brand to identify them. And I don't do Silk, so...I guess I'm not too helpful, but attentive.
Does My 9 Year Old Have To Be Scoped After Testing Positive On A Celiac Panel
in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Posted
As many of us have experienced an endoscsopy exam, I can say it's not a big deal at all. Went to sleep for 15 minutes, woke up and drove home (had a driver) and got a good day's sleep. It also can indicate the level of damage due to Celiac and may be instrumental in time of recovery. In my optionion and MRI will not be significant regarding Celaic Disease.
I would think that a diagnosis would be cheaper than any doubt about any illness that may come your way, in the long run. And it will server as an insentive for a young man to stay on track, as he gets older and independent, as well as official documentation (high school/college). And I, as well, always recommend that anyone with a digestive issue, have baseline testing.
As a positive serologic test, can be a positive diagnosis. You will have to decide to have support testing with the endoscopy testing.
You are smart to educate yourself....make the best decision based on your research and, as a mom.....listen to your heart. It will guide you.
