Ugh what jerks to label like that! Â Makes me mad, too! Â When I find hidden gluten my response is to yell profanities... lol
-
I want to say go for maybe something like crock pot or baked stuff. Â Something off the top of my head is a pot roast in the crock pot with potatoes and veggies. Â If you dont have a crock pot you can start it on the stove top and move to a low oven. Â Baked chicken and veggies, all you have to do is buy it and throw it in there. Â If you boil veggies in a pot or do them in a steam basket in a pot, the cleanup can just be a rinse off. Â As someone who has bad days where I can't do much, I highly recommend cooking in batches on the days you do feel good, and freezing it in individual portions. Â

On a very serious note....
Â
It is being predicted,
Â
there may be a chocolate shortage! The Ivory Coast (and other areas) are closing borders. The migrant workers will not be allowed in to help in the harvest of cocoa beans.
Â
So my dear friends, get out of my way cuz I plan on hoarding as much chocolate as possible.
Â
This could just be another way to incite a plague of fear and panic. But I just can't take any chances.
Â
Ha, I saw this and was lamenting to my husband. Â Although, I would not be able to succesfully stockpile chocolate. Â It would be gone quickly, and straight to my butt!

I like to cook things in big batches, as others have suggested. Â Keep the cooking time in mind... so if it is a frozen dish, make it thin and wide for easy reheat. Â I also would grill up a bunch of chicken and put it into baggies of individual servings and freeze. Â Throw on a salad the night before and it is thawed at lunchtime. Â Lunchmeat is also good on salads if you get tired of the turkey sandwich thing.
-
I just want to throw in that I know it is weird, but I like it when the noodles dissolve into a homemade soup. Â My grandma used to make chicken soup with a stuffed chicken (way back in my childhood), and the whole family would get grossed out when I took the stuffing and mashed it up in the broth. Â MMmmmmmmmm

While the apps and guides can be a good tool to help you find a starting point, remember to always read the label yourself as ingredients can change, and no system is perfect enough to catch everything.

No worries on the TMI, we have all heard it all
It is possible that you had some cross-contamination, but unlikely.  It is always a good practice to wash your hands before eating especially if you have been out of the house.  Other gross things could have been on that finger besides glutenÂ
(This is my inner germaphobe speaking, lol).  I try to wash my hands as soon as I get to the house so anything out of the house will be left outside.

I was recently in a training class where the trainers would bring donuts for the class on certain days. Â The main trainer would always bring me something that was gluten-free, she was so sweet and I don't think she knows still how much that meant to me. Â Always lovely to have a good experience stand out.

I understand that predicament. Â My hubby usually is pretty good about stopping me from kissing him or eating something off his plate, etc but we are not all perfect. Â Since I get sick easily, we try to keep to simple kisses, no tonsil hockey, haha. Â But last night be brought me gluten ice cream and I ate it (ugh silly me), so we both messed up and he feels SO BAD. Â I could see it in his face last night. Â Having another person train their mind to look out for you is always better than just one mind keeping track of things, and it seems that it is murphys law that the mess up will happen with both minds at once! Â All you have to do is just learn from the situation, and learn from the slipups. Â

Yikes!!! I hope it doesn't hit you too hard. Every label, every time. The Celiac mantra.
LOL I was saying that exact phrase to my husband, he feels terrible about giving that to me. Â Ah well, You live and learn!

