I'm a total snacker and junk-fooder. Easy Cheese (the spray stuff) on Ener-G Wheat-Free Crackers or celery. FYI, the bacon Easy Cheese has gluten. PB on Celery or apples Cream cheese on celery or gluten-free crackers Cool Ranch Doritos Cheetos Reese's PB cups, M&Ms (most of them, not the crispy for sure), Butterfingers, Snickers...

We had a great time last week in Vegas. Didn't get glutened once. My in-laws stayed with our kids. They came over a couple days beforehand to make sure they understood everything. We have a gluten-free house, so it makes it easier. I gave them procedures to follow just in case they wanted to bring something gluten into the house, (designated area,...

ARCHIVED How Can I Help My Husband Understand?
Nantzie replied to hannahsue01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I totally agree with Cody. Your husband sounds exactly like mine did a year ago. (Like an @ss, for the record...) Last October he yelled at me for over an hour telling me I was a hypochondriac, selfish, using my symptoms to get attention, etc., etc., etc., ETC., etc., etc., etc., etc... I just planted my feet and did what I needed to do. By Valentine... -
ARCHIVED Wanting A Flavorful Bread For My Friend
Nantzie replied to STINGER's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Pamela's Wheat Free Bread Mix is the best thing ever. I use it for sandwiches all the time. My husband thought at first that it was regular wheat bread. It even smells like wheat bread when it's baking. We go through at least two loaves a week. Nancy -
I heard that if you use pasteurized eggs you won't get salmonella.

In the October issue of Reader's Digest, on page 143, at the end of an article called "Misdiagnosed" there is a small mention of celiac. It says: "Celiac Disease - In adults it takes an average of 11 years to diagnose celiac disease, a genetic autoimmune disorder in which sufferers can't digest gluten, a protein in wheat, rye and barley. An estimated...

I call it "bathroom issues", but I feel like even that is saying too much. I like Courtney's description of saying it's like having the stomach flu. I think I'm going to start using that. Nancy

ARCHIVED Where To Get Toaster Bags?
Nantzie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to my locally owned kitchen store, where I've gotten them before, and they're all out!!! I checked Bed Bath and Beyond and Linens and Things and they don't have them. Any other ideas for where to get them? We're leaving on vacation Tuesday, and our hotel has a kitchenette with a toaster. I was going to bring toaster bags so I could... -
ARCHIVED I Recommended The Diet To An Online Friend
Nantzie replied to eKatherine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm totally tearing up... I had a lot of pain and mobility issues pre-gluten-free too. I'm beyond thrilled for your friend and I hope he keeps feeling better and better. Nancy -
ARCHIVED How Tall Are You All?
Nantzie replied to Kaycee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm 5'8", which is on the short side for my family. My mom was just under 6', my dad was 6'1.5". My mom's sister is 5'11", and my counsins are 5'11 and 5'10". Basically, I'm pretty short for a tall person. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Spices
Nantzie replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There was a list on this board of "trusted companies" such as Kraft and Con Agra that will disclose any gluten. On that list also was McCormick, so I've been buying mostly McCormick spices, and have even found that their Taco Seasoning packet is gluten-free. I've used it several times with no problems. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With gluten-free Bread Options
Nantzie replied to kimber's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another BIG vote for Pamela's Wheat Free Bread Mix. (The last pkgs I got of them didn't say "Amazing' in the title, but they're the same thing.) It works toasted or untoasted. It doesn't do so well pulling it right out of the refrigerator we discovered. It falls apart. So if you keep it in the frig, let it come to room temp, or toast it before you try... -
ARCHIVED Touching Bread And Then Eating
Nantzie replied to jesscarmel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's exactly how I deal with it. I deal with gluten the same way I deal with raw chicken. I wash my hands immediately after I touch it, and make sure the things that touch the raw chicken are also thoroughly cleaned. Once I got the hang of that, I didn't get glutened very often. -
ARCHIVED Touching Bread And Then Eating
Nantzie replied to jesscarmel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep. Something like that gets me every time. Blech. If there's more pretzels in that bag, you might want to think about tossing them or giving them to someone who is non-gluten-free. Sorry you're feeling sick. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Any "lost"-aholics Out There?

A link to the spoilers please? My husband prides himself on being able to predict stuff on that show. Messing with him would be a lot of fun for me.... Nancy -
ARCHIVED Doctor Today. Maybe Some Answers.
Nantzie replied to -product-'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Rob - First of all, I want to send you some encouragement. This is a very difficult thing to go through, and anyone would feel the same way you do. Unfortunately, not being able to work because of symptoms is very common around here. Not taking into consideration the kidney stones at this point, just discussing the celiac-type symptoms -- Since... -
ARCHIVED In An Odd Mood,no Point To This Most
Nantzie replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
{{{HUGS}}} Lisa! I'm sure it was your uncle sending the rain. What a beautiful story. It's totally expected for you to feel sad today. Like Ursula said, it can take years to grieve, but it gets better every year (except for the years when it gets worse ). My mom died almost 13 years ago and I still get sad about it, but it doesn't hurt. My... -
ARCHIVED Bread Recipee
Nantzie replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A lot of pans are dark grey nowadays (rather than the light gray they were 15 years ago), which holds in more heat. If I'm using a dark pan for something, I bring the temperature down a notch (325 rather than 350 for example) and then bake it longer. It seems to work for me. Also, was your oven rack in the middle? Sometimes if the rack is too low, you... -
Me neither. Is there a linguistic anthropologist in the house? Where the heck did that word come from? In high school we used to call it Rocker Hair. What was wrong with that phrase? Okay, looked it up in American Heritage Dictionary - mul·let (mlt) KEY NOUN: pl. mullet or mul·lets 1. Any of various stout-bodied, edible fishes of t...

This almost made me cry. It's such a good way to put it. So many of us felt like we were weird, and this board gives us a sense of belonging and a sense of home. Hugs to you Steve.... Sniff... Bmz, you found the right place here. This board is a GOLDMINE. Tons of archives, great advice, and people who get what you're going through. When I found... -
Don't worry about it Vincent. It's already coming back. I've seen a few times in the last couple months "fashionable" men's hairstyles that are mullets, but they're trying to say it wasn't a mullet, but some other name for the same haircut. It's a mullet. Own it. Rock it. Work it. Remember, this current fashion sensibility says that trucker hats...

YES! The luxury of strolling and wandering, and then going AAALLLL the way back to that one artist on the far side of the fair just to ponder something... The fact that you have to bring a gluten-free bar to eat, or that you have to go back to the cooler of food in the back of your car to eat lunch, is meaningless compared to the freedom of the rest...

Yikes Ursula! I'd pick a nice cabin by the lake too if that was the religious retreat you had to choose (?) from. That would freak me out too. Nancy

Yea. I think it's natural since it was going on for so long. In one way or another the vast majority of us suffered for years with no explanation. When it goes away, almost as if by magic, it's hard to trust it or accept it. Nancy
