  1. Good thing about having a walmart is if it is a walmart with groceries you should be able to find enough to feed yourself half decently. Much safer than a fast food place with no gluten-free menu. If it is not a super walmart and just a regular, you still should be able to find enough snacky type items to fill your belly. Or of course, tote your own. ...
  2. Intermittent leave with FMLA is the way to go. Contact your HR dept ASAP and ask them for the forms you need and if you are FMLA eligible. They won't pay you for the days off, but it will protect your job so when you get better it is still there.
  3. Oh, and I tried to get myself a dinner out on Thursday. There is a gluten-free bakery near my work and I asked them where good lunch places were around there. They said the sub shop across the street can do stuff Celiac safe. I went there after work before sitting in two hours of traffic so I wouldn't starve. Dunno who the heck served them but I must...
  4. That has me cracking up!!!!!!! I used to pick up frozen veggies at sams club but over the last year or so, I think all of them now are no bueno. I always go read the back and then loudly scoff and throw it back on the shelf, LOL. My weirdest place I have seen gluten is in the chocolate ice cream at a place called Bahama Bucks. They...
  5. Unfortunately Celiac damage needs a microscope to be seen in most cases, so time to hurry up and wait!
  6. WHO SAID BACON?!!!! I Could tell Karen, it made me actually log on here... haha!! I want bacon now!!! Been very busy with work, juggling health conditions, nightmare commute... but 2 out of 7 weeks knocked out, I can make it!!! Very tiring, but after all that is done I will be working from home so I shall trudge through. This weekend we are going to...
  7. As someone who loves garlic and loves enchiladas... what do you put in there? Our steak turned out good, always love passing off the cooking duties off to the hubs. Then were were going to watch TV (Kari, Tory, and Grant leaving Mythbusters, whaaaaaaat?!?!?!??!) But I fell asleep from the full tummy so he DID THE DISHES, took out the trash, and put new...
  8. Oh man, I love grumpy cat. If I had a professional ninja to hire, I would send him to catnap her!!!! Today we were out and about to pick up a few things so we stopped at in n out for lunch, and I brought my own bun. Yummmmmm! For dinner I am about to make grilled chicken and some veggies. Tomorrow for lunch we are going to grill out steaks, and do...
  9. Bobs red mill has gluten-free corn meal and gluten-free corn flour (fine ground). I use those. I know there are others out there, but due to possible CC, I would definitely pick one up that is labeled gluten-free and tested by the company.
  10. My diagnosis was pretty much by accident. They thought I had ulcers and did an endoscopy. Once they got everything figured out and I went on a gluten-free diet, many other things went away that I didn't realize were from the Celiac, including anemia and peripheral neruopathy. There actually are a lot of people like me who do not have the "classic" diarrhea...
  11. It sucks that the ones who need the most help get bungled the most. Just a useful FYI, if you can deal with doing it, I am also in between synthroid dose ranges. Too low with 88 mcg and too high with 100 mcg. So my doctor has me taking them both, alternating days. I use a 7 day pillbox and I have one cap with "first" written on it, so I know which to...
  12. Welcome to the forum, Amich. I appreciate your input as a pharmacy tech, but unfortunately this: "But honestly, if you are going to take a one time dose of a medication, you probably will be okay if it has gluten in it" is not totally correct. For someone with Celiac disease taking a medication that is absorbed in the GI tract (a pill), if that medication...
  13. I have gone through the same thing with my husband. I finally realized that all the stuff I read is going to my eyes only, and about 8 months after diagnosis I finally was like oh yeah, I need to teach him! One day he brought home banana pudding ice cream that has cookies in it.... used to be my favorite. I told him he better eat the whole thing before...
  14. Welcome to the forum, mitchgam! ----I first feel the need to point out to any future readers that this is pertaining to a wheat allergy, not celiac disease.--- With celiac disease, you cannot eat any kind of wheat, no matter what type. I moved your post from the dermatitis herpiteformis section since this is not DH and I don't want people giving...
  15. Karen and SMRI said it before I could! If you have a ton of trouble, broth is very easy to make, and you can freeze it in ice cube trays and pop out just what you need. Broth is technically just chicken + water. Add veggies and such and it becomes a stock. The lines are blurred sometimes, though, but with a quick google search you can easily find one...
  16. Today we went to a pizza place that is a reasonable drive away and it was really really good. Then I came home and grilled up a bunch of chicken to freeze for work lunches for this week. Will make french toast for dinner later. Of course I have some leftover pizza in the fridge that seems to be calling my name.... may have to eat it as a bedtime snack...
  17. I would definitely check with the doctor if you suspect pancreatitis, that can get pretty serious. After I had my gallbladder out this spring, it took me weeks to be able to move around well, and about two months to feel near normal. My gallbladder was very sickly and the surgeon told me he had to basically scrape it off my liver because it wouldn't come...
  18. Generally, people who have had bad damage from untreated Celiac do not absorb what they need from their food, and that can lead to low weight. Once you start healing and properly absorbing things, if you had that going on, you definitely can gain weight. If it continues or bothers you too much, just try to focus on overall healthy eating as you continue...
  19. That is a good suggestion that many don't think about. You can also send them a link to the new FDA standards. You can also report them to the FDA if you feel they are blatantly ignoring what needs to be done, but the product needs to manufactured after this week.
  20. That may burn out the motor if you give it too much of a workload. All of the kitchenaid mixers are rated for how many cups of flour they can deal with at a time for thick stuff like bread making. I am not sure which one you were using that only allowed for a "few cups" but as you get the better models the capacity increases, the cheapest/less awesome...
  21. Sounds shady to me. Companies like that are the ones that seem to break the rules more often... I would go with something that is a safer bet.
  22. Please note that not all lentils are contaminated in processing, and when not adulterated, lentils are a gluten-free food. As in anything, shared equipment can lead to contamination, whether it is frozen veggies, baked goods, anything really, and you can find plenty of sources that are safe. Disclosure on the bag that they are processed on shared equipment...
  23. Welcome to the forum! It definitely sounds like your system needs a resting period, especially after the illness you had two weeks ago. Karen is spot on with her recommendations, a re-evaluation of what is going down the hatch is in order. Limiting eating out will especially help to limit exposure. It may also be a good idea to go ahead with the scopes...
  24. Ribs sound good, strawberry +alcohol sounds good... Im hungry now!!!!!! Today, I will make nachos for lunch, for dinner will either be burgers and veggies or if my husband wants to go out to eat we will, it is hard to plan for weekends so I just keep things around I can toss together. Sunday I am going to make a ton of grilled chicken to freeze for work...
  25. I and many others on the board here understand the challenge of having normalcy taken away from you, whether it is from a disease or life circumstances. I know that what many people share here is only the tip of what has actually gone on/is going on in their lives. It really can be difficult to cope with that, but there is a point at which you just have...
