  1. I came across a recipe for gluten-free pate a choux (the type of dough they use to make funnel cakes) and posted it here a few months ago. Still haven't tried it, but the author seemed pretty happy with it. Now that you've posted, it's gotten me thinking about it again. Open Original Shared Link Nancy
  2. Cool Ranch Doritos... Mmm... (not sure about the other flavors...) Cheetoes are too I think, but I'm not sure Butterfinger candy bars Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Mission Tortilla Chips (the bag I have is declared gluten-free right on the bag) and salsa or guacamole. Ener-G Wheat Free Crackers (remind me of Carr's Water Crackers...
  3. I found that if I touched something gluten, and didn't wash my hands before I ate something myself, I got sick. So I just wash my hands before I eat, or while cooking something gluten-free. With a 2yo and a 4yo, who both eat gluten, I'm touching gluten quite often. I never get any symptoms just from it getting on my skin though. Nancy
  4. I posted about this several months ago. I had tried doing a gluten-free version of graham crackers using this recipe from Top Secret Recipes - Open Original Shared Link They came out good, but overly sweet. I wasn't craving sweets at all, so I hadn't tried to tweak the recipe after that. Well, we're going camping tomorrow (SMORES!!!!) and so...
  5. That's what I do too. Eat before, bring something in my purse. That would be awesome if they were able to provide you with a gluten-free meal though. How sweet of your cousin to ask for you. Nancy
  6. Oh thank goodness. You hear so much about dieticians who just aren't up on current information that I never would have thought about the kitchen staff!! You must be so relieved that it wasn't the dietician or the doctors ordering that food to be given to her. Hopefully the dietician will be doing some hard-core training in the kitchen over the...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Rind

Who is Dr. Rind? I'm not sure if the name's not familiar to me, or if it's just slipped my mind...
  8. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}} and thank you everyone for posting your stories. Thank God for this forum, for celiac becoming more known about, and for everyone here who makes this forum such a wonderful, comforting and welcoming place to be. I gave my therapist about 20 pages worth of your stories to read. She said that she had already started talking to people...
  9. You may have read this on one of my posts already, but I'll tell it again because what you said is exactly what I was feeling back in October. My husband was horrible. He spent about two hours one night going off on me; yelling at me, telling me I was a hypochondriac, telling me that I wanted to be sick, that I was just trying to manipulate everyone...
  10. I was getting glutened a LOT when I was trying to use Purell instead of soap and water. It made me wonder if it just moves the gluten around... Nancy
  11. I had to eat small meals too. I pretty much lost my appetite, and eating too much made me nauseous. I just tried to keep it as nutritious as I could. Now, about 7 months after going gluten-free, I'm just STARTING to get my appetite back. My stepmom has hypoglycemia too though, and I know she has to eat every few hours or she gets lightheaded. So it could...
  12. I'm screaming blue FURIOUS for you. I'd get her out of there as soon as possible. And the "dietician" has no business advising anyone what to feed your daughter if she doesn't know anything about celiac disease. GAH!!! You must want to strangle somebody!! I say, threaten to sue them into the ground. Especially the dietician. I don...
  13. Mmmm... Bacon....
  14. I was posting with one of our new members and she had asked me if cc was a problem for everyone. I told her it seems to be, but I wasn't sure. I thought that was a really good question for a new topic! It's interesting, because there seems to be such a specific pattern of illness and other issues that people get when they're glutened. It's different...
  15. Does anyone NOT have a problem with cross contamination? From what I've seen here, most people do. But I was just wondering if it was an issue for everyone. Nancy
  16. My favorite so far is Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread mix. I even eat it plain and untoasted.
  17. Mine was horrible. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Back in October, right after I found out about celiac as even a possibility for me, he called me a hypochondriac and said that I wanted to be sick so I could manipulate people into doing everything for me. Said that I needed a psychiatrist, not a blood test. It was really bad. I almost left him over that...
  18. HEY!!! It's member # 10,000! TWWEEEETTTT!!!! Da-da Da- DAAA!!!!! (Confetti, Streamers, Camera Crew, Cheesy News Anchor...) Sorry. I've been noticing that we were about to hit member # 10,000. It just reminded me of the thing they used to do at stores where they would wait for the 10,000'th (or whatever) shopper and have the local...
  19. I'm kinda in the same dilemma as you are. My genes are the gluten intolerant genes rather than the celiac ones though. I know that there are several people on here who got an official diagnosis based on dietary response alone. I've been considering it just in case I'm ever in the hospital, or for my kids. My daughter is showing some signs, so I'm getting...
  20. I use PINK index cards that I write Gluten Free Only Please with a sharpie, with a smiley face, and directions in regular pen to a gluteny item of the same type if appropriate. I have one on my toaster (with directions to where the old gluten one is). I also put a lot of my condiments in one of the veggie crisper drawers (known as The Rotter in my house...
  21. Oh my gosh yes! Finding out about celiac answered so many questions for me with unexpected weight gain a couple times in my life. About ten years ago when the whole low-fat diet was THE way to lose weight, my stepmom had lost a ton of weight on it. She is such a good cook and she made the BEST low fat food. At the time I was 125 pounds and...
  22. I have heard other people on here talk about being sick for a week or more after being glutened. And if there were several in a short period of time, it would make sense to me that you'd be looking at a longer recovery time. Maybe you could keep some gluten-free only cooking items at your girlfriend's place? Nancy
  23. Nothing to add except HUGS. I agree that they should be open to you expanding her eating options. Hope she starts feeling better soon. Nancy

    ARCHIVED Cannot Get Help

Have you considered having her tested through Enterolab? Enterolab is a highly trusted lab on this board. They have a $99 gluten stool test that might be an option. If you go to www.enterolab.com and email them, they should be able to tell you if that test should work in her circumstances. The woman who answers the emails there, Phyllis, is an RN, and...
  25. No problem. I just remember going through YEARS of thinking I was the only one. Hearing things on talk shows or in magazines like if your husband isn't getting it from you, he's got to be getting it somewhere else used to just kill me. Because I knew with absolute certainty he wasn't getting it anywhere else. So it must be that I was the only woman in...
