  1. While the apps and guides can be a good tool to help you find a starting point, remember to always read the label yourself as ingredients can change, and no system is perfect enough to catch everything.
  2. No worries on the TMI, we have all heard it all It is possible that you had some cross-contamination, but unlikely. It is always a good practice to wash your hands before eating especially if you have been out of the house. Other gross things could have been on that finger besides gluten (This is my inner germaphobe speaking, lol). I try to wash my...
  3. Come to texas and I will feed you! LOL... for something I made on a whim, turned out real good. Hubs thinks its hilarious when I eat gravy by itself, but I very rarely make it.
  4. Tonight I was inspired by something I picked up at the grocery store meat counter... going to make steak fingers (fried strips of tenderized breaded cube steak for those unfamiliar) with some mini potatoes and something like peas on the side. Gonna make some white gravy, too, to dip them in or it just wouldn't be right. Yummm

I was recently in a training class where the trainers would bring donuts for the class on certain days. The main trainer would always bring me something that was gluten-free, she was so sweet and I don't think she knows still how much that meant to me. Always lovely to have a good experience stand out.
  6. I understand that predicament. My hubby usually is pretty good about stopping me from kissing him or eating something off his plate, etc but we are not all perfect. Since I get sick easily, we try to keep to simple kisses, no tonsil hockey, haha. But last night be brought me gluten ice cream and I ate it (ugh silly me), so we both messed up and he feels...
  7. LOL I was saying that exact phrase to my husband, he feels terrible about giving that to me. Ah well, You live and learn!
  8. I know this is an old thread, but since it is the first thing that pops up on a google search, I feel obligated to add that this information has absolutely changed. My husband brought home a pint of Blue bell dutch chocolate ice cream for me tonight, and as I was taking my first few bites I discovered Flour(wheat) near the end of the ingredients list. This...
  9. As suggested by nowhammies, a doctors visit to check on your thyroid may be in order. These are also symptoms of an under-active thyroid, so it would be a good idea to go get that checked out to make sure there isn't more than one thing going on that can be fixed. Hopefully it is just from the gluten reaction, but best to be safe and check out with the...
  10. That may be the perfect situation for that! I am going to have to check out the GFOAS recipe.
  11. Ha, I thought the same thing Karen did. But mine would be pecan pie... mmmmmmm. It really is hard to tell what the culprit is in these situations. If you really want to be sure, you could make a 100% gluten-free lemon pie after a few weeks has passed, and see what happens when you eat half of it And of course, this time of year is when things like stomach...
  12. I used this recipe last year, worked really well. Crock pot frees up the oven which is nice. Open Original Shared Link
  13. Haha, I also read this and thought, "Well, good to know I was doomed either way!"
  14. Ben and Jerrys is okay if there is nothing in the ice cream like baked stuff/cookies/cookie dough, so a readover of the ingredient list will let you know. Their policy is to disclose gluten containing ingredients on the label (Open Original Shared Link) I love their caramel core one... I can't buy it, I devour it.
  15. Well, I watched it last night, and I think it was hilarious.
  16. I use adblock. Works great. If you use google chrome, look into it, it may be of use.
  17. There are a lot of candy corn brands that are NOT safe. They seem to change things up from year to year, but last year I know the jelly belly ones were gluten-free and most common brands were not.
  18. This happens way too often, LOL
  19. I have been on carafate before as well... multiple times, that was before I realized I can stop the acute attacks (usually when someone dies or some real bad stress happens) by taking two nexium a day for a week or so. The little balls in Nexium are the functional part, and you can actually get packets of just the innards of the capsule if it makes it easier...
  20. I agree with getting a frozen loaf from the back. Unless you have lots of gluten-free eaters to gobble it up quickly. I may need to make a trip to my local Aldi soon to check out what is back in stock.
  21. You could try going on something slightly different and OTC like Zantac or Pepcid. Unfortunately, some people including myself are just prone to having GERD, and will be stuck on something strong forever. My GERD issues tend to fluctuate and flare up periodically, sometimes I have to take two Nexium 40mg per day for a short period to get it under control...
  22. I saw these at sams club.... 2 pack for... 8 dollars I think. Gonna have to go pick some up!
  23. I have a friend who has difficulty sticking to things and being motivated, so she bought a fitbit to help with her weightloss goals and it sits on her dresser. I would say that one of those may be worth it if you are already into activity, but if you tend to slack off on the exercise routine, it may just be an expensive paperweight.
  24. Just a note to all reading this thread, it spans back to 2005, so you may want to start a new discussion if you need answers.
  25. Amen to that!
