  1. Which outback did you eat at? I was thinking of trying the one in Merrick, ny
  2. I ate there last night too. I had the chicken parm and they made me gluten-free eggplant rolatini. My husband who does not have celiac couldn't tell the difference. We are actually ordering some trays for the holidays from them. Joann served us last night. She is very nice. She was diagnosed over twenty years ago. Another great experience.
  3. Thanks I'll look into this restaurant.
  4. What town is this restaurant in? I have family in Briarcliff Manor and Ossining. I'm willing to make a trip for good and safe food. I have eaten at Ciao in Eastchester and that was worth the trip. Only 45 minutes away. Thanks for the info. Donna

  8. I actually live in Wantagh. The restaurant is Cafe Baldo. I have eaten there the food is alright. I was just wondering if there was something else. Jillian, I know what restaurant you are talking about. I'm definitely going to look into it. Would you believe I'm considering going up to Westchester for my son's party. Have you tried Four Doors...
  9. My son's First Communion is in April. I need to find a restaurant I can safely eat at. Mama's is too far to drag the whole family to. I love their food. Cafe Baldo I'm not crazy about and its in my town. Are there anyother places in Nassau County? I want to be able to enjoy my son's day. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Donna

  14. My brother and sister-in-law live up in Westchester so that's why we are up there. Besides there are more gluten-free restaurants in Weschester ( 8) than on Long Island (2). I like Mama's but I've gotten sick with their chicken parm twice. Have you tried Four Doors Down in Buchanan? I'm thinking of going there next. Donna
  15. I did not eat any of the pastas since I eat that at home. We ordered the Chicken Malanzana (has eggplant, mozzarella, and prosciutto) and the grilled rib steak. They were excellent. I still reccommend this place. Sorry to hear that your pasta was bad. I'll ask which brand they use before I order next time.
  16. I found this great restaurant on glutenfreerestaurants.com. Ciao's 5-7 John R Albanese Place Eastchester, NY 10709 914-779-4646 I drove 35 miles to this restaurant in Westchester county from Long Island and it was certainly worth the trip. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about celiac and how to prepare safe gluten-free meals. The grill...

    ARCHIVED Save Me!

You can also go to Trader Joe's in Merrick and Oceanside. Fairway in Plainview is the best for gluten-free food shopping. Wholefoods in Manhasset is also good. I would watch out for Cafe Baldo in Wantagh I got sick after eating there. Good Luck
  18. I agree that Trader Joe's lists are not up to date. I purchased items from the list ( didn't confirm the label) and found them not to be gluten-free the hard way. After later inspection I found the veggie chips were made on equipment shared with Wheat products. I learned my lesson. Always check the labels. Donna
  19. I was dx with celiac disease while breast feeding my daughter. My celiac disease was triggered by this pregnancy. A bone density did show that I had osteoporosis. I continued to bf my daughter but did not start actonel until I weaned her at 18 months. I did however increase my calcium and vit d ( I was deficient). I have now been on the actonel for three...
  20. The last two times I have eaten at Mama's in Oakdale I've gotten really sick. I was sick the last time before I could even pull up to my house. I had the Chicken Parm both times. I have eaten dairy without problems, so I can't blame the cheese. I did not call Mama's I don't know if I should. It is a great place for people with Celiac disease. I don...
