ARCHIVED An Expert's Opinion On Mcdonald's
floridanative replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Didn't anyone see the movie 'Supersize Me'? I can not stand MD food except for a egg mcmuffin without meat and now I can't have that of course. But the movie showed how MD french fries did not get moldy in ten weeks of sitting out on a desk in a glass jar. Reg. fries (just fried potatos) went bad after a few days stored the same way as the MD's fries. I don... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Questions - How Bad Is It?
floridanative replied to roses8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
roses8 - if I were you I'd make sure and tell the doctor that you don't want to be conscious in any way during the procedure. I thought mine understood this before I went to the hospital but the nurses told me I needed to tell him very strongly I wanted to be put to sleep as he (ex-doctor) didn't like to fully sedate people. Well he gave me only conscious... -
ARCHIVED Why Are People So Mean?
floridanative replied to Lollie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lollie - I think your mom and mine are a lot alike. My sister's first child died a week after he was born. He was normal for about 10 hours and then he was found not breathing when the nurse came in to get my sister to nurse him. Anyway, without question this was the hardest thing that our family ever went through. I live in another state so I tried hard... -
ARCHIVED Predominace Of Families With Celiac?
floridanative replied to Chap's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This websites newsletter that came out I think yesterday has a link for the latest info on Celiacs and schizophrenia. Having an aunt with this condition I was shocked amazed reading the latest study. I think if you are on this board you would automatically get this news update from Scott Adams who runs this site. I think the most 'famous' family who has... -
ARCHIVED Why Are People So Mean?
floridanative replied to Lollie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know your mom but in my case my own mom was so concerned about my biopsy results that I wondered why she kept pestering until I got the dx. When I finally called her back to tell her of my positive dx for celiac disease it was interesting to figure out that she thought if I had it she was sure she did too. Do you think your mom doesn't want to acknowledge... -
ARCHIVED Atlanta Ga, Anyone Else?
floridanative replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do you mind elaborating about the dinner regarding how many people were there, do they give everyone separate checks and so forth? I was trying to sign up for the March event but they have the same place listed as you went last night and I can't make it downtown on a weeknight so I hope the website just wasn't updated yet. -
ARCHIVED Non-glutenfree Medicine
floridanative replied to domineske's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I need an rx for folic acid and I can't take OTC right now as the GI said I'm not going to get enough that way due to damaged villi. So I have now been waiting a whole week for my pcp to call in an rx for me. My ex-GI was extremely unhelpful and told me ask my pcp for the rx. Two companies (at least) make a rx folic acid but BC/BS always makes me take a generic... -
ARCHIVED Have Contacted Lots Of Companies For Lists
floridanative replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lynne - thanks so much for all your hard work. I agree that these companies could find out if there is gluten in their products or not. If other companies like Neutrogena, Lumene and Bonnie Bell for goodness sakes can do it, then you bet someone as big as P&G can too! They (P&G) don't seem to care about our business right now but one of two... -
ARCHIVED Omg- I Got A Diagnosis!
floridanative replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Berneses - I'm late seeing this but CONGRATULATIONS! I know how weird it is to find out you have a disease and feel so excited but since it requires no chemo for treatment that's enough to get excited about right there! -
ARCHIVED Atlanta Ga, Anyone Else?
floridanative replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes - that's it! I can not wait to attend their dinner in March. It's at a restaurant somewhere in Duluth which is less than ten miles from my house. -
ARCHIVED Safe?
floridanative replied to gabrielle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vydorscope - go to a dollar store. I got a plastic strainer there for $1. I prefer plastic to our heavy stainless one and sure enough you can't get the gluten pasta residue off the plastic ones. -

ARCHIVED Bounty And Charmin Have Made Me Angry!
floridanative replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got the same idiotic e-mail from P@G in Dec. When I saw the 'doctor needs to write us on their letterhead' part I almost fell out of my chair! I then composed a very blount note back to them indicating that my poor doctor rarely took a lunch break so I would not insult her by asking for a stupid letter to P&G. I let them know that since they didn't... -

