  1. I love Pamela's Chocolate Cake Mix. I'm not so fond of the Vanilla Cake Mix. I do, make the pound cake recipe that's on the bag. I add Health Bar Chips and Coconut and it's wonderful with no calories ,
  2. That story made the AP wires. I read about here first, then in my local paper this morning. Quite disheartening isn't it? I would like to think there are only a few, among thousands of careful companies.

    ARCHIVED Uhhhh.....

There has been a problem with the data base. Some posts may have been lost. Hopefully it has been resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience.
  4. Welcome Chrisd, Testing children under the age of 5 is known to be unreliable. Testing for adults is not what we would like regarding accuracy. There is a gene test that could be done, regardless of the gluten status of your son. Celiac tendency can be inherited. Perhaps you or your husband have had digestive issues. I always hate it when...
  5. The latest stats I have indicates 1 of 22 first-degree relative tested positive for Celiac Disease. The Celiac gene may be inherited making you predisposed to the illness. Although, there is no guarantee that you will develop Celiac.
  6. This made me laugh out loud!! SOME times you just have to suck it up. Maybe you go with the bride-to be and help select a bridesmaid dress that you might get some use of it after the wedding.
  7. Open Original Shared Link Maltodextrin can be derived from any starch. In the US, this starch is usually rice, corn or potato; elsewhere, such as in Europe, it is commonly wheat. If it is maltodextrin is derived from wheat, it must be listed by US labeling law.
  8. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?autocom=blog Here is the blog section on this site.
  9. I'm not sure I understand your question, but here goes... If you get sick after eating gluten, you are at the least gluten intolerant/sensitive, have a gluten allergy, or have Celiac Disease. That is something that would would know without a doctor - gluten makes you sick. If you have Celiac Disease you will get sick, in addition, the autoimmune reaction...
  10. What a nice offer mamaw.
  11. sorry, never mind. .... I was just going to say, that skinnyasparagus did not mention what specific testing she had which prompted her to go gluten free nine months ago.
  12. Sometimes barley, malt and rye (and some oats) can hide in "Spices" and "Natural Flavors". In that case, you may need to call the company. Here is a list of great companies who will clearly list ALL forms of gluten: Open Original Shared Link Make sure you check your vitamins, meds, lotions, lipsticks/balms as well
  13. Welcome Andy, Wheat is considered one of the top allergens that must be listed by law. Barley, malt, and rye do not have to be listed and yes, they often can hide in spices or natural flavors. Under the US labeling law, barley, malt and rye are not required to be listed. It is common practice to look for companies who will clearly list ALL forms...
  14. Rubber Bands for your hair! Give it a new definition, doesn't it?
  15. Welcome, I hope that you are under the care of a professional at this time. What medical consultation or testing have you had?
  16. When your intestines are damaged, most food will bother you until some healing can take place. I would stick to foods that are easy on your tummy at first. Imitation crab meat is a no-no. Some here have other intolerances. It might be too soon to tell. Get the gluten out, and then you might know about other issues.
  17. After nine months gluten free, it's not unusual for negative testing. You may not be able to get a diagnoses due to the fact that you are off gluten, but it might be fair to say that you have at the least a gluten intolerance and/or gluten allergy, as indicated by your occasional symptoms. Be careful about your diet and make sure no gluten is surprizing...
  18. I would continue to seek medical advise. Have you had him tested for food allergies? What are his symptoms?
  19. It will get easier. I have seen some wonderful changes in the last few years.
  20. I can't imagine a possible connection. How and why was your two years old suspected of Celiac? If that is the case, there is no cure other than diet (at least for now).
  21. Open Original Shared Link Although I was glad to see this article today, it is not totally accurate. Both the writer and Dr. Gott refer to Celiac Sprue as an allergy. And, there are a few other non-relevant statements. And I found it humorous Dr. Gott included his article on IBS to the author. Perhaps as a consolation prize for being selected...
