Doctors are confused too so you're not alone. So doctors are arguing over what constitutes celiac disease too. The current narrow definition is villious atrophy. Ok, but what about the skin disorder DH? It isn't celiac disease but it is caused by eating gluten in gluten sensitive people. Then they're beginning to find a whole host of other areas...

I'd recommend reading Open Original Shared Link. I think it's probably just as valid for someone with hyperinsulinism because that is really just a step along the path to diabetes. Might as well catch it before it fully blooms. Also a really good educational site is: Open Original Shared Link If you want to learn why diabetes and hyperinsulinism...

Why no agave syrup, GFPaperdoll? I know why I don't use it, but curious why you avoid it. -

To be frank, I'm guessing it was probably the way you went about it rather than the actual fact you did it that she was reacting too. Maybe a little more sensitive approach would keep her from getting defensive about it. It's like, when you apply strong motion in one direction, the other person naturally responds with strong motion in the opposite direction... -

It could also be a stomach virus. It sounds identical to what I had. But they usually last about 2-3 days. Headache, vomiting, diarrhea, feeling horrid. YUCK! -

Pardon me if I bristle a bit a bit at that comment. I haven't ever had anyone complain my food is unappetizing. I know I often lick my plate when no one is looking, but then again, I'm a pretty good cook. Lamb stew, roasted duck, Pad Thai (made with cauliflower rice), green veggies seasoned with various things and recently I made Goose Confit, which I... -

I see no reason not to have the blood work done, just remember that 30% of celiac blood testing is negative unless the villi is completely destroyed. If you get an ignorant doctor they might try to convince you that, based on negative blood work, that you don't have celiac disease. A biopsy should be the final word on that. -

Please remember that if your villi are not totally destroyed you have a rather large chance of the blood work being negative. -

Nancym replied to cmbajb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah, I think you'll find most of us are skeptics of the IBS label. Dr. Lewey does a lot of work on IBS patients and finds they're usually reacting to foods. His web site is at Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Do I Have A Celiac Sensitivity?
Nancym replied to sweeticeblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meat is the main source of b12 in the diet. Why did you think cutting out bread would hamper that? Maybe it is an additive to bread, but it doesn't come in bread naturally. -
ARCHIVED Very Low Positive For Enterolab?
Nancym replied to ar8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have digestive issues too when I eat dairy or gluten. I'm finding the best diet for my gut is one where I eat pretty much nothing but meat and veggies, avoiding all grains. Sometimes I can't handle nuts either, sometimes I can. Fruits are ok too. -

Why not try the diet yourself and see? I always think that a positive response to a diet should be the ultimate diagnostic tool. -
ARCHIVED Self-diagnosis
Nancym replied to welshy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here's how I look at it. There's the trade-off of your long-term health versus your habits and convenience. Eventually you could be looking at diabetes, lymphoma, colon cancer, liver failure, memory and brain issues and many autoimmune diseases. Basically an unhappy, severely compromised physical state for the rest of your life. Thinking long term,... -
Some of the stuff sounds like hyperthyroid like the sleeplessness, itchy skin, racing heart, anxiety and palpitations. Have they check your thyroid? I had Graves disease and had all those symptoms. The stabbing pains, I'm thinking B vitamins might be low due to your celiacs. Find a good B supplement and then add a B12 supplement to that (sublingual)....

ARCHIVED Ab Still Destended After 8 Months Gluten Free
Nancym replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was relapsing into terrible diarrhea again. For about 4-6 weeks, just horrible. I know it wasn't gluten. Anyway, I stumbled onto Humaworm mentioned somewhere and thought... ah heck, I know this isn't going to work but what the hell. Well, I've been on it about 2 weeks now and things are calming down. I don't know what was going on in my gut, I suspect... -
No, it is casein, not gluten. Two different things. Yes. You can get plenty of calcium in your diet by eating things like broth made from cooking chicken bones for a long time, or veggies like broccoli. Remember that dairy is kind of new to human kind, humans didn't start dairying until at most 10,000 years ago, in some places in the world they...

I'd be tempted to lodge a complaint against him with whatever organization he works for or that licenses him. Maybe try sending him a package of materials on celiac disease that will get him up to date.

Gluten DOES pass through breast milk, we saw a study here awhile back that proved it. Try going gluten free and see if that helps. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food, Need Help Now!
Nancym replied to snomnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I feed my cat meat. Can't see the reasoning behind putting vegetables or grains in cat food, they're carnivores for Pete's sake! I cut up chicken thighs for him, add fish oil, taurine (an essential amino acid), sometimes a bit of vit. e and a bit of calcium (bone meal) from time to time. I also feed him tuna occasionally. There's a good all-meat cat... -
Well chest pain and nausea sound like a heart attack. You'd better see your doctor. Maybe it is just anxiety or low blood sugar or something but I'd get that checked out.

The way my Mom dealt with this when we were little was to send us a bagged lunch. I'm sure that option still exists doesn't it? -

You are a person after my own heart! *high five* I realized a few years back, after one of my kitties got heart disease and kidney disease, that feeding it grains was just stupid! I switched them to an all meat diet, supplemented with certain vitamins and taurine. I think I saved my Siamese from getting diabetes, he was probably on the way to that.... -
ARCHIVED How Long Do I Continue This Diet?
Nancym replied to DianeByrd's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not a parent st stay away from tho take my advice for what it is worth in your situation. I'd simplify if I were you. I'd stop trying to eat like I did before by substituting this for that. It never really works, IMHO. I'd just revamp everything and start eating whole foods, nothing processed. I personally eat meat and veggies, eggs, coconut milk... -
Best protein sources are meats, eggs, animal products like that. You can get fairly cheap cuts of meat and roast them a long time at a low temperature and they make the best roasts. Here's a recipe I've tried that is marvelous: Open Original Shared Link If you stick to meat, veggies, fruit avoid all the gluten-free replacement foods, you can eat fairly...