I know this is an old thread, but since it is the first thing that pops up on a google search, I feel obligated to add that this information has absolutely changed. Â My husband brought home a pint of Blue bell dutch chocolate ice cream for me tonight, and as I was taking my first few bites I discovered Flour(wheat) near the end of the ingredients list. Â This is actually the first verifiable screw up I have had since I was diagnosed, and it is a vivid reminder that you always need to read every label, every time you put something in to your mouth. Â My husband feels very bad for buying that, but I told him that it is ultimately my responsibility to police what goes into my mouth. Â He still feels bad, lol. Â I don't have info on other flavors, but watch your ingredients on blue bell ice cream, for sure. (Blue bell is a regional band based in Texas.)
Â

This information is out of date. Â Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate contains Wheat Flour. Â Todays date is 10-10-14

I accidentally had gluten a week before all this hair started fallling out. I also was bloated constipated head aches and moody. Do y ou get any other symptoms ?
As suggested by nowhammies, a doctors visit to check on your thyroid may be in order. Â These are also symptoms of an under-active thyroid, so it would be a good idea to go get that checked out to make sure there isn't more than one thing going on that can be fixed. Â Hopefully it is just from the gluten reaction, but best to be safe and check out with the doctor, too.

... I may ask my daughter to send me some baguettes from Philadelphia... they'll be stale and perfect when they arrive... right???
That may be the perfect situation for that!
I am going to have to check out the GFOAS recipe.

Ha, I thought the same thing Karen did. Â But mine would be pecan pie... mmmmmmm. Â It really is hard to tell what the culprit is in these situations. Â If you really want to be sure, you could make a 100% gluten-free lemon pie after a few weeks has passed, and see what happens when you eat half of itÂ
And of course, this time of year is when things like stomach bugs and such are going around, so this may be one of those times where you just never know.  In the future for pies, as long as it isn't runny, you can cut out a portion for the gluten eaters and put it in another container (or vice versa), and hide your gluten-free portion from their thieving grasp. Â

I used this recipe last year, worked really well. Â Crock pot frees up the oven which is nice. Â Open Original Shared Link

Haha, I also read this and thought, "Well, good to know I was doomed either way!" Â

Ben and Jerrys is okay if there is nothing in the ice cream like baked stuff/cookies/cookie dough, so a readover of the ingredient list will let you know. Â Their policy is to disclose gluten containing ingredients on the label (Open Original Shared Link)Â
Â
I love their caramel core one... I can't buy it, I devour it.
-
Well, I watched it last night, and I think it was hilarious. Â

I use adblock. Â Works great. Â If you use google chrome, look into it, it may be of use.

I thought the old standby candy corn was safe... :-( I haven't bought any in years but sure wanted to.
There are a lot of candy corn brands that are NOT safe. Â They seem to change things up from year to year, but last year I know the jelly belly ones were gluten-free and most common brands were not.

Turns out she had no idea that regular flour was made from wheat..
This happens way too often, LOL

I have been on carafate before as well... multiple times, that was before I realized I can stop the acute attacks (usually when someone dies or some real bad stress happens) by taking two nexium a day for a week or so. Â The little balls in Nexium are the functional part, and you can actually get packets of just the innards of the capsule if it makes it easier for you. Â The pharmacy may have to order them, but they do exist and work great for people with feeding tubes and those who can't take capsules, which is very nice considering most extended release capsules cannot be breached and maintain the dosage.Â

I agree with getting a frozen loaf from the back. Â Unless you have lots of gluten-free eaters to gobble it up quickly. Â I may need to make a trip to my local Aldi soon to check out what is back in stock.

You could try going on something slightly different and OTC like Zantac or Pepcid. Â Unfortunately, some people including myself are just prone to having GERD, and will be stuck on something strong forever. Â My GERD issues tend to fluctuate and flare up periodically, sometimes I have to take two Nexium 40mg per day for a short period to get it under control. Â You may be able to find a happy medium somewhere, it will just take more experimentation.
Labeled Gluten Free But Contains Sprouted Barely

They definitely are not allowed to label their product as gluten-free. Â Remember that the FDA rule is a reactive rule, not a proactive rule. Â That means they will react to products that are mislabeled after they come out, they do not approve everything before hand. Â You can submit a claim to the FDA about it if you want. Â It seems a lot of labeling messups I have seen lately have to do with barley and small companies that just slap gluten-free on the label along with other dubious health claims. Â
