Fructose is fructose. It is *all* processed in the liver and it won't raise your blood sugar, that's why diabetics thought it was so great. But it has a host of other problem. It sounds like a bit of marketing hype that their fructose is somehow superior to other fructose. Agave also contains glucose, so that portion will raise blood sugar. Open Original...

ARCHIVED Salary Negotiations
Nancym replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think you need to. You wouldn't want to take a job and work it knowing you were making vastly less than other people. If it means you don't get the job, then so be it, but that'd be better than getting locked in for less than you should be paid. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results, Autoimmune Illness Questions
Nancym replied to meg2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
More doctors are starting to realize that a dietary trial is the best way to detect gluten intolerance. Have you tried it? -
I've heard it is much higher fructose than even high fructose corn syrup. That is something that is being linked with a lot of problems like liver disease, insulin resistance and other stuff. Frankly, I think some the non-caloric sweeteners are healthier.

ARCHIVED Almost 4 Months Gluten Free But Mucous Stools Why?
Nancym replied to A&Z'S MOM's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have other foods than just gluten and dairy that bug my gut. Nuts and chocolate are biggies. -
ARCHIVED Chronic C Sufferers: Have You Tried Tactical Fibering?
Nancym replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know you're asking about fiber but I have found dairy products give me horrible C. It's funny because gluten gave me D but the dairy I was eating over rode that and I often ended up with C or C sometimes and D others. -

America's Test Kitchen did an episode on slow cooking. Warning, the registration process is annoying... I put in a fake address so they don't mail me crap. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED "slight Case Of Celiac" Update
Nancym replied to ohsotired's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Perhaps you eat a diet high in folic acid? I think that's the only way it can go up. I wouldn't worry about it though, it isn't something your body can store and can be toxic. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Now Getting Diarhea
Nancym replied to Froger850's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a bunch of additional food intolerances crop up after going gluten-free. or at least, that's when I detected them. The way I figured it out was to find a very limited diet I was ok on (meat and veggies) then slowly test things about 4 days per test. So far I've figured out that seeds and really bad, nuts are pretty bad, chocolate is very bad. Dairy... -
ARCHIVED How Did You Feel After Diagnosis?
Nancym replied to Kitt1027's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't focus on what I couldn't have but focused on what I can have! I delved into new ways of cooking. I said to myself "poison" every time I saw something I couldn't have, like a fresh bagel. The reprogramming worked well. In fact, I have a very limited diet. I don't eat any grains or dairy products and I'm quite content with what I can eat because... -
ARCHIVED 1200 Calorie Nutritious Diet
Nancym replied to MinnieM's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I find that as long as I eat lots of protein, my appetite stays pretty small. I don't count calories but I do stay fairly low carb. I eat all non-starchy veggies, low sugar fruits (berries), and make sure each meal includes plenty of protein. I don't worry about fat at all, finds it helps keep me full longer. -

I didn't like the Singapore noodles they were very bland tasting, disappointing! Everything else I have liked though.

ARCHIVED Celiac - The Autoimmune Connection
Nancym replied to veggienft's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
TNF suppressors are not the cure for celiac disease. They're awful. You can die from a simple infection if you're on a TNF blocker that wouldn't even phase you if you weren't. They're a drug of last resort for people suffering from terrible pain from RA and AS because the raise your risk of death in a lot of ways. I think of pharmaceuticals as poison... -
ARCHIVED Undigested Rice, Is This Normal?
Nancym replied to Greeneyes4950's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Nope, don't think that's normal. I never have rice come through undigested. -

I make lemon curd all the time with nothing but lemon, eggs and sugar (substitute, I don't use sugar). Comes out great! I'd probably use coconut oil if I wanted it stiffer.

I remember hearing Randy Pausch explain that pancreatic cancer can irritate (or affect) the gallbladder and cause digestion problems, like floating stools, but not everyone gets that symptom. If I had pancreatic cancer in my family, I'd be severely limiting my consumption of sugars and starchy carbohydrates (that get turned into sugar once digested)....

Yes, isn't US health care wonderful? You should be eligible for COBRA for 1.5-3 years, why not sign up for that? -
ARCHIVED Distended Belly
Nancym replied to jcnfc's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mine went down very gradually, it took months, maybe even a year really. I can't remember. I had to give up dairy too though because it was also contributing to the problem. -
ARCHIVED Should I Do A Self-diagnosis Experiment?
Nancym replied to fnord's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lots of people used dietary trials to figure out they were gluten intolerant. I think it is perfectly valid. Gluten free might just help your depression too! Oh yes, good news for you, there is gluten free beer! And I'm sure there are people out there home brewing gluten free beer. Just google for it! -
I'd venture a guess you need a higher dose of thyroid hormones. I get this way too if my TSH gets too high (like over 2-ish). Oh yeah, the sleep apnea thing. Forgot about that one. That's another one that'll make you drowsy during the day.

ARCHIVED I Cant Take It Anymore Someone Help
Nancym replied to Will The Thrill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Will, sorry you're having trouble with this. I'll tell you one thing that helped me out was to look at gluten containing foods and say to myself "poison". It really worked! I can be around those foods now and I don't want them at all. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results And Help-new To All Of This
Nancym replied to Mica's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you've caught it before you started to have TtG reactions, which is good! And you're not sensitive to casein which is good too. Is the diet helping your symptoms? Sounds like it is. The Enterolab testing is just to strengthen our resolve, but dietary response is still the best test, IMHO.
