ARCHIVED Salem, Ma
GlutenStinks15 replied to GlutenStinks15's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks again, and I will be in touch!! I have to say, I asked the waitress TWICE about the gluten-free bun in Village Tavern bc it was SO good! She said a lot of their gluten-free customers buy the buns - they sell them for $1 each. And Victoria Station - the prime rib all but melted in my mouth - really delicious. If you're ever traveling... -

Hi Gemini, wanted to report back as I am back from my trip. I can happily inform you that I ate safely and did NOT get sick while in Salem!! I ate at the Village Tavern, the Howling Wolf, Finz, Victoria Station, and Nathaniel's. We drove to Woodman's also - amazing food! Each place had PLENTY of knowledge of Celiac and took proper precautions... -

Thanks - I did see that Woodman's uses corn flour - and thankfully my intolerance is such that a little Pepto will handle it. So I think I will try it anyway, but just get an appetizer. Thanks for the recommendations - I really appreciate it. I did see 62 restaurant and I'm DEFINITELY going there!! Going to call tonight to find out what their pasta is... -

Hello Again, My trip is near, and I wanted to check in with you. Woodman's is DEFINITELY on my list, as well as the Howling Wolf Taqueria. I am wondering if you've ever eaten at Village Tavern, Finz, or Victoria Station? I want to make sure I have plenty of options. My hotel room will have a fridge, so I will be able to have a back up plan... -

This is terrific news! I tried the Smart Ones Rice and Beans and it killed me - I tried picking out the corn but I must have missed some. -

ARCHIVED Ronzoni gluten-free Pasta
GlutenStinks15 replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am very happy with the Ronzoni as well. The Barilla is 100% corn and my stomach just can't handle it. My pasta of choice is Bionaturae - but it is double the price of the Ronzoni -
ARCHIVED California Pizza Kitchen

Please don't be discouraged. As you proceed you will see that you really can eat out and feel normal. I was diagnosed two years ago and I went through the grief stages (for lack of a better phrase.) It WILL get easier. I promise! And we are all here to support you. -

Thanks so much for your reply. I did go to findmeglutenfree.com, but I also posted here bc I definitely like to hear what locals have to say. I called the Hawthorne and they informed me that Nathaniel's could definitely take care of me, so I was happy about that. I saw the Howling Wolf on findmeglutenfree.com - I'm glad to have your recommendation... -
ARCHIVED California Pizza Kitchen
GlutenStinks15 replied to elless's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I eat there so often - thankfully I've never had a problem. The BBQ Chicken is my favorite as well. If you sit by the bar area, you can watch them prepare your pizza. When it comes out of the oven and onto your plate it goes DIRECTLY into the manager's hands to be delivered straight to the table. No chance for any CC or mix ups. -
That is terrific news. Thanks for sharing!

Hi All, The last thread in this category for Salem, MA was from 2008. I have visited there three times but all were pre-diagnosis. Any and all advice and recommendations for dining out are welcome. I am staying at the Hawthorne Hotel. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Melatonin?
GlutenStinks15 replied to JodyM75's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know of a disolvable one, but I order mine from puritan.com and the tablets are all (regardless of dose) gluten free. I've also found that site to be less expensive than GNC or other competitors. -
Hello All, I will be traveling to Philadelphia, PA in June for three days. I will be staying in Glouchester, NJ (ten min away from downtown Philly.) Do any of you live there, or have you traveled there? I have the findmeglutenfree app for my phone, but I also like to get recommendations from the 'natives' whenever possible. I did search the group...

ARCHIVED Hoodwinked By Trader Joe's?
GlutenStinks15 replied to C-Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, I love those chips and so far have never had a reaction, but I could be less sensitive. I give Trader Joe's a lot of credit for being way ahead of a lot of other companies. They try pretty hard, and are pretty good about labeling when something is made on shared equipment. As other stated, maybe it was another ingredient? Being Celiac, we ALWAYS... -

Just want to let you all know that I went to the Gluten & Allergen Free Expo in NJ this past weekend and I got to meet Jay Harper (founder of RAL) in person. Such a nice guy! They had all of their product line available for sample as well. If you have a gluten-free show/expo near you, see if they will be there! -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Allergen Free Food Expo
GlutenStinks15 replied to GlutenStinks15's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was really happy with the products from Against the Grain, and have started buying them now. The best part was the sampling - I wasted so much money at the beginning! Happy to know the owners are nice - that helps me - I like to give my money to good people when I can. I'm picky that way! There were also some local businesses that are fairly new - I... -

I'm srry for your loss. My favorite food there was the pizza - Against the Grain makes a really good one and so does Conte's. Both can be found at Shop Rite. But really, almost everything was delicious!