After buying some pricey gluten-free pasta sauces at Whole Foods I felt pretty silly when my Univ. of Chicago gluten-free goodie basket arrived and it included Ragu Old World in it. Ragu is great for making your own pizza if you have a crust you like...I don't yet but I'm trying Chebe this weekend. I hated the Gluten Free Bakehouse pizza crusts from WF's... -
ARCHIVED So Confued
floridanative replied to popoki321's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Vydorscope is exactly right and though he's not a doctor he probably knows more than most docotrs about this condition. It sounds like you have found a great informed doctor. You are very lucky for that. Of the 6 blood tests on the Celiac panels done on me, only my tTg level was out of whack. One month it was a 10, two months later is was only a 7. I did... -
ARCHIVED Probitics Question
floridanative replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
johanna - if I understood the docs point about sugar it was that the 'replacement' foods many Celiacs eat (gr bread, cookies, etc.) have more sugar or fructose in them than their gluten couterparts. So my guess is that if one doesn't eat a whole lot of those replacement foods, one may not need a probiotic. I don't see the dietician for three weeks but this... -
ARCHIVED Probitics Question
floridanative replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I started taking Culterelle Sunday. The Celiac expert I saw speak Saturday says Celiacs need probiotics for life due to issues with too much sugar in our diets. I plan to ask the dietician to explain this further. The doc said she likes Culterelle b/c they are easy to travel with (no refridg. needed). I found them for $20 for a 30 day supply at Walgreen... -
I'm right there with you elye....you made me laugh! I did call the gyno this week and they make me call the manuf. of the lubricant they use. I'm thinking I'm the docs first Celiac patient - well that she knows of anyway . The widely used brand of lubricant 'Surgilube" is indeed gluten free. If you want to call yoourself you can find the toll free...

ARCHIVED Lipsticks

I'd like to pose this question about Max Factor and Cover Girl without starting a new thread if possible. Apparently Proctor & Gamble owns both of these cosmetic lines. I e-mailed one of the lines from their website and someone from P&G got back to me. They mentioned Cover Girl, Max Factor and some other line (not Revlon) that I didn't care about... -
Oh my gosh!!! Here I was annoyed that my dentist office told me the only way they could safely clean my teeth now is to use baking soda. I'm sure they would never have thought of the gloves..... And honestly I am taking my own Aqua Fresh toothpaste in and asking them to use that instead of baking soda. Do I have to take my own gloves in too. And if so, what...

ARCHIVED What If You Don't Go Gluten Free
floridanative replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ditto to what everyone else has said and you might want to consider the following information as well if you really want to have a baby. One of the most missed groups of Celiacs are those that have infertility issues due to untreated Celiac. This is fact, not fiction. And since not many fertility 'specailists' have ever heard of Celiac, they don't test their... -
ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
This is the week for letter O and P. Please note again: I do not care who you choose to pester. I'm not starting a new thread for people who don't want to e-mail Oprah. I myself have started focussing on Dateline (Ann Curry, sister had cancer), 20/20 (John Stossil) and Primetime Live (John Kinjonis, not correct sp). The angle I'm playing is that I'm letting... -
ARCHIVED Atlanta Ga, Anyone Else?
floridanative replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
atlchris - google meetup.com/celiac and you should find the group that meets once a month to dine out and share info on how to do so safely. You do not have to attend each outing in order to join and there is no sign up fee. There seems to be a $2 fee that you pay the group's facilitator when you do attend the outing. Since I haven't gone to a dinner yet... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Expert Gi Spoke At Support Group
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh I just remembered something I forgot to say in the post above. Dana Korn is coming out with a new book entitled 'Gluten Free for Dummies' I think either this or next month. Nini please correct me if I got the title wrong. -
ARCHIVED How Long From First Visit To Actual Biopsy?
floridanative replied to flampton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I saw my first GI in Sept. '05 but he made me have the colon test first in Oct. Then he wanted me to have the endoscopy in early Dec. I was in denial that I could have such an odd condition at the time (and I felt good eating gluten every day) so I put the endoscopy off until Jan 11th. I wished now I hadn't waited the extra month but I only have myself to...
