  1. So glad she is feeling better! Isn't it a relief to have an answer? I hope she continues to do better and better! I have to admit that I still miss pizza nights too. But, thanks to kinnikinnick ready made pizza crusts.....the kids still get really excited when I declare a "pizza night", and it's almost as easy as ordering in!
  2. Thanks for posting this......I've been wondering about those. I'm really picky about the new stuff I buy for my daughter, since it's all so pricey. I'll have to splurge and get them now, thanks!
  3. Yep, we use it here all the time too. We eat taco salad at least once a week, all the kids love it. It's an easy meal to hide flax seed into as well, kids never know what I have in there!
  4. I think for alot of celiacs, the reactions are worse the longer the body is gluten free. My daughter's first gluten accident after being on the diet for a month or so was not that bad. But this last reaction was vicious, she was vomiting, running a high fever, very irritable, tired, etc. It's a sort of blessing, at least I know when she's ingested gluten...
  5. Oh, that is a big fat YES for us!!!!! Emmie had a gluten accident 3 weeks ago, after being totally accident free for 3+months. Well, gluten had totally transformed my sweet baby girl into a different child. I would not have been surprised if her head had spun around.....she was throwing some hell raising temper tantrums. I had to call my mom to come over...
  6. Welcome! I have to agree with everyone else, don't be so hard on yourself. There was nothing you could have done differently, especially since most people (docs included) don't know a thing about Celiac! Your little girl is still very young, and she'll bounce back very soon and be healthier and stronger than ever. It will take time to get back to 100...
  7. Welcome to the board! I'm glad to hear your little girl is one the mend. Poor baby! This board is such a great source of information, I could not have gotten through the past six months without it. I feel like a pro now.....which seems so weird to say, seeing as how in the beginning, I would come home from the grocery store in tears. It is hard at first...
  8. It really does sound like your baby may have it too. I was having the same dilemma recently about my youngest......whether or not to keep him on gluten until he could be tested, or just put him on the diet. When I brought my concerns to the doctor, he basically told me Ben wasn't sick enough to be tested, and that 3+ stools a day were normal. Ben doesn...
  9. Please, please, please get her tested asap, or just put her on the diet. The sz's and dev. delay you mentioned could most definately be manifestations of celiac disease. Some kids present differently than others, not all kids are typical. Unfortunately, most doctors will not test for it (even with family history) unless your child is wasting away. Hopefully...
  10. So, are the Glutino cereal bars any good???? A local store here recently started carrying alot of Glutino products, I've only tried the shortcake cookies, but those were very good. I wanted to try the breakfast bars, but at $6 a box, I thought I'd ask here first before I bought. I hate spending that kind of money for something no one will eat! Oh...
  11. I think it is so sad when parents of autistic kids won't at least give the diet a chance. I know it's not a cure all, but it has helped so many families. And I don't think they realize how easy it can be once you really get the hang of it. Jnkmnky, it makes me feel so much better to hear that your little boy is doing okay now. I worry about Emmie all...
  12. I don't know about the gluten free status, but I've been wanting to try this too. I've been using turbinado, or raw sugar, instead of the refined white sugar. Now I want to try stevia, after reading some info on it. It seems like a great alternative to sugar. It is pricey, but since you only use a tiny amount to sweeten, it should last a while. I have...
  13. It's fascinating, isn't it???? I read a book called "Unraveling the Mysteries of Autism" by Karen Sourissi (sp?), which details her journey through her son's dx of autism, to her discovery of the gluten-free/CF diet, and his recovery. I wish more people could realize the brain damage that gluten can do. My daughter's brain definately took a hit, not...
  14. Ack! I didn't know Roseart crayons weren't gluten free! That's all we have, and we have a whole box of Roseart markers. Here I was two days ago, tossing out every last bit of gluten in our house after Emmie's reaction freaked me out so much. Lol, but she's been coloring away with gluten. Oh well, live and learn I guess. I'm sorry your little boy is...
  15. Thanks everyone! I feel better now Emmie is on the mend, but the gluten is still rearing it's ugly head! It shocks me how long it takes for a reaction to run it's course. She isn't running a fever anymore, she's just incredibly tired and CRANKY. She has been screaming on and off over every little thing these past few days. I swear, I half expect little...
  16. Oh no! I haven't shopped at that store, but I have bought the gluten free sugar cookies at Delicious N Fit. I didn't know she was struggling too! This can't be, I had planned on ordering a gluten-free birthday cake for my kids, and getting more of her awesome cookies. There's also Family Health Market in Frisco, off Preston Rd. Every time I go in there...
  17. OMG, the migraines. My mother has them, I have them, and I pray my daughter never has them. They are terrible, worse than any pain I've ever had, and I've had 3 kids! I used to get them w/out warning....then they changed after a while. I started getting the "halo", or I would start seeing spots, then the full blown migraine would hit. They were also...
  18. Funny, as I was reading your post early this morning (when I should have been getting ready!) there was a piece on Good Morning America about hair loss. They mentioned malnutrition and anemia. Hopefully that is all that is going on with Ella, and it will start to grow back soon. I can't imagine having to buzz all her hair off! The only upside would be...
  19. That is so sweet! Kids are awesome......it is so amazing how kids really get it . We went to a new church the last few weeks, and before dh or I could get a word in edgewise to Emmie's teacher, Jack pops his head in and says "She can't have ANY gluten, she has celiac disease!". I just wanted to cry, as much as they try to kill each other at times, they...
  20. In our experience, it has taken my daughter longer to potty train. Although, it might be a little different for us, b/c she is also a year behind developmentally. About 3-4 months ago, Emmie surprised us by declaring she was ready to wear panties! I didn't have to do anything at all, she just told us she was ready. I really believe you just have to wait...
  21. I am debating on whether or not to test my other two children soon, or just put them on the diet. They both have questionable symptoms. The problem with this is that my husband is going to start job hunting soon for something different. I am worried that if I end up with all three kids testing positive for celiac, we could be denied coverage through a...
  22. I feel so awful for my baby girl right now.......hubby took her with him to a boy scout meeting last Thurs. night, and he didn't know they had cookies upstairs. He caught her with one in her hand, but apparently she had already eaten one. She started throwing up about two hours later, but she seemed fine the next day. I thought we were over the worst...
  23. I've only shopped at one Asian market, but I won't do it again. I bought some rice flour, b/c it was dirt cheap compared to the specialty store. I assumed (stupid, I know) it was safe, but my I believe my dd had a reaction to it. There wasn't a phone number or anything on the package about how to contact the manufacturer. So, unless I can verify something...
  24. The sad truth is that most of us on here have a similar story to share. There are a few situations where celiac was caught before the child was in a seriously ill state of health, but that is not the norm. Our last ped was an extremely arrogant guy, who wouldn't even run a stool culture when Ben was in hospital, b/c he just "knew" what it was. I like my...
  25. That's how I started out......my dd had been gluten free for a few months, and I figured I'd give the diet a try, and see how I feel. I didn't want to mess with testing, I've had enough of doctors lately. Anyway, it's been about two months now and I can tell a difference. I used to get headaches all the time, but now I hardly get any, and when I do....
