ARCHIVED How Much Of B12 And Magnesium?
Nancym replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is hard to OD on magnesium since your body will do rude things to get rid of it. Remember "Phillips Milk of Magnesia"? Guess what it does? It gives you a big dose of magnesium. You might take 150-300mg of magnesium and see how your body reacts. -
Your doctor is an idiot. Try to find one that isn't so stupid. Blood tests are not always positive when you have celiac disease. You aren't born with it. Sheesh, tell your doctor that he has to read something other than Golfing Digest to stay current with his field.

Sure do remember you! Glad you're sticking to the diet, I remember you were Mr. Denial for quite awhile. Hey, that rhymes! Yeah, the green is something else, isn't it?

ARCHIVED Basic Question Regarding Evidence Of Benefit Of Gluten-free Diet
Nancym replied to benjamin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I suspect that those who are called "asymptomatic" are probably the most reluctant to rigidly adhere to a gluten free diet. If you're in pain and your body calls you out every time you goof, you're going to be a lot more careful than if your body reacts in an under-the-radar sort of way. So, how many of those people caught in a wide screening are actually... -
ARCHIVED Doc Said I Should Find Gluten Free Sugar....?
Nancym replied to MELINE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LOL! Oh my... you'd probably have to search far and wide to find gluten sugar. AFAIK the only "sugar" containing gluten would be derived from Wheat, barley, rye, etc. And they'd be very hard to find in the supermarket. Sugar in the US primarily comes from sugar beets or sugar cane. However, you do have to read labels carefully and avoid stuff with malt... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing Celiac W/stool & Saliva Testing
Nancym replied to Lisa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Remember there's a difference between unproven and untrue. Unproven just means it isn't widely accepted by current standards, untrue means it doesn't work or the results are false. In the case of Enterolab, I'd say their testing is unproven but likely to be true in testing gluten sensitivity. At least for me and many, many others. I wish Dr. Fine would... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I didn't feel dizzy but I did get heartburn. I recommend drinking down LOTS of water after you take the pills and whatever you do, don't lay down immediately afterwards. Sit or stand up for 30 minutes otherwise you will have terrible heartburn. At least, that was my reaction. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
After weeks of doing really well and probably 5 days from completing my course of Humaworm, I've had a major relapse. It has to be something I've eaten, I'm sure. I started getting adventurous in my eating again and reintroduced things I had taken out of my diet. Well, hopefully this goes away quickly! -
ARCHIVED How To Turn My Teaching Into A Book
Nancym replied to chefdpm's topic in Publications & Publicity
Teaching huh? I live in a pretty big city, San Diego. We have this one culinary store called "Good News!" that has cooking classes all the time. They get some pretty well-known chefs involved in teaching them. Might be something to look into. -

I had to contact them and ask about my order. They got on the ball and sent it immediately after I sent the email. Sounds like they have some issues with their order processing. :\ -
Your story is wonderful! I'd love to go to Thailand. I have Thai cookbooks and love the food. The people seem so friendly too. My sister is going to China. I wish I could go there but I don't think it would be a good spot for a celiac. Now, I just need to get over to Thailand!

ARCHIVED Being Diagnosed Questions: Thanks In Advance
Nancym replied to kystef's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most people make a lot of mistakes when going gluten free, so it kind of depends on how strict and careful you are, and then of course it also depends on how fast your individual body responds. I was pretty well convinced in 2 days because my constant diarrhea and cramping eased up. Only time it returns is when I eat gluten. Other things took a lot longer... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Gotten A Negative Result From Enterolab?
Nancym replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you put enterolab negative in the search box at the top of the screen you'll get a lot of hits from this site. -
ARCHIVED My Mom Gave Me A Jar Of Peanut Satay Sauce
Nancym replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
In Thailand Satay sauce is served on skewers of meat. Peanut sauce, or satay sauce, is excellent on meat, eggs, I suppose noodles too. I've even had salad dressings made from it. But I must say, I don't like that Thai Kitchen version. Tastes rather odd to me. I make my own from scratch. -

Are you sure it wasn't just an undigested pumpkin seed? Those things go through me whole if I don't chew them extra thoroughly. -

Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Be sure to post your results. I want to know I'm not crazy. I've been like 2-3 weeks without diarrhea... I swear I haven't had such a long period of normalcy since... well, measure it in years and perhaps decades. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Only thing for me was the pills cause heartburn. I can't take them right before bed because I seem to be needing to be upright. And I have to drink lots of water, that seems to help. -

Sounds like you have an amazing opportunity created by what most people would regard as a disability. But you might not have the skills to properly market yourself. I'd encourage you to look into use the resources of SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives). They're a non-profit group that helps people get their businesses going. These are folks who... -
There are at least 2 celiac groups in San Diego. Put "celiac san diego" into google search. There's a great resource too here Open Original Shared Link. There's even a group that goes out to eat gluten-free every month and they get special treatment at the restaurants they visit. Open Original Shared Link I keep meaning to go to one of these. It lists...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I didn't pass anything, that I could tell. I truly think it was a SIBO. I've had it before and antibiotics cleared it up. -
I don't think I had parasites but I think it might have cured my SIBO (Small bowel intestinal overgrowth). I have had a very, very restricted diet. Eliminated nuts, dairy, chocolate, soy, all grains and I was STILL suffering from bouts of diarrhea. It seemed like more and more things were setting me off all the time. Dairy gave me sinus problems and muscle...

ARCHIVED Inexperienced Newbie Got Glutened @ Red Lobster
Nancym replied to Sissy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I probably would suspect the salad. There's a lot of chances for crouton crumbs to fall into your salad, or the dressing, etc.
