  1. I got sick from it https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/102693-didnt-see-that-one-coming-rice-dream/
  2. my biopsy was around $1850, and I was completely put under. I would call and question the $10,000 bill
  3. Welcome! I didn't get nose bleeds, but I would end up with these random bruises, so when I got my vit/min levels tested, I expected to be anemic. It turns out I wasn't anemic and instead was Vitamin K deficient. Vit K deficiency can cause nose bleeds. check out this link: Open Original Shared Link
  4. personally for me if I see "may contain wheat" on the package, it goes right back on the shelf
  5. if you look around on this site, you'll see that when some get glutened it will last a day where with others the lingering effects can last weeks, so 3-4 days is definitely in the range of normal.
  6. for the D, what about Culturelle?
  7. i'm so sorry all of this has been happening here are some of my thoughts: 1) Did you already start eating gluten free? Unless you are absolutely positive you do not want the endoscopy with biopsy, you've got to keep eating gluten until all testing is complete! I would really suggest eating gluten again in prep for your GI appointment. 2) With...
  8. I had found that article as well. Here's the thread and discussion regarding it: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/104736-could-your-retainer-be-preventing-healing-yes/
  9. I agree, Nicole. I did some searching, and here was the best explanation I could find: IgA Subclasses IgA1 IgA1 comprises approximately 85% of total IgA concentration in serum. Although IgA1 shows a broad resistance against several proteases, there are some that can affect / splice on the hinge region. IgA1 shows a good immune response to protein...
  10. just copying and pasting what I wrote in your other post this link helped me learn about the different types of blood immunoglobulins when I first started researching: Open Original Shared Link the following tests are not diagnostic of celiac, but instead tell you that your son makes normal levels of IgA and IgE. Here are his results. IgA 5...
  11. this link helped me learn about the different types of blood immunoglobulins when I first started researching: Open Original Shared Link the following tests are not diagnostic of celiac, but instead tell you that your son makes normal levels of IgA and IgE. Here are his results. IgA 58. Range is 11-134 IgA1 53. Range is 7-132 IgA2 6. Range is ...
  12. that would be pretty cool! I think instead of saying "smaller than your phone" it should just be made into a phone app
  13. unfortunately those tests are worthless since you weren't eating gluten, and I'm sorry that your doctor didn't already know that before running them take a look at this link regarding a gluten challenge needed for blood tests and biopsy: Open Original Shared Link what are your symptoms? if you don't need an official diagnosis then skip the gluten...
  14. I can't remember exact wording, and someone please jump in if you do, but it was something to the effect of, "I'm on a medically necessary or doctor directed diet, and I am unable to have gluten because of celiac disease." Dennis said that using those words tends to make others take it seriously rather than thinking you're just a picky eater.
  15. gluten free philly just launched an app, so I'd highly suggest that if you have an Iphone I personally haven't used the app because I have an android phone but his blog is great, so I would hope the app lives up to his high quality.
  16. I hope you're feeling a bit better now! I'll say flat out I don't understand all the ins and outs of corn intolerance, but I take MegaFood vitamins which are soy, dairy and gluten free. Here's a link Open Original Shared Link Is there anything on this label that makes you skeptical? Like I said I don't know much about corn intolerance, but...
  17. Enterolab is what I am leaning towards because of cost, and I really just want to see if I have the gene. I've read through posts on here, and the general consensus seems to be Enterolab is fine for the gene test but questionable on everything else. Knowing that I have the gene is good enough for me. I don't even want to see the complexities of low risk...
  18. I know you are right that I should just save up and whatever happens, happens. Getting the gene test would finally give me an answer to that part of the puzzle. Maybe my Mom still has my piggy bank from when I was six
  19. thanks kareng and IH for the links!. Now I'll be ready for the next time he makes that comment flowerqueen, i'm sorry to hear that your Mom acts similar to mine, but maybe someday they'll get it. it always makes me feel better knowing someone is in the same boat I keep going back and forth about paying for the gene test out of pocket from Enterolab...
  20. Here are my thoughts, so take them for what it's worth I would take a probiotic in the morning on an empty stomach, and in the evening before bed. IrishHeart recommended Custom Probiotics, and they are definitely worth the money. Don't take a probiotic sometimes, take them every day! With your diet, do you eat enough fat? Olive oil and coconut...
  21. hi jon and welcome! before you spend money on your nutritionist appointment I'd suggest visiting this page Open Original Shared Link make sure you see a registered dietician (RD). In addition, at the above link make sure the RD you see has both experience in diabetes and gluten intolerance/celiac disease. the link above will allow you to search...
  22. I read a book called Fiber Menace, which is very controversial, but in my opinion I really think the author has got something. GutSense.org is his website, and there's a lot of information there. He talks about how gluten and casein should be eliminated for everyone. Like I said I realize it's controversial, and all we hear is more fiber, more fiber...
  23. so I'm visiting my parents this weekend, and they've gotten so much better with understanding the gluten-free diet, but my Dad still doesn't fully get it. He made the comment that a few breadcrumbs won't hurt so I know with the new labeling law gluten-free products have to be under 20ppm, but my question is how much gluten is actually in a single...
  24. grrrr when doctors say it's all in your head that's totally inappropriate right before I had my endoscopy the GI I went to made a comment to the tune of "For years doctors told patients it was in their head, but now we're realizing the problems aren't in their heads, it's in their GI tract." I wasn't aware until I started researching about celiac...
