ARCHIVED Mainstream gluten-free Yogurt?
mookie03 replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Jenvan, thats not comforting though! i will not be using stoneyfield- i mean, arent natural flavors the exact thing we are concerned about with yogurt? Im not stupid enough to think that a yogurt w/ cookie crunchies on it is gluten-free! The only thing that i know of that makes yogurt questionable is the natural flavors (at least thats the case for... -
ARCHIVED Balsamic Vinager
mookie03 replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i always order oil and balsamic vinegar- and i always get it on the side. that way, i know that they didnt mess up and give me balsamic vinagrette, which can have gluten. I dont cook much, but is there a vinegar thats not safe? i thought they were all distilled (shows how knowledgable i am about cooking) -
Aw, thats terrible! When i first went gluten free, i had dreams all the time about eating gluten- usually id wake up just before eating something. I also had very powerful gluten-related dreams when i actually did ingest gluten in some way. But i have never had a dream about not being accepted for it- i guess because everyone in my life has been so supportive...

mookie03 replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

I know only plain Dannon is but can you confirm Stoneyfield vanilla yogurt is gluten-free? I almost bought it yesterday but didnt b/c i remembered something about this post that confused me -

ARCHIVED What's Your Comfort Food?
mookie03 replied to mookie03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well i think that is exactly why i wanted to know. I spent most of my life loving food, and regardless how sick it made me, i loved it just the same. Sometimes it amazes me how much damage i was doing to my body by turning to bagel, toast, tums (!), etc. every day when i was sick. I always thought those were "safe" foods b/c i thought they were easy to... -
ARCHIVED Hidden Gluten In Drinks?
mookie03 replied to Billygoat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Their OJ makes me a little sick too, ive never been an OJ drinker b/c of it, and like you i thought it was the acid! But it seems like most of their OJs are gluten-free b/c most dont have natural flavors-- is it the cross-contamination problem? -
ARCHIVED Help! Weight Gain On gluten-free Diet
mookie03 replied to MegGFBoston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Maggie- i would try not to freak out about the weight gain, as it is probably your body absorbing what it was not absorbing prior to going gluten free. It may take your body a few months to level off, at which point it will be much easier to lose the weight you have gained. Right now, your body is looking for extra calories, nutrients, etc to replenish itself... -

ARCHIVED The Most Wonderful Meal....
mookie03 replied to patricia's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I know a lot of people have had mixed reviews of pf changs and their service, but i just wanted to mention that i ordered take-out from there last night and it was absolutely delicious. The one around here is always extremely busy and there is always a long wait so it would make me a little nervous to eat there (i always think my chances of being glutened... -
For our holiday party today, my mom bought the Gluten Free Pantry brownie mix so that i can have dessert. First, let me just say that i am a huge dessert person and havent had brownies since going gluten-free. But these are AMAZING!!! take no time at all to make- she bought the package at Mrs. Greens but i am sure they sell it at whole foods as well. My...

ARCHIVED What's Your Comfort Food?
mookie03 replied to mookie03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
SERIOUSLY??? You've been on the diet since may and have never been glutened? Well, either you are one of those who doesnt experience symptoms or you are just MUCH better than i am at this- and if thats the case, do you want to start cooking for me? Thanks for all the responses, i was actually curious b/c I noticed how much i still rely on bread-like... -
Just curious as to what everyone's food of choice is for when they are accidentally glutened... Before i knew it was gluten, my comfort food was always bread, bagels, crackers, etc., which obviously only made it worse! and of course Tums as well, which also aggravated my symptoms- awesome! Now I usually immediately turn to rice cakes w/ peanut butter, tinkyada...

I love acidophilus- have taken it since i was a kid anytime im on antibiotics. I find that it helps me a lot not only w/ preventing yeast infections but also w/ stomach problems- i always find that antibiotics are tough on my stomach. Glad it helped!

ok, i will try, but i must warn you that i honestly dont know. It is my understanding that Sake does not have barley in it as it seems to be made exclusively from rice. (google Sake and it will likely confirm that for you). However, the other popular Japanese beverage is Schochu- which can be made from barley and often is. I dont really drink Sake so i...

ARCHIVED Was I Glutened And/or Dairy'ed?
mookie03 replied to jnclelland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just to let you know, there are definitely soymilks with gluten and i have been glutened by them- apparently there is sometimes barley in it. Just find out what brand they use- Silk is gluten-free, Westsoy is sometimes not. Feel better! -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Create New Food Intolerances
mookie03 replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with this-- after i am glutened, the following week can be widely unpredictable and i will react to foods that i know i dont have problems with. So dont freak out, wait a wk and reintroduce those foods and see how you feel. I know for a fact that i am not sensitive to any other foods, but everything makes me sick after im glutened, even liquids... -
ARCHIVED Pizza Place On Upper East Side In Nyc?
mookie03 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
haha, aww...thats SO not gluten free! i used to LOVE whole wheat pizza crust though, shame. Guess we'll have to stick w/ Risotteria! we're lucky enough to have 1 place in the city for pizza, right? And yes, at least they are not like Slice and falsely advertising gluten-free pizza! -

ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
mookie03 replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
interestingly enough, i was diagnosed w/ mono when i was a jr in college but never thought i had it... diagnosed by blood test only (after a routine annual physical) and never had a single symptom...so i dont know if it was a false positive or if i had it and was just very lucky. but i had gluten symptoms long before that...since i was born pretty much. ...
